I've currently got an unsold white demo at £50, there's a couple of label variations, this is the rarer E George Clemens one as opposed to the plain E one. I'd sooner keep it than let it go any cheaper.

For f*cks sake, at the risk of repeating myself AGAIN, I don't have a problem with Jock at all, I disagree with him on some things but all I'm bothered about here is the way he *appeared to* go for Gene, as I would have been whoever it had been directed at, you even.

I know it's only a moot point in the grans scheme of things Russ but all those top dj's played off emidiscs as part of their set, in another topic I was actually recalling buying an emidisc of Sam straight out of his play box, he used to get them from Rob Lythall of leicester. Remember keith Minshull, big room mainstay for many years, emi's everywhere.

No what I mean is that he rightly says that white cover versions of black songs are latgely insipid, and I agree with him, except those three that he chose there are not insipid and are all very, very good records (Walker Bros, Moody Blues, Beatles). We've had the Moody Blues / Bessie Banks argument loads of times though.

No, Bill Pursell was covered as Sons Of Moses by Sam, I bought his own emidisc of that off him at Newcastle Tiffs to get The Camp, which was on the other side of his copy. Chris Cerf was sent to me by John Manship by mistake with "barbara mills - the bigger they are" (Fabulettes) on the other side, we'd never heard of either of them as they were east coast nighter sounds. Lorraine Silver was on a 4 track I had with things like bernie williams, I'd actually asked for tony hester - down in the dumps but he hadn't got it so put lost summer love on, again, we didn't know it because Wigan hadn't started playing it at that point.

Although this practise was more prevalent in the 50s - and worse artistically - it still occurred in the 60s. The most extreme examples like the Walker Brothers "My Ship Is Coming In", the Moody Blues "Go Now" and the Beatles atrocious "Twist and Shout" still continue to grate even to this day all of those are as good as or better than the originals - he's set his agenda out right from the start

It's not that sad because it was played on pre-release for a long time before it came out on 20th century and before Ian had those Tomorrow label demos made up, the only way anyone could get it was to get an emidisc done. It was truly massive at the time so all the dj's needed a copy.
