  1. Jeez, I sell it for half that price, wish I hadn't sold the one I had 2 weeks ago now!
  2. Nice that someone takes the time to sas thanks Tabs, thanks.
  3. That's "Soul Symphony" under a different name isn't it?
  4. Right listen, I'm going to upload the full version to divshare and you can download it, I am only going to leave it up for an hour and then I am going to delete it and I am not going to repost it so sorry to anyone who's reading this tonight but you will be able to get a copy from one of the dozen people who've asked me to do it for them. It's now 10 past 3, it will be up til 10 past 4 or less. https://www.divshare.com/download/15964813-9b7
  5. Is this why everyone is asking me for a copy of the mp3? Now you wish you'd all been nice to me don't you (fiendish cackle)
  6. Just played it again - it's bloody fantastic, really brings the horns upfront, if I had the dosh I'd bid on this one
  7. Currently at just over $1000 but the seller thinks it's the issued cut!
  8. Fantastic, and nice of him to put an almost complete download of it on there as well - straight into my itunes and ready for the next podcast
  9. NEW EPISODE NOW ONLINE Possibly the last episode in this series, this time we're looking at UK 60's 45's, some US imports, and a selection of Ska, Rocksteady and Reggae singles. And I managed not to swear for the entire 54 minutes! Featured records include John Dankworth Orchestra, Danny Williams, The Dennisons, Kiki Dee, Marie Knight, Honey Boy Martin, The Uniques, The Ethiopians, Shorty The President, Alton Ellis, The Pageants, Joanie Sommers, Jan Bradley, loads more - 54 minutes running time. All unscripted and unrehearsed as always. Hope you enjoy it. Pete http://vimeo.com/30457104
  10. Never heard it once in 37 years Ian. Apart from at my house.
  11. You're asking the wrong person. I'm not interested in artists. Only records. I've got thousands of records, I'm interested in the history of the record, it's origins, interesting facts about it, anecdotal facts about the artists - but the last thing on my mind would be wanting to actually see the artists. Sorry.
  12. I think it's definitely Wheelsville USA except nobody uses the phrase. Is Freddy Butler - Save your love for me baby - on Wheelsville? Jeezus what a record...bet it was recorded at the same time as Silky Hargraves - Hurt by love, musicians sound idenitcal especially the electric guitar and drum sound
  13. I should have know that
  14. It's never been artist based though, when an artist came on at Wigan, I went in M's to keep the night going. Lots of people did. I wouldn't travel 4 miles to Wolverhampton Civic to see any artist in the world. Not interested, and neither are a lot of people. Sorry but thats the way it is love the records, not interested in any artists.
  15. Anyone got a copy of the above 45 for sale, if so please let me know how much you want for it, it's for a mate cheers pete
  16. Every time I hear the other side of If You Ever Walk Out Of My Life by Dena Barnes, How Am I (You Ought To Know) I think to myself, why wasn't this record bloody massive, it's absolutely fantastic, it's got everything you could want from a Detroit dancer and I'm sure if it hadn't been for it's equally magnificent A side it would have been a huge record. How come this has never made it, anyone ever played it out?

  18. Er, probably the opposite actually LOL
  19. That's just a myth, you danced anywhere you liked, loads of great dancers all over the place. Anyone could walk to the front and dance there, I did it loads of times, but we preferred to stay in our corner bottom left.
  20. I could actually check that as I've got the first 90 minutes of Radio 1's first broadcast, it's absolutely fascinating, especially as we only ever hear the first minute usually
  21. OK well as someone just pointed out to me, the acid test is this: would you play Double Barrel at a Northern Soul do?
  22. Sorry Beeks but he's right, nobody anyway has slagged off the singer, just the playing of reggae in Northern main rooms.
  23. Ah Rich, I knew it couldn't last, I detest roots reggae, and although you may think I'm talking in cliches, I don't like much reggae after 1970 and the reason is very simple: the sound changed. Just like it did with soul music. I love Jamaican R&B, Ska, Rocksteady and early Reggae. It ends for me in late 69 early 70. And of course by 1973, with roots and consciousness taking over, it said nothing to me at all, in fact the only reggae I really liked then was DJ music and a lot of that was using revived tunes to toast over. I always thought it would be great to do a second room which was ska and rocksteady, and they even let me do it at one venue, but after two attempts they turned it into an r&b room (without telling me) so that was the end of that. A year later, maybe two, I believe they did a reggae room at Prestatyn or somewhere like that, since then I know a lot of soulies have got into it, if I'm a little bit responsible for that via my podcasts and whatever, then great, but I still don't want to hear it in a northern room - plus of course, there are several superb 60's reggae nights on most weekends.
