  1. Just bumping this cos I could do with some money!
  2. Have updated this with all sold items marked as such
  3. Same here Joan, I've had 5 or 6 of these, one of those records I can't resist buying - then end up selling it at a loss
  4. Looking at the shelves I;d say there are about 200 left, might be worth asking
  5. No I wasn't suggesting we actually do it this minute, just that we easily COULD do it if needed.
  6. If 10 of us can dip into our own pockets to buy Virgil Blanding an overpriced copy of his own record, I'd have thought 30 or 40 people could do the same for one of our mates...
  7. I'd love to know who you're talking about, someone pm me , I won't say a word honest
  8. What about lemon juice? Or lemon juice mixed with vinegar?
  9. Just wondered if anyone had tried it seeing as it appears that you can use vinegar to clean absolutely everything else!
  10. Isn't just the same as alternative versions of Motown songs by different artists though?
  11. Thats what I was saying, I think they made a pretty good attempt at a 60's sounding production. Don't know anything about the artist but his myspace page describes him as a 'soul singer'. I was just intrigued because it was on a 3 inch vinyl single!
  12. I'd just like to say something about John, this is not public knowledge. About 18 months ago, when we were having a really tough time with one thing or another, my car went kaput and it was going to cost £800 to fix it. I had, at that point in time, nothing to pay it with. John contacted me - I knew himn from selling records but had never met him - and said to me, look I can see you're in a spot of bother and I'm in a position to help you out, and you know what, he drove all the way to my house the next day and GAVE me the money to pay for the car repair. I said gave because he made it clear he didn't want me to pay him back, he was doing someone a good turn just because he could. I never forgot that and never will. A couple of people have helped me like that and they never want any praise or thanks. Well I don't think there's anything wrong with mentioning what John did for me and I've pm'd him concerning this in case I can now be of any use to him. He's a f*cking gem and doesn't deserve to be messed about in the way he's described.
  13. Don't get my wrong, I'm not championing anything here, I only heard it yesterday and I didn't like the original version to start with. Just thought people might like to become aware of it. But to compare to an Ian Levine production is daft because Ian obviously uses multi tracks, this one sounds like it was done live or on 4 track and I think it sounds like a real 60's record. It's on a bonus record (3"!) given away as an extra with a new release cd. p.s. unnecessary to whom?
  14. Did you actually listen to it?
  15. Amazing, everyone who heard it - including me - thought it was a 60's recording to start with!
  16. The thing is - this is a 2009 recording by a white guy! Just shows that you really CAN make proper, good authentic sounding Northern Soul music in this day and age, because to me that sounds like an authentic 60's record
  17. Don't agree that they're programmed myself...
  18. I'll just wait and see if anyone knows before I say anything mate
  19. What sort of iffy?
  20. MP3 just below n.b. theres 30 seconds cut out of the middle
  21. Thanks everyone..
  22. Doesn't tell you where the samples come from Joe but thanks anyway
  23. No it's a male vocalist...good one too
