You're mixing it up with something else, this isn't on a British original single if you're talking about Spooners Crowd. US copy goes for £40 to £60.

tHE BOTTOM ONE ISN'T A REISSUE, IT WAS JUST STILL ON CATALOGUE WHEN THEY CHANGED LABEL DESIGN. But it is tougher than the first pink label.

What do you mean by 'proper'? It's just a question of having a cut off point, date wise. I wouldn't include Jayboy's in my 'proper' UK collection despite it being a fantastic label. I class it as a 70's (mainly) reissue label. The only one I'd keep would be Ray merrell, the rest would go with the reissues. Betty Boo lives in my "all time favourites" section anyway but I wouldn't put it with my UK collection.

The difference is that Lee Roye and hundreds of others were released because of Northern demand, therefore they were automatically tailored to the NS scene. Records from the previous decade came out, didn't sell anything, and so were and still are hard to find. That's why I wouldn't put a UK copy of Lee Roye in my collection (but would do on US). Earlier this year I sold a tremendous UK collection, I kept Chapter 5, Chubby Checker and a few others, I couldn't let labels dictate to me what I was going to buy, so I just buy what I like - I do prefer a nice red and white demo to anything else though.

too old for that malarky now mate - I'm 50 tomorrow!

I've been to Stoke several times, I enjoyed the first couple but the only way I could ever enjoy it now would be to take a shitload of nighter aids (which I don't do) and thats why I always end up going home at about 3am, can't stand anymore. Little Queenie? Whatever floats your boat, I'm not saying I wouldn't feel that way about ANY nighter I went to nowadays not just Stoke because my interest level is just so low to be honest, but if I were to go out and seriously try to enjoy myself I'd like to hear maybe 50% good oldies and 50% newies and lesser knowns and no modern. At all.

I collect British and I always class the Grapevines etc as being separate from my main collection which is just 60's plus the odd rare 70's release (Jon Ford, Skullsnaps etc). Most Grapevine singles are overpriced because of the f*ckwits buying them having little or no knowledge.

