Bill Deal over Carole King and Alpha Zoe over Mary Wells. Interesting. But like you say, IMO
-
Well at least we're not afraid to say so!
-
That is correct. Well the one on my itunes is terrible anyway, I'm presuming it's the 1968 Chess release.
-
No, "a" version, you can't compare that to the original, even if it is half decent..
-
Stay In My Corner is a shocking record!

Saxy Russell - Psychedelic Soul - Who's The Vocalist
Pete S replied to Pete S's topic in Look At Your Box
There's actually a part 3 of this, someone came on here years ago with an acetate of it for sale, different to parts 1 & 2, mainly instrumental, I did record it but it's got lost over time -
Neither did I until it was in a book or a review or something - second single still sounds white though
-
Wow! Happy to stand corrected. What a f*cking record.
-
Actually I think it is blue eyed even though it doesn't sound it - try listening to their 'You are the one I love'
-
Two fantastic choices there from the same production team, they both sound almost identical backing wise as it's the same musicians and arrangers etc, I love both of those.

£200 - £250 demo £300 issue

I've got one you can have for the same price if you want it, EX

Had over 1000 downloads last time, see people posting extracts of it up on youtube, here's the whole thing, well the first half of the tape anyway (I never uploaded the second half) and if you've never listened to this, you're missing a treat, honestly https://podcast912252...T07_21_42-08_00 This is easily the greatest Wigan tape that I possess, when I uploaded it to my podcast site about 8 months ago it had over 1000 downloads so no doubt it'll be all over the place now (I've heard some clips from this tape on youtube), the actual tape is another 30 minutes longer than the extract here. Just go to 28:30 on the recording and listen to the intro of Gloria Jones, anyone who went to Wigan will either get shivers down their spine or tears in their eyes, or in my case, both! Recorded by Al Davison in September 1974. Jonathan Capree Gonna Build Me A Mountain Ox Bow
Pete S replied to snooky's topic in Look At Your Box
It IS crap but not as crap as that Whirlpool record, I think that might be just the worst 'northern soul' record I've ever heard, I had nightmares about it last night, and amazed that someone with decent taste like Chlaky thinks it's half decent If you played that Jonathan Capree record 30 years ago you'd have been laughed at and rightly so. -
Larry Williams & Guitar Watson - Too Late Epic
Pete S replied to viphitman's topic in Look At Your Box
Yes both came out at the same time but they were still making jukebox centred singles hence the two formats, the one with the triangle centre is harder to find -

John there's a very easy way round this problem with the book size: release it as a cd rom. Charge the same price, it weighs nothing, and it can be constantly added to. Yes it can be copied but people would pay for subscription updates. I have a cd database of ska, reggae, called Roots Knotty Roots, it's got like 40,000 entries with matrixes etc.

Jonathan Capree Gonna Build Me A Mountain Ox Bow
Pete S replied to snooky's topic in Look At Your Box
Is that Whirpool meant to be a comedy record? Sounds like Vic Reeves doing the Pub Singer. That's even worse than the JC record. -
David Rhodes - Hung Up In Mid Air - Chi City Value

Looking at old Soul Source sales I found 20 25 30 50 have to admit, I've never seen this before and I've seen most of 'em -
Well if Saxy Russell is playing the wailing sax you can hear on the record, who is it doing the vocals then, cos he can't be doing both at the same time and I doubt it was recorded on multi track!
-
I know this was recorded in 75 and pressed in the late 90's but I can't find many traces of copies for sale, none on popsike, so my inevitable question, how much??
-
