  1. Simsy is right, I did have it 5 years ago and posted it up then, I apologise for not being able to remember sh*t any more!
  2. Don't know the source Darren. There's another John Bowie acetate "Help me pretty baby", very uptempo, not great though. Also a different demo of the above track, off acetate, much better. Here's the full blurb... Rock, Mod & Soul! The Kayden & Merben label existed for a few short years in the Philadelphia area, and released some excellent northern soul, mod instrumentals and 60s garage! The unreleased acetates by John Bowie is worth the price alone, not only this but you get northern soul by Bill Horton, the long version of Vivian Carol's rare Merben 45, mod instrumentals by Jimmy Roma and the Matt Sound, and garage pounders by Bram Rigg Set and the Shags and New Jersey's own J.D. Rogues! A tiny label, but one with some really great sounds -- a great slice of the late 60s Philly scene, and a pretty darn soulful one at that! The label started as Kayden in Philly, then moved across the river to New Jersey and switched to Merben -- but had a really unified sound throughout their short run, so much so that even the few pop recordings here come across with a pretty soulful feel! Most numbers are upbeat, and move in a Northern-ish soul mode -- and the male singers here are especially great, almost a bit more deep soul than usual for the Philly scene, especially some of the groups. CD features 24 cuts from both labels, including some unreleased material. Tracks: 1. John Bowie - You're Gonna Miss A Good Thing, Baby 2. John Bowie - At The End Of The Day 3. John Bowie - Help Me Pretty Baby* (Merben Acetate) 4. Bill Horton - I Wanna Know 5. Leverett Sisters - Stop, Think It Over 6. Leverett Sisters - A Place For Me 7. Vivian Carol - Oh Yeah Yeah Yeah*(Long Version) 8. Jimmy Roma - Paint It Black 9. Cody Michaels - Seven Days Fifty Two Weeks 10. Cody Michaels - Open The Door Richard 11. John Bowie - You're Gonna Miss A Good Thing*(Demo Version) 12. John Bowie - Help Me Pretty Baby*(Demo Version) 13. Matt Sound - Ask Any Girl 14. Matt Sound - What Am I Gonna Do* 15. Matt Sound - She Loves Me For Myself*(Vocal Version) 16. Sharon Marshall - Where Did You Leave Your Heart 17. Natural Facts - Shake Me Wake Me* 18. J.D. Rogues - Why Did God Make Girls 19. Bats - How Could You Have Known 20. Bram Rigg Set - I Can Only Give You Everything 21. Bram Rigg Set - Take The Time Be Yourself 22. Shags - Breathe In My Ear 23. Shags - Tell Me 24. Shags - As Long As I Have You *previously unreleased material
  3. You're not thinking of an alt version of Court Davis I posted are you? Sure I've not had the John Bowie before
  4. I think it's just a studio demo recorded before they decided upon what the finished version should be like. Only posted it cos I'd never heard it before.
  5. Tenner apiece...
  6. Just posting this here as refosoul is having some work done to it, will remove when it's back up, I hadn't heard this before so maybe others haven't either, it's a demo version of You're Gonna Miss A Good Thing Baby.
  7. I really like popcorn music - not all of it, but a lot of it - some I don't get at all to be honest but I use a lot of popcorn tracks on my Found In The Basement podcasts. In fact, this evening alone I downloaded all 30 Volumes (thats around 900 tracks) of the Let's Dance The Popcorn cd series. Should be fun going through that lot!
  8. Did it play, if so, you were lucky...
  9. Thanks for letting us know the news

  12. These sure are hard to find. I've got two of them, both have writing on the back though, often thought about selling them myself. My two are the only ones I've ever seen.
  13. Oops, I've also got one of those up for sale this morning!

  15. I always thought SS turned it up when he pressed Bari Track and the vocal version, amazed that it was never released at the time though. It's definitely the proper backing track.
  16. The thing is, if someone comes on here selling records, you expect them to be honest. Your record is late arriving so you PM them, and they don't reply despite the fact that they've been on the site in another capacity. This stinks as far as I'm concerned, and it points to the fact that something very suspicious is going on if the seller can't even be bothered to communicate with his buyer. PM them one last time, then name and shame, thats what I'd do.
  17. Contact Mike or Chalky or Ken, tell them what happened and they'll discuss it between them I should think.
  18. Kev if he is on here and has not replied to your PM you should report this to the moderators, that's very poor behaviour on the part of the seller.
