  1. More forgotten Wigan spins... Barbara Pennington - 24 hours a day - united artists (this has to be one of the greatest UK soul productions ever. Oh ok, soul production with an English person's involvement then) Gloria & the T-Airas - I'm satisfied - Bettys Sound of Excitement - Please don't cry - Catamount (covered up as The Newbeats, sounds more like The Newbeats than the real Newbeats) Bill Brandon & Lorraine Johnson - Full time groover - Moonsong Liberty - Girl you better wake up (inst) - BASF Velvet Love - Symphony of dreams - UK Alaska (a 2 week Russ spin that was actually really nice if a bit poppy...well a lot poppy..still nice though)

  3. Apologies for this bump but I'd be really grateful if people who've asked me to reserve things, a couple from this morning, could come back to me - if it's on hold, I'll wait til 8 0 clock tonight and then sell to the next person who asked if not paid for. Ta. **** HAVE TWEAKED A FEW PRICES ****
  4. Russ, first time I ever went to Wigan, I did a tape which I listened to many many times so remember a lot of the tracks, Richard played Sandy Hadley, it was bootlegged by the time I next went which was 2 weeks later so it had a very short lifespan. Another truly forgotten oldie is on that tape, maybe forgotten because it wasn't actually very good, Freddie Hughes - Don't You Leave - Greg Uh Rudy Records. (Also included Holywood Persuaders, Nine Times, jades, Vicki Sue Robinson, Marion Love - Walk proud and pretty)
  5. I dunno mate, I'll have to have a good think about it. What really bugs me is when people list a record and call it a "Wigan monster" and they're talking about something like The Lovells which only ever got played about twice. There's monsters and there's minor spins. Forgotten Wigan dancers: wayne cochran - i'm in trouble peg leg moffett - the shocker the shirtails - i want you to stay with me john andrews - it's just love (well popular now but lay dormant for 30 years) sammy lee - what goes around sergio mendes - love music just off the top of my head
  6. Only that Otis Blackwell was originally an Ian levine Mecca spin and predates the other selections by about 4 years.
  7. I'll second that - brilliant
  8. Did he have a sidekick called Robin
  9. Every time I think of that prison story I just remember that photo that Ritchie sent up of a scantilly clad girl in a prison cell, on the floor in the corner he'd photoshopped a box of records
  10. I heard this really good popcorn tune by Rodge Martin called "I'm Standing By", early 60's with a bit of a "Stand By Me" crossed with "The Hurt" feel to it, anyway I thought if I can find a copy of that, I'll get it. Lo and behold, managed to find a copy on the net for $15 - great! It arrived today, it was only then I saw what was on the flip - "They Say" - a record which I sold three or four weeks ago without looking to see what was on the B side, I'd had it for about 2 years... what an idiot
  11. I don't have a choice Dave, I can't afford to collect records, I either sell or we don't eat. Such is life.

  13. Gary if anyone has ever championed white Northern sounds it's me, I've got absolutely nothing against blue eyed Northern at all, I love stacks of it, I just think this particular record is f*cking rubbish that's all, black or white never ever enters into it as far as I'm concerned. I also hate The Carstairs incidentally.
  14. Hope you can make these out ok Paul: Ska Beat press nothing like the others, maybe just the couple I checked were like that Rio Island Doctor Bird Ska Beat Treasure isle this last one is just bizarre, it's UK Treasure isle but has nothing in the run off on either side, the numbers often mistakenly got pressed onto where the label meets the vinyl but there's nothing
  15. Dave, Doctor Bird were pressed by whoever did Rio and I think that brings us back to Ska Beat / King to be honest.
  16. I think he's right to make those points, when you've got a very rare record like that, you don't want to get messed around and believe me, as someone who sells records on here every week, there is an awful lot of messing around and time wasting going on. He outlined his rules, that's all.
  17. Thanks Joe, before you posted this, I listed it at £50 so if anyone wants a bargain...

  19. 350, it says. Blue label demo 150 blue label issue 125 green label issue I'll stick 200 quid on it then
  20. No mate the blue is a deep blue as opposed to this sea-green one. Apparently green is the new blue in Hull.
  21. Ian, always had this in my collection, loved it from when it was first played. I like loads of records from this period, High Voltage, Lou Edwards sort of stuff. Got a Mandrill on Arista for sale actually.
  22. Never seen one before and JM only lists a blue DJ copy (at 350), anyone know what I should be asking for a green label DJ copy?
  23. How much should I ask for a mint one of these, anyone know?
  24. As if by magic - look what I got yesterday..