PETE SMITH 14 MARKET LANE LOWER PENN WOLVERHAMPTON WV4 4UJ 01902 340255 07784 507360 Pete.smith@freeuk.com More wounded records for sale If you remember, I did a list of “wounded” records back end of last year, some hissed, some had cracks or scratches, anyway that was an amazingly successful list for some reason, so now that I have accumulated a fair number of records which fit the above description, I decided it was time to try again. Look out for a couple of really big records on this list, all graded extremely fairly and I hope, accurately. All are USA originals. PATTI AUSTIN –SOMEONE’S GONNA CRY -CORAL DEMO Generally VG++ but has a scratch from halfway in til the end which can be heard softly in the background - the scratch also runs onto the label leaving as thin line. Usual price 125 todays price 35 SOLD EDDIE ALSTON -GONNA GET ME A WATCHDOG -BARRY To all intents and purposes this looks like an EX copy but it is cracked around where the run off meets the label. You can-t see it or feel it unless you slightly bend the record. Usual price 50 todays price25 DON COVAY -SOMEBODY-S GOT TO LOVE -ATLANTIC Vinyl is VG++ but has a water damaged label Usual price 15 todays price5 THE CORVELLS -HE-S SO FINE -LU PINE DEMO Vinyl strong VG++ but has lots of label wear especially at top and to the left Usual price 30 todays price10 GENE CHANDLER -THERE WAS A TIME -BRUNSWICK Ring wear on label and vinyl looks a bit scruffy but plays really well Usual price 20 todays price10 SOLD THE CARTER BROTHERS –SHE’S SO FINE -JEWEL Looks like sh*t, plays fine with a bit of crackle in the background. Label has ringwear. Usual price 30 todays price8 CANDY & THE KISSES -THE 81 -CAMEO Scruffy looking vinyl, sticker on the label over artists name Usual price 15 todays price5 BETTY EVERETT –I’VE GOT A CLAIM ON YOU -ONEDERFUL Looks VG+ and has a few marks but plays EX Usual price 45 todays price25 THE ETHICS –THERE’LL STILL BE A SWEET TOMORROW -VENT DEMO Not much wrong with this -nice glossy copy with a couple of marks and one or two tiny background pops Usual price 40 todays price25 THE EMPIRES -COME HOME GIRL -CHAVIS Looks VG+, plays with a little background hiss which can be eradicated by turning the treble down. Nice doo-wop type sound Usual price 40 todays price20 FANTASTIC FOUR –CAN’T STOP LOOKING FOR MY BABY -RIC TIC This looks like it was run over by a bus. It plays with clicks and pops all the way through but it doesn’t jump or stick at all. Usual price 125 todays price10 SOLD THE 5TH DIMENSION -CALIFORNIA SOUL -SOUL CITY Nothing really wrong with this, has a bump on the run in which makes a noise on one rotation Usual price 15 todays price5 LOWELL FULSOM -TRAMP -KENT Marker pen writing on the label, VG crackles mainly at the start Usual price 20 todays price8 ELLIE GREENWICH -BABY -RED BIRD DEMO Oh the tragedy! Looks near mint but when you play it, it-s got styrene distortion all the way through. Not really hiss, just distortion. Usual price 150 todays price40 SOLD KELLY GARRETT –LOVE’S THE ONLY ANSWER -SMASH This one is even more upsetting than Ellie...looks solid mint, until you play it, and it hisses all the way through. I can only describe it as a non-too aggressive hiss as by the time she gets going you don’t really notice because the music is so loud but yes, it has styrene hiss. Usual price 150 plus todays price 50 GLORIA GAYNOR –SHE’LL BE SORRY -JOCIDA This one-s cracked right across and has been repaired on the B side. Plays with light tick throughout Usual price 25 todays price5 DOLORES GIBSON -I GOT A FEELING -ELLOMA Very light background noise otherwise a pretty solid performer. Mild ringwear. Usual price 75 todays price35 RONNIE GAYLORD & BURT HOLIDAY -LOVE WHERE HAVE YOU GONE -PALMER Hardly anything wrong with thgis one..couple of marks, bit of label wear, otherwise..fine! Usual price 25 todays price15 ART GRAYSON -BAD DREAMS -FOUR CORNERS The label is very worn on the reaised part and the vinyl only looks VG but it plays great, just some crackle at the start -great R&B tune too Usual price 50 todays price20 MARGIE HENDRIX -ONE ROOM PARADISE -MERCURY Has a few superficial scratches, none of them feelable, plays superbly with the occasional pop/click, and the label has some wear on the raised part, otherwise it’s a good, playable copy of an indemand sound Usual price 150 todays price60 **** WILLIE HUTCH -LOVE RUNS OUT -DUNHILL DEMO **** This one should really be on my main sales list but it has damage to the B side (The Duck). The A side has some marks which look a little nasty but cause no problems when playing. There-s a few background clicks in the middle but again, nothing to get upset about. A nice record to impress with behind the decks, but remember, there’s a f*cked up Duck on the other side! (Actually that plays okay after the first 45 seconds). Label has a bit of wear, again on the raised part. Usual price 600 plus todays price375 FREDDIE HOUSTON -CHILLS AND FEVER -OLD TOWN DEMO Lots of scratches and marks over this one, plays through with clicks, doesn’t stick or jump. Usual price 50 todays price20 FRED HUGHES -BABY BOY -BRUNSWICK Lots of ring wear on the label, vinyl VG to VG+ Usual price 15 todays price5 HIGH VOLTAGE -COUNTRY ROAD -COLUMBIA DEMO Nice copy but has a little half inch crack on the edge, plays with barely a noise at all Usual price 40 todays price15 OK WELL THAT’S IT FOR NOW, OBVIOUSLY THIS IS ONLY THE LETTERS A TO H SO THERE ARE TWO MORE LISTS OF WOUNDED RECORDS TO COME, IT MAY BE THIS WEEK BUT MORE LIKELY WILL BE NEXT. I REALLY DON’T WANT ANY RETURNS ON THESE SO PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU’VE READ THE DESCRIPTIONS THOROUGHLY, YOU KNOW ME, I DO GRADE VERY HONESTLY AND I WOULD NOT ATTEMPT TO SELL YOU OVERGRADED RECORDS. THANKS FOR READING, SEE YOU LATER PETE

No problem!

You're mixing up two techniques here, the water in the ultrasonic cleaner is always cold, not boiling, I've never even considered trying it with hot water. And none of my records have ever suffered damage using this technique.

Pete S replied to vince ayres's topic in Website Sales
Vince, the stuff I've had off you has been great, 3 so far I think, but the postage is too high for non-recorded delivery. I do first class recorded for 20p less than you do standard. Just thought I'd mention it before someone else did. -
JM could get £100 for Bok To Bach by Sounds of Lancashire!

I swear I had no idea you had one for sale and neither did I reactivate the thread - it was actually seeing Pottsy asking £400 for one that made me comment on it

Can't remember how I found out, sorry, did an article about 20 years back...but have a listen, they sound identical anyway and have the same producers and arrangers

That's it, well remembered!

Why do people charge so much for this? I sold mine for £175 a couple of months back and then I felt I'd overcharged. There sure are some stupid people around if they pay more than £200 for it. Dave's right, the Out Of The past one is rarer than the Sassy one!
-
I've got an ultrasonic record cleaner and I've mentioned it to you lot many times before. Every couple of years, Aldi sell these, they are ostensibly for cleaning jewellery, spectacles, cutlery etc but they work a treat on ground in dirt on reciords. £16.99 and they have them in at the moment. You can't fit the whole record in, you have to rotate it but it does work.

Recorded for the film and not available anywhere as far as I know

I wouldn't, Afternoon Of The Rhino is a KING amongst Northern instrumentals...a real floorshaker
