I'd do what I mentioned above - sell it at half the auction price. Or auction it starting at half the auction price

Unfortunately not until monday, unless I pay $59 to upgrade for the year (or $9.99 for the monthly payments - I could do that I suppose) * means I'll have to do more of them to justify it LOL -
Not really, well the topic was really about the aftermath of the auctions and how people immediately adjust their prices to match them, not about what John gets for them as it's a separate topic really.
-
Yes that is a really good analogy. What the sensible thing to do when a record does sell for double or treble it's 'real' value, would be to go in and offer it at maybe half the auction price, that way you've doubled it's original price but not sold it at the auction price, everyone happy.

Just found these on my jukebox, forgot I had them! EL PASSO - MOSQUITO ONE / OUT THE LIGHTS BABY - UK PUNCH No centre but nice VG+ copy, this is of course DENNIS ALCAPONE with a fantastic DJ version of You Don't Care/Barbwire. Ultra rare on Punch, it's usually found on Big Shot as it came out on both at the same time. £30 THE CLARENDONIANS - RULES OF LIFE / I'LL NEVER CHANGE - UK ISLAND Nice clean red and white Island in VG++ to EX shape £25 THE WAILERS - LOVE AND AFFECTION - UK SKA BEAT Great copy of this ska classic, one or two marks but strong playing VG++ £30 I ROY & THE JUMPERS - HOT BOMB - UK GREEN DOOR One of my all time favourite DJ records, I just actually scratched this taking it off the jukebox and boy am I gutted. It plays with some slight clicking, not much, but it has marked it. Was going to ask £25, so now it's£15 PRINCE BUSTER - SHARING YOU / ROUGH RIDER - JA ORANGE BLOSSOM PRE Wonderful rocksteady version of Sharing You, this goes for £100 on Blue Beat, backed with the first version of Rough Rider. NIce copy VG++ £40 OK thats it, if I find anything else I'll list it, cheers Pete

Yeah I suppose that's really what I'm trying to say about this.

Right this has been on my mind for ages and I've got to say something now, though in all honesty I can't believe I haven't said something before now. When John Manship auctions a run of the mill title - something that usually sells on ordinary lists for £50 - but sells on the JM auction for £250 for whatever reason. Now we all know that the record is actually only worth £50 and whoever bought it for £250 has spent way too much but that could be for various reasons for instance, it could be his all time favourite record and he would spend anything to get it. That's not the point. The point is, why do other people who have the record then come straight on here and try to sell their own copies for the same amount of money as John Manship got for it, knowing that it's only worth £50? Do they then cross out the price in their price guide and replace with with £250? I've seen it time and time again when a common record sells for big money, they come on here asking the same and usually go away having had to reduce the item four times before they sold it. These auctions are one offs and mean nothing when it comes to the real value of a record. Shame people can't remember this. THIS POST IS NOT AIMED AT ANY ONE PERSON SELLING ANY RECORDS ON SOUL SOURCE AT THIS MOMENT IN TIME BEFORE ANYONE STARTS

Rich to be honest, it's taken me so long to get that shrunk into a manageable size and then split it, I didn't take any notice of where it actually ended! Did you see episode one by the way? I just intend this to be the visual equivalent of picking up a fanzine to read about records. Everyone loves looking at records, I could just look at pages and pages of them. -
Hi folks, Pete Smith here, I'm back with another selection of interesting/rare/unsual/awful 45's from the 60's. As with the previous episode, this is all done live on a hand held camera and is not intended to be a candidate for an Oscar nomination, it'... Tap to view this Soul Source News/Article in full

Here is a link to a copy I sold on Ebay https://www.popsike.com/php/detaildatar.php?itemnr=120541942011 that is a 100% definite original. The description is below THE EPITOME OF SOUND - YOU DON'T LOVE ME / WHERE WERE YOU - SANDBAG 101 DEMO. Try finding a real one of these, nearly every demo I've ever seen has been a counterfeit, this one is a 100% genuine white demo and if is only EX because it has a non-sounding mark on it, otherwise would have beeen EX+. Could prove to be a bargain! (Check on Popsike and you will see numerous copies of the counterfeit white demo selling for big money to unsuspecting buyers. The counterfeit has a sharp dip about 1cm out from the middle, the original has a much smoother dip) On 12-Mar-10 at 17:11:29 GMT, seller added the following information: I HAVE ADDED A SECOND PHOTOGRAPH - THE SECOND PICTURE SHOWS WHAT THE COUNTERFEIT LOOKS LIKE, SEVERAL PEOPLE HAVE SOLD THESE ON EBAY AS ORIGINAL WHITE DEMOS BUT THEY ARE NOT! SECONDLY, SOMEONE ASKED ABOUT THE 'BRAILLE' NUMBERS. ALL ISSUES HAVE THOSE LITTLE NUMBERS EMBOSSED SOMEWHERE ON THE LABEL. NOT ALL OF THE DEMOS DO, IN FACT I ASKED TWO WELL KNOWN DJ'S TODAY, INCLUDING MICK SMITH, AND HIS DOES NOT HAVE THE BRAILLE NUMBER BUT IT DOES HAVE THE "R" STAMP ON THE RUN OFF, AS DOES MINE.
-
It's really difficult, with or without reference books, but I think the counterfeit has a sudden sharp dip just before the centre hole. Not got access to anything to confirm this so don't take it for granted.
-
Right, I'm thinking of two similar but completely different tunes, the one with the barking dog is called Beefeater by Johnny Dankworth and Town Talk is solely Jimmy Young's theme tune. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJHVrDfqK1g
-
I thought it was to start with but I can still hear this dog barking over the start of it!
-
They do on the UK one, there was one other really good track, can't remember what it was though. Can anyone hear that Town Talk without hearing Tony Blackburn's dog Arnold barking? (You may have to be a certain age)
-
yeah it was terrible!
-
Quid a week? LOL
-
Original version of Patti Austion - it's brilliant - if I had some dosh I'd have had this off you Keith
-
Remember finding this at a boot sale on Hastings cricket pitch - was a bit embarrassed carrying it around as the front cover is a picture of an arse!
-
Go to forums, then sales, look for the last option which is website and ebay sales, then just paste the url of your ebay sales page in

Think Andy had the one I was selling
-
I had one up for sale on here last year and the general opinion was that it was a pale blue one that had somehow got washed out just leaving white
