  1. Now I was told that if refosoul wasn't working, it was ok to temporarily put up an mp3. Can you check?
  2. Refosoul wasn't working, what am I supposed to do, sing it for you? Please remind me what the four are, I can remember one other. Get off my back Chalky, you're becoming way to transparent.
  3. Mine was too dear
  4. You've got to find someone who wants the record badly enough though Dave, I could list it at £300 and wait forever, or £200 and sell it immediately. I always choose the latter through necessity.
  5. He didn't want my white demo at £25
  6. I've got that Sophisticates at £75, Poppies at £75 and the Wombat that went for £350 at £200. Why do people bid so much when they can buy them set sale? Do they think because they are so much cheaper, there's something wrong with them?
  7. Tried to purvey that with the mp3 above. is that a word, purvey?
  8. Bryn could you explain the grading on the Helen Shapiro, it's says VG+/EX, which is it or does it start as one and end up the other? Serious question not taking the mick, I'm after a copy.
  9. Have a listen to the enclosed track, it's the most beautiful, soulful rocksteady track that you could ever imagine -a wonderful lead vocal, stunning harmonies, you could almost float away while listening to this record - I personally rate this as one of the finest Jamaican records ever made - but would you want to hear it at a Northern night? How would you dance to it for a start!
  10. Get all my stuff from them...unbeatable
  11. Very good Dave, remember it well, Ronnie Corbett was the little guy
  12. Just to backtrack a little - a few years ago I was advocating a little bit of soulful reggae well actually rocksteady being played at NS do's, Tony mentioned he'd tried The Loser and Cunnie said he was using My Conversation as an ender already. But now I think I was wrong, it's bad enough with these funk records being played let alone throwing reggae into the mix. Jamaican soul, yes by all means, but straight out and out reggae, can't see it myself.
  13. Absolute dregs of UK produced pop reggae* * back me up Tone
  14. Soul Police prepare to raid Spanish club after DJ plays a reissue
  15. And you lot all called me a w*nker for advocating this 5 years ago
  16. Wish I had one to play but haven't had this record for ages.
  17. Any offers?
  18. That's different, it's practically a soul record anyway, but rubbish like that thing on Bread sorry I forgot who it is, which actually IS reggae - how can that be played at a Northern do?
  19. I think Soul may have been a Byron Lee label (Tony will know) you're right, UK and JA both credited to Phillip James for some reason.
  20. I'm not saying they play boots at Goodyears, just that a lot of venues now are simply grown up versions of the youth club and the music is secondary to the pint / chat / dance aspect...
  21. Si those 60's tracks are Jamaican soul records (Byron lee? Not blues busters?), we're talking about reggae tracks being played, not soul tracks by Jamaican artists.
  22. because they, and 99% of their punters, don't give a toss, most small venue nights are just for the social anyway - take Goodyears in Wolverhampton, playing the same records now as they were 8 years ago, still gets packed and it's not for the quality of the music - it's the only opportunity people get to see their old mates and listen to some memories. People worried about OVO wouldn't attend venues like that in the first place. * sorry Paul, wrote that without reading you'd said exactly the same thing!
  23. And as someone who's loved and collected reggae all my life practically - I agree with Dave, separate room, yes, same room absolutely not. What the f*ck has reggae got to do with Northern Soul?
  24. You told me my MINT copy of Honey Townsend was unplayable (I sold it soon as I got it back and apparently it was mint after all) so I reckon it's your deck, it's haunted! cd's off the master tapes are always going to sound different to the original 45's, I find they're often more tinny sounding