  24. PETE SMITH 28 JENKS ROAD WOMBOURNE WOLVERHAMPTON WV5 0BL 01902 893569 07784 507360 Pete.smith@freeuk.com HI FOLKS THIS WILL PROBABLY BE THE LAST LIST FROM THIS ADDRESS AS I’LL BE MOVING AT THE WEEKEND, I’LL SEND OUT DETAILS LATER IN THE WEEK. ALL ARE USA ORIGINALS ERNIE ANDREWS – FINE YOUNG GIRL – CAPITOL EX 25 Classic oldie BLONDELL BREED & THE IMPORTS – WHEN I SEE MY BABY – ACTA DEMO EX- 40 SOLD Good lesser known dancer, plays fine, just a few light marks THE BUTLER BROTHERS – REPUTATION – ACADEMY DEMO EX 60 One of my favourite ‘lesser knowns’ – sounds like Wall Of Sound – Hang On THE COMMANDS – HEY IT’S LOVE / NO TIME FOR YOU – DYNAMIC WHITE DEMO VG+ 75 Very rare WD and two stunning sides. Record’s been around a bit but plays fine with the odd click THE CONTESSAS – I KEEP ON KEEPING ON – E RECORDS M- 30 Two stunning girl group sides JACKIE EDWARDS – KEEP ON RUNNING – WIRL VG 30 Very rare original version on it’s first Jamaican press – used though, plays loud but has crackle LILLY FIELDS – I’VE GOT TO TELL YOU – HOLTON DEMO M- 75 SOLD Lovely track, old Dome spin, and nice on a demo ANNABELLE FOX – LONELY GIRL – SATIN DEMO M- 250 These are usually well used, this one is almost pristine, best copy I’ve ever seen and what a stunning track too MARLENE & THE DEBANETTES – BAD LOVE – SUNBURST M- 50 Another cracking lesser known oldie that never quite went big – brilliant girl group dancer HAROLD MELVIN & THE BLUE NOTES – GET OUT (AND LET ME CRY) – LANDA EX 75 A nice copy with a couple of marks which don’t affect play THE PARFAYS – YOU GOT A GOOD THING GOIN’ BOY – FONTANA VG+ 25 SOLD Another nice girlie dancer, this has some surface marks and a few clicks hence half price MIKE ST. SHAW – FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART – REPRISE DEMO EX+ 30 Unknown? Lesser known anyway. Starts with a spoken intro then goes into a good plodding r&b dancer which builds throughout. Nice one. THE SUPREMES – I WANT A GUY – TAMLA 54038 M- 75 SOLD Rare very early Supremes single – looks strange seeing them on the striped Tamla label and not Motown THE SAINTS – I’VE BEEN TAKEN FOR A RIDE – KENT DEMO M- 60 Tremendous double sider – also came out as “The Uptones”, Miles Grayson magic SHARON SOUL – HOW CAN I GET TO YOU – WILD DEUCE VG+ 20 Dark blue label. Looks scruffy, few clicks near the beginning otherwise great GEORGE ‘N SONNY SANDS – DOWN BY THE OCEAN – NEW VOICE DEMO EX+ 40 Truly brilliant atmospheric beat ballad – Rightoeus Brothers style – massive production – love it! IKE & TINA TURNER – CAN’T CHANCE A BREAK UP – SUE M- 35 Stormer! IKE & TINA TURNER – DUST MY BROOM – TRC EX 30 Plain orange label version original. Has some marks on the vinyl from storage but plays mint. DANA VALERY – YOU DON’T KNOW WHERE YOUR INTEREST LIES – COLUMBIA DEMO EX- 275 OK this is a smashing copy but it has a minor background click during the first verse and one on the last note of the fade out, otherwise it’s fine and will always pack the floor. JEAN WELLS – DON’T COME RUNNING TO ME – ABC DEMO EX 40 Nice version of Cissie Houston. Has a scratch on the B side where my Stanley knife slashed it while opening the package – however the b side is not by Jean Wells anyway, it’s a throwaway guitar instrumental. And it plays ok, albeit with a click. Well there we go, the first SOULFUL 20. Actually it’s going to be SOULFUL 23 because I have a few new Uk things I was going to list last week but forgot… JACKIE ROSS – SELFISH ONE – UK PYE INTERNATIONAL DEMO M- 100 SOLD An absolutely stunning copy and ultra rare too – you won’t see one like this for a long long time EARL HARRISON – HUMPHREY STOMP – UK LONDON DEMO M- 60 SOLD Beautiful yellow demo DORIS TROY – I’LL DO ANYTHING – UK CAMEO PARKWAY VG++ 100 Wow this looks beautiful, I could stare at it all day LOL has a couple of marks but plays near mint and it’s a very, very tough issue By the way, I have a few things on Ebay, all British including a superb copy of Ray Merrell and lots of CBS demos https://shop.ebay.co.uk/mayfairmenthol/m.html?_dmd=1&_ipg=50&_sop=12&_rdc=1 THANKS FOR READING – HOPE YOU FIND SOMETHING OF INTEREST I TAKE CREDIT CARDS, PAYPAL (THERE’S A CHARGE FOR THIS OVER £50 SORRY), CHEQUE, CASH, AND BANK TRANSFER.
