  2. I'm just not quite sure what the Jetstar set up of today has to do with the original Pama "three brothers" set up of 1967 that's all. And baxck to the point of this, which we've gone miles off, The Volumes does not exist on Pama, if it did, we'd have seen one by now and I'm not taking Dave Kil's word for it as a pink elephant was probably holding the record at the time he saw it. No offence Dave
  3. They all did that though - Bunny Lee would walk into Pama, do a deal, then go a mile away to Trojan and do a deal with them for the same product; same record comes out on both trojan and Pama with artists named changed (Pat kelly becomes Little Boy Blue or Boy Wonder, Lester Sterling becomes Mr Versatile, Dennis Alcapone becomes El Paso or B Smith etc etc)
  4. Tell us why then, oh great Reggae Guru, or did you lose the postage stamp on which you wrote your information? I was just going on this quote from Carl Palmer: "Everyone got their money, some artists even ended up owing Pama money (presumably after they had received advances bigger than the actual sales generated)" [authors brackets not mine] "and some of the artists that had been involved earlier had even come back to the label"
  5. but why then release a 3 or 4 year old non-hit record when everything else was contemporary?
  6. That Jimmy Delphs record is brilliant I think, it's only like 15/25 quid but what a cracker!
  7. That statement is totally contradicted in the lengthy history of Pama records as reported in the book "Tighten Up" which says that in fact Pama may have overpaying producers to license product. And obviously the reason that there's no cd's of Pama reggae is that the license deal was for the duration of that singles release, not a 30 year world wide copyright deal. Also only one of the Palmer brothers has any involvement with the music scene, apparently.
  8. Come on Tone, it was a massive regional hit as can be testified by the copies on Ebay every day and the fact it was pirated at the time.
  9. So they decide to put out one single from the American Arts label, not the popular Gotta Give Her Love, but the non-hit Just can't Help Myself, yes that makes a lot of sense doesn't it? And in all the years since then, nobody has been able to come up with a picture of the label, not even on ebay which has turned up every single rarity released in the UK. You two should join the ranks of the guys who've seen a silver top London Darrell Banks...they were sure they'd seen one...a British one not a S.A. or Dutch one.

  11. What had you been eating when you breathed on it?
  12. This was on January 10th 2005 Just thought I'd let you know about this arsehole, he advertises northern records with reserves that nobody ever meets, so then he sends private emails offering the records at twice their actual value. "Dear mayfairmenthol,You bid on this 45 but did not make the reserve. I am offering this record for $199.99. This is a good price for this record! Please reply ASAP. Bob,You will save on the postage if you take 2 or more records! It looks like you will save more on the postage if you take the 3 records you bid on!!!!" The records included the Persionettes and The Uptights. I sell the Uptights for £75-£80 so I'm hardly likely to pay £100. Anyway I sent him this perfectly polite reply "Sorry Bob, thanks for the offer but all of those are too expensive for me, as a dealer I have to be able to make a profit and I couldn't on those. thanks anyway though Pete so today I got this reply "Please stop bidding on my records if you can't pay retail! You are just waisting my time! Bob naturally I have replied telling him to shove his records up his arse and I told him I'd make him famous by putting him on my list, and here he is, so could I suggest that everyone be wary about dealing with an idiot like this. His Ebay user name is Count769. Apart from that, have a good week everyone Pete that went out to around 1500 people and a few hours later I had a call from Kev Roberts saying Bob had been in touch with him and could he please call me off!
  13. Yes, I kind of liked the first two seconds, the rest was a pile of sh*t
  14. Yes it is, unusual with a solid centre though - the US demo must be nearly as hard as Landslide demo.
  15. Swoz, think about it, it's dead easy to get loads of signatures. Just ask me, or anyone else who does a mail out, to put a link to this thread or straight to the petition. I can't think of anyone who would charge for doing it, I'd be happy to do it.
  16. Someone else had an 'authentic' acetate of this a couple of years ago, think his name was Mike, it was on a Liberty custom studio acetate though, he was certainly sold it as genuine but I was never 100% convinced.
  17. Christ just for a second I thought you said A mid-tempo masterpiece from QUEEN
  18. Yeah I guess so - hey listen I'm just commenting on what I saw, that's all, I've no beef with anyone over this, honestly.
  19. It's not what was said, it was the way it was said Rob...
  20. No, the petition is a fine thing to do for a great singer, just can't see why people have to tell us all that they've signed it that's all. p.s. done
  21. Just a thought, are we now going to get 500 replies all saying just one word "done"?
