  1. "the magic shed where records live and breed"
  2. Well I've stopped buying Paul, this is why I was selling all the British this week, to pay of my credit cards. Then again, I"ve always got tons of records, I suppose I could do more. Think you'll enjoy this one.
  3. NEW EPISODE NOW ONLINE Possibly the last episode in this series, this time we're looking at UK 60's 45's, some US imports, and a selection of Ska, Rocksteady and Reggae singles. And I managed not to swear for the entire 54 minutes! Featured... Tap to view this Soul Source News/Article in full
  4. Just a general question really
  5. Well yeah we did attend Wigan every week, thats why I listed ones that I'd only heard there once. Well no I went every 2 weeks in 76, 3 out of every 4 in 77 and every single week in 78 up til august.
  6. are we you may be missing the point, those records were monsters but the topic is records that were played once or twice then forgotten isn't it? Or not. I dunno.
  7. Should be up later, am just editing it now. UK section, ska & reggae section, US imports section. And I think this is the last episode sadly. More news later.
  8. You don't appreciate deadpan comedy when you see it Russ
  9. Some records I only ever remember hearing once at Wigan: john gary - hang on to me john andrews - it's just love jacki bond - why can't i love him prince ella & sidney jones - baby sugar i love you blue chips - tell him barry st john - everything i touch turns to tears probably hundreds more
  10. Put them on a list and call it "crossover"
  11. Play them at OVO nights
  12. It's the same record, not sure why it's on two labels, it got reissued by Charly in the UK in 75 or 76 also.
  13. and I'd like to know how, if you're 50 feet away from the decks, you can tell whether the guy is playing a boot or an original seeing as they sound the same. Oh and if, let's just say for instance, one of the recognised TOP dj's play a boot, do they suddenly become persona non grata? Believe me, I do know how passionately people feel about collecting originals but the aim of Northern Soul nights is primarily to get people to dance to the music being played - isn't it? I know if I danced to one of my favourite records like say John & The Weirdest and it was played off a pressing, I'd just be happy to have heard it, I wouldn't have a hissy fit because it was on the wrong label. That would be just bizarre.
  14. Really enjoyed reading that magazine, especially the Retrospace article
  15. I'm sure there's already a topic about this. Double Barrel is one of THE all time classic reggae singles. This vocal is alright, nothing special. But why would anyone play it at a Northern Soul venue? You can't get more 'reggae' than the combination of producer Winston Riley and keyboard maestro Ansel Collins. It's not soul. Why does this get played, and does it mean anything goes? IF anything, you'd have thought it would be a rocksteady record that gets played seeing as those really are soulful recordings...but this one? Just need someone to explain where it fits in. And this is from the person who was advocating playing some Jamaican music way way back. I'm not slagging off this record, don't get me wrong - when refosoul comes back up, search for this and you'll find it was originally posted up several years ago - actually by me I think.
  16. That was me and I suppose it just shows how disenchanted I've become - I was always one for hearing new sounds. Nowadays, I'd probably spend all night outside drinking and smoking anyway so wouldn't even listen to the music. I've never been a big fan of Led Zepplin though, Bowie/Slade yes.
  17. I honestly didn't see that!
  18. Chalky question 2 really needed another option, would you like to hear a mix of both A and B
  19. This makes sense as it would have been released to cash in on the success of Drift Away
  20. Dunno mate, not got my nerd spectacles on
  21. Thunderbird is actually from the mid 70's I think, when Black Magic almost charted with it.
  22. Can't get used to hearing this after living with the other one for so long. It's the same singer on both of them.
  23. Great, thanks Glyn.
  24. It's posted in the sales section now