  19. Fun for everyone! Unreleased acetates, crazy instrumentals, UK stompers, £1000 rarities and just plain great records, there should be something for everyone here. The Timi Yuro track sounds suspicially like "Take Me For A Little While" while the Jimmy Bishop Trio, although to be honest pretty boring, is a one-off instrumental cut to the Marva Lee version of "If You Can't Be True" which you won't hear anywhere else. I sold the original acetate for £250 a couple of years back. My personal favourites on here would be the criminally underrated Pee Wee, Shuck & Huey, which I now firmly believe is sung by a female and not a young boy, Don & Ron which is a record I've never owned but always wanted to, and The Sharpets is wonderful to hear in great quality for a change. https://podcast9122525417.podomatic.com/entry/2011-05-24T08_40_30-07_00 TIMI YURO - SPOIL ME - UNISSUED MERCURY ACETATE / THE STRIDES - I CAN GET ALONG - M S / STORMIE WINTERS - LIFESAVER - MERCURY / PEE WEE, SHUCK & HUEY - BESIDE MYSELF - FLAGG / DETROIT SYMPHONY - I HAVE FAITH IN YOU (INST) - UNRELEASED / RUFUS WOOD - BEFORE 2001 - ESPANOLA / LEWIS CLARK - I NEED YOUR LOVING SO BAD - TIGERTOWN / SANDY WYNNS - I'LL GIVE THAT TO YOU - SIMCO / THE PHONETICS - JUST A BOY'S DREAM - TRUDEL / THE PEELS - TIME MARCHES ON - UK AUDIO FIDELITY / RIGHTEOUS BROTHERS BAND - RAT RACE - VERVE / THE FIVE CHANCES - STRANGER I LOVE YOU - FINCH / KENNY ROBERTS - RUN LIKE THE DEVIL - UK PYE / PHYLLIS BROWN - OH BABY - RAINBO / KLICKY ROBINSON - WHEN I WANNA SEE YOU - MODE / SHERLOCK HOLMES - STANDING AT A STANDSTILL - PART III / ROSCOE & FRIENDS - BROADWAY CISSY - TEC / DON & RON - I'M SO, SO SORRY - WHITE CLIFFS / THE SHARPETS - LOST IN THE WORLD OF A DREAM - SOUND CITY / RUBY - FEMININE INGENUITY - GOLD TOKEN / DELRAYS INCORPORATED - DESTINATION UNKNOWN - TAMPETE / DENNIS D'ELL - BETTER USE YOUR HEAD - UK CBS / THE 7 DWARFS - STOP GIRL - IDEAL / JOHN ANDREWS - IT'S JUST LOVE - UK PARLOPHONE / JIMMY BISHOP TRIO - IF YOU CAN'T BE TRUE - UNISSUED VIRTUE ACETATE / ROBERT TANNER - SWEET MEMORIES - MEGATONE / RICHARD POPCORN WYLIE - HANKY PANKY - GRAPEVINE / THE DORE STRINGS - GONE WITH THE WIND IS MY LOVE (INST) - KENT / THE ROTATIONS - DROP A DIME ON D9 - FRANTIC / POSSE -EVIL - JANUS / TOMMY NAVARRO - I CREID MY LIFE AWAY - DEJAC
  20. I've got one at £30, mint
  21. May have been test pressings but don't know of any demos, and they'd be stickered anyway I should think. I remember my friend Paul getting a copy of Richard Searling a couple of weeks before it came out but don't remember it being a demo.
  22. Hi Lorraine, I was trying to hold out to be the winner of the "last one to say welcome" competition, but it looks like it may go on for weeks, so WELCOME LORRAINE and take no notice if anyone says anything about me
  23. 4 BLAKELEY HEATH DRIVE WOMBOURNE WOLVERHAMPTON WV5 0HW 01902 326306 Pete.smith@freeuk.com A FEW BITS FOR SALE... THE GOSPEL CLASSICS – MORE LOVE, THAT’S WHAT WE NEED – CHECKER DEMO 60 SOLD Very, very rare on original demo, now this has had a bang on the edge and has a tiny crack just about reaching the first groove, however it plays MINT, trust me. THE GREEN CRUNCHEONS ALLSTARS – GUYS AND GALS BOUNCE – BOO GA LOO VG+ 40 SOLDI’m mystified as to why this listed in John Manship’s price guide as “Latin”, it’s a tremendous instrumental version of KARATE BOOGALOO using the same backing track, and I’ll tell you how rare it is, this is only the second one I’ve ever had. Looks used, plays really really well, also has a small number sticker on the label. Bet you don’t see this listed again for a long time. SHARON SOUL – HOW CAN I GET TO YOU – WILD DEUCE DEMO EX+ 40 SOLD Beautiful white demo, excellent dancer JERRY COOK – I HURT ON THE OTHER SIDE – CAPITOL DEMO VG++ 100 SOLD Nice, glossy copy, does have one or two marks and faint crackle right at the beginning of the intro, otherwise playas really strong EX throughout. THE C.O.D.’s – MICHAEL – KELLMAC DEMO EX- 25 SOLD Issue as you know is extremely common, white demno much tougher and looks great too. Has two X’s plus a a United Records Distributers small sticker. THE EYES OF BLUE – HEART TROUBLE – DERAM VG+ 30 SOLD Very unusual to find a USA stock copy of this, only usually see demos, don’t think this one has seen a sleeve for much of it’s life so a few crackles at the start otherwise plays fine. ROBIN RICE – I’VE HAD IT – METRO INTERNATIONAL EX 75 SOLD The brilliant first issue with added reverb on the vocal, the Crackerjack release is a different, poorer mix. I remember the first time I ever got this, it was unknown on this label and I auctioned it for £125! That was over a dozen years ago. SOLOMON KING – THIS BEAUTIFUL DAY – UK COLUMBIA EX 60 SOLD Bargain price as it’s near mint but has a storage warp, plays perfectly but I can’t charge £100 for it so pretty good price for this rarity. GENE McDANIELS – WALK WITH A WINNER – UK LIBERTY VG++ 60 SOLD Very rare UK stock copy, few minor pops near the start and a couple of marks on the vinyl Also IPOD CLASSIC 120gig BLACK FOR SALE, £100, AND THIS ONE COMES PRELOADED WITH OVER 22,000 TRACKS! Front is in excellent shape, reverse is scratched from constantly being on the table, not that it effects anything. Theses are still £180 in the shops and of course it’d take years to get a library like that together. I now have another Ipod, an Ipad, and an Iphone, hence sale. SOLD THANKS FOR READING, IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BUY ANYTHING I TAKE CARDS, CHEQUES, BANK TRANSFER, PAYPAL...(paypal user name pete.smith@freeuk.com) POSTAGE UP TO 3 RECORDS IS £2.00 RECORDED OVERSEAS I’LL QUOTE YOU CHEERS PETE
