it makes me f&cking mad when I pay someone 2 quid or 2.50 for postage and they send the record second class, in a mailer with no cardboard, or when I send someone 6 quid for special delivery and they send it recorded for 1.60. Sorry just had to get that out of my system.

You need to get out more, there's a whole lot more important things in life than defending dead journalists from people who simply don't like their writing. At the risk of upsetting Mel Brat, whatever Dave Godin says about anything is of no relevance as far as I'm concerned. I didn't get and I don't like his style of writing. And that chord change you mention is carried by the backing singers, not Bessie Banks, no?

Thanks Sebastian, it came off a compilation called "Found in the basement" which features mainly obscure US recordings circa 1958-65 - I've got about 6 volumes I think. Anyway I know what to look for now, many thanks.
