  1. I think thats on my 18th birthday, well the night after, 11-3-78, I've got 45 minutes of that did you say you had the other 45 minutes? That contains the first and then second play ever of Tim Tam. Shocking stuff.
  2. No, it's his missus
  3. That guy who worked on the waltzers who everyone was scared of known as "Dan The Bummer" Remember them giving away copies of The Faces 'Cindy incidentally' and Kim Weston 'I got what you need' as prizes on the stalls.
  4. Paul, after I'm On My Way, Russ actually played it again, I cocked the tape up yesterday though so it's only on once, as the intro for I'm On My Way starts you can hear me say as clear as day "Paul, hold this for us" and the cassette recorder being passed to you so I could, presumably, have a dance.
  5. I used to love the fair because they only used to play reggae, this was in 71, 72 and 73. When the fair came in 74 they only played things like Two Can Have A Party. End of an era for me.
  6. Listen thanks everyone for your comments, this one was an exclusive that I have never podcasted before because for the last few years the tape had stuck and I couldn't get it to play, it was a fantastic night and I'm more than happy to share it. I did have another 90 minutes worth of this night but I lent the tape out to Kim Style's mate from Tonbridge way back in 1988 and never saw it again.
  7. No Vince he just changes his location at will, using almost correct UK addresses. Anyway he got his wish, the reggae ska section has been decimated for a year now and so many people don't sell on there anymore, it's gone from being a great source of 45's to a useless one. I won't sell on there because he ruins every one of my auctions, I won't bid on there because he bumps all the prices up on records I bid on, and unscrupulous sellers don't care.
  8. This record sounds like one of those weedy cover versions you used to get on the 49p Top Of The Pops LP's they used to sell in Woolworths.
  9. The first time I saw it I couldn't believe it, it was as late as 2007 I think, I actually had an original in my box and the chap showed me his copy and asked me what I thought about it, I had the real one in one hand and the counterfeit in the other - I was just shocked that I'd never seen it before. This is the one I described in the previous thread which John Manship didn't know about. Then someone else said they had one - then someone else - then Mick Smith sold one - so they have either been pressed in the 70's and not let onto the market fully, or they were much later pressings. it does 100% exist though.
  10. https://www.mixcloud.com/mayfairmenthol/wigan-casino-4th-anniversary-24977/ A little Christmas present for you lot from me, this is the last 30 minutes of the 4th Anniversary at Wigan casino, 24th September 1977. I taped this from the back left of the room. It's notable for featuring the late Martyn Ellis doing one of his rare Wigan spots, he's the first DJ on, followed by Russ Winstanley ending the night with an awesome, atmospheric 3 Before 8 (well 4 before 8 if you include Gerri Granger). Sound quality is as you would expect from a cheap cassette deck but if you love the Wigan atmosphere you'll enjoy this. All the best, Pete p.s. I may put up a downloadable version of this on podomatic later if I can
  11. I'll give you £40 for the Youth Choir if you don't want to risk it going for £9.99 Dave
  12. Thanks Mick, great explanation.
  13. glad to see you still know f*ck all about Northern Soul Kev
  14. Remember hearing it on the radio and the dj never announced what it was - then read a review of a band who made records totally made up of samples - had to be this one. The main part is from Eddie Drennon - Lets do the latin hustle.
  15. I went over 100 times and the best dancers did not dance at the front of the stage. Otherwise what was I doing there? They might have when it first opened.
  16. I love that track, never seen the video before
  17. Nothing wrong with that tv spot really, apart from the fact that people will now think that Northern Soul is nothing but f*cking acrobatics when that died out 35 years ago. Pete W seems like a good chap.
  18. Can anyone beat this for a mis-pressing ? Dave Edmunds Rockpile - I'm Comin' Home - Regal Zonophone RZ 3032 Same label on both sides for a start! Side 1 actually plays MARVIN GAYE - SAVE THE CHILDREN (Tamla Motown TMG 796) Side 2 actually plays THE CONGREGATION - SOFTLY WHISPERING I LOVE YOU (Columbia 8830)
  19. I agree with you. A joke record. But played as a joke in the first place to be honest.
  20. Where abouts was that shop NIge, I don't remember it. I also had Apples Peaches etc but not as a Northern record as I didn't know what Northern was when I got it
  21. This record is really overpriced by almost anyone who sells it, makes me laugh...
  22. That was a nice read until the ridiculous last sentence. They already got paid when they made the record. Some got paid after that, some didn't. Luck of the draw, and not my responsibility, if anyone wants to pay me for work I did 30 years ago they are welcome.
  23. This one I have here, which I am pretty sure is original, has the words Alice's Pick Hit in the run off, don't think the copy does
  24. Blimey we all have a Cortez Greer for sale today. Not many people realise this was counterfeited as a very very good lookalike
  25. Charlotte O'Hara was Bonnie of Bonnie & The Treasures who had that fantastic Phil Spector produced single Home Of The Brave plus a great solo 45 on Warner Bros, if she's got any solo singles on Preview they would be easy to spot as she has a very distinctive shrill voice
