  1. Dave the original version of A Man Needs Love is by Nooney Rickett. There's also a version by an unknown artist from a publishers acetate which I posted up years ago.
  2. Sorry don't mean to be perdantic but it's as British as they come, Chris Blackwell produced it, though not sure if it came out as Owen Gray over here, might be credited to The Sound System.
  3. I would, I love it - but I like most records which sound like that - starts off quiet, builds up then hits you with a huge chorus. Agree with you on the Deadbeats and the Q though, second rate garage punk.
  4. I had one about 4 years ago. Never had one before or since.
  5. Fantastic stuff - don't think I've ever heard of this before, looked it up, £500! Are they a Carolinas group, anyone know?
  6. That LP (Payin' Our Dues') is truly fantastic though: Better use your head, Gonna Fix you good, It's not the same, You're not that girl anymore, and what about Call me the joker, shame that was never issued on a 45. Definitely one of the best soul lp's ever.
  7. Thats a really good point actually, anything bootlegged has, in 99% of cases, been a top sound, done the rounds, and should then be retired or bought out at oldies only do's.
  8. IKE NOBLE - WE GOT TO HOLD ON TO OURSELVES - SMOKE anyone know a price for this, seen it at 100 but also at half that anyone want it for a decent offer (mint)

  11. I think one of the best of these type of things was the one on that Mark Radcliffe programme on Granada in the early 90's, they did a very good retro piece but then bought it slap bang up to date by interviewing RS and showing footage of a then current allnighter (Blackburn I think) so if producers weren't so backward looking they could probably get a decent feature done - having said that, if you've only got 3 minutes to discuss Northern Soul on tv, it's inevitable that it will concentrate on it's perceived peak period.
  12. I forgot to bring my stopwatch when I played them.
  13. Have to agree with you Kev.
  14. I love coming home off holiday to uncalled for abuse. No I've never taken gear (because that's SO important to you), I've never been to a Northern Soul event or even bought a Northern record. I know nothing about it whatsoever. You've pulled this one before, 20 years ago you actually wrote to me when I was doing Beatin Rhythm magazine and had a rant about me slagging of The Larks 45. You need to get a life. Go back to writing your sad poems.
  15. Neither would I, but it's a great 60's pop record.
  16. My Mom bought Where Did Our Love Go and Baby Love when they were in the charts in 1964 so I was playing those alongside the Beatles, Elvis and Cilla records. I remember her buying Percy Sledge - When a man loves a woman on the red Atlantic label, she bought it at the same time as A Whiter Shade Of Pale from the 2 shillings box in Selectavision, how the hell do I remember things like that but not what I did yesterday?
  17. Can't see much difference between this and the early sneak previews we got of Soul Boy to be honest, apart from the incredible bias shown by members of the forum. Soul Boy was crap before it was even made, this one was brilliant before it was even made. And now it's even more brilliant because you've seen a minutes worth of footage. Soul Boy wasn't very good, I hope this one will be much better. I personally welcome anything like this film.
  18. This has always bugged me to be honest, I had Dave Hall - Look At Me on an identical label, I'm sure it had the Detroit address though, never knew why Gary Haines had the Nashville one.
  19. The Gary Haines label has a Nashville address.
  20. When I get back off this holiday I'll stick it on a podcast ok
  21. Definitely white, I have some footage of her on American tv. Circa 1964, it might be on youtube
  22. Waiting for missus to get packed...and waiting...
