  1. Just to let people know that I have stopped the podcast feed to iTunes, I was absolutely astonished to find that the total number of downloads up to now is 24,383, nearly 25,000 downloads, and still barely anyone donates anything (approx 30 people donated) so a few weeks back I set up a podcast group, the group get access to everything, it's £10 to join so if you're interested just PM me. It was costing £50 a month to keep it running because of the bandwidth needed to cope with the amount of downloads. I'll still post up some sessions to cloudmix but they are not downloadable. cheers Pete
  2. Legend has it that the first ever cover up was Bobby Patterson on Pama, covered by Rob Bellars at the Wheel
  3. In the film Once Upon A Time In The Midlands, "Bar B Q" by Wendy Rene comes on the car radio.
  4. Why should they, they know absolutely nothing about the music that they get sent as mp3's to make into vinyl records, if you tell them that the recording is by you or that you own the copyright, what are they meant to do, spend a month trying to track down the information?
  5. Well I'm still laughing at Cunter Punch and I meant to ask you Tone, how was your Jah Wanks single?
  6. F&cking hell he didn't kill anybody so why so much hatred?
  7. About 4 months ago I sold all of my UK label ska, rocksteady and reggae collection, I would say at least 20% are irreplaceable as they just do not come up for sale, and when they do, I'd never be able to afford them. Thank God for vinyl carvers, my reggae box is stuffed full of copies of the records that I sold now, I make my own labels, I choose my own A and B sides, and I have some great tracks available to play on vinyl, here, in my record room. If you just want the music to play on vinyl like I do, there's nothing wrong with it at all.
  8. Have a look in sales from 3 days ago, I put up a list of over 100 Northern and other soul cd's, all cheap.
  9. Except a lot of us would pay a thousand quid just to relive one more night there. More Harrods than Primark.
  10. Your sales list.
  11. I'm supposed to try to stop people getting ripped off as part of my (Soul Source moderating) job Mike.
  12. All these people who found Dena Barnes in the past, how come you never told Ian Levine when he was making his film, he searched all over for artists but the trail was stone cold in this case.
  13. A bit of common sense at last.
  14. Failing to mention that you originally listed it for £50, which did need commenting on
  15. I got one of those (the first boot) off Ebay for £26 two sundays ago. To keep I mean. All depends on the timing and who's actually buying at the time I suppose.
  16. But it is crazy when you can get two tracks cut for yourself for £20?
  17. Hi Jonathan, Crystal (Barnes) contacted me earlier which is why I started this topic. I estimate that dena's record must have sold 20,000 copies in the UK, it's been bootlegged 3 times at least and even got an official release on the UK label Grapevine. That issue must have sold a good 8000 copies, therefore as co-writer she must surely be owed some royalties on that. I would presume that Harry Baulk would have leased the track out. The track has also been released on cd in the UK too, again, there should be royalties owed. You will truly never know how much her record is loved on the Northern Soul scene, it would rate in most peoples top 20 tracks of all time and had she lived longer, she would definitely have been invited over to the UK.
  18. I know this is of no consolation now but all of the soul and all but 3 of the reggae/ska are replaceable fairly easily. If I had spares I'd have done em you cheap.
  19. Tim printed the songsheet for If You Ever in his fanzine, where it credits "Gardenia Barnes" as co composer.
  20. She told me she doesn't know who Duke Browner or Harry Baulk are, in fact thats why she contacted me in the first place, to try and find out who produced the record.
  21. I dunno, I was hoping for like 30 quid...
  22. Sorry folks, false alarm. Well actually not - I honestly am in touch with her daughter - but Dena is dead, sadly. I think she is totally gobsmacked about the fact that anyone knew her Mums record! Anyway, I do have a phone number if anyone wants it, and if you get any records you'd better cut me in
  23. Amazing, all these years searching for Dena Barnes and her daughter writes to me out of the blue this morning. Any of you researchers or radio people want to speak to her, I might give you the info if you PM me.
  24. Mike I presume you are referring to me here, well probably best to stick to the facts and that was that you were selling a bootleg of Michigan Move for an extremely high price, so I went out and bought one and stuck it on for half your price and you then reduced yours to lower than mine. If I'm wrong I apologise in advance.
