  1. Just listening to a Gino Washington compilation called Out Of This World and "Like My baby" is on there, big deal, yeah but I've never heard this version before, it's twice as fast as the Do De re / Mala version and has some really powerful drumming behind it. A totally different version. Is everyone aware of this version, and is it on a 45?
  2. Thanks Nev, just came on my itunes DJ, just title and artist...great stuff, thanks
  3. Was this released as a single anyone?
  4. Okay this is true: this came out when a lot of people my age were just discovering Northrn Soul and not knowing about originals version. I bought this (I was told it had a great B side as well, Northern Soul Dancer ) as did loads of kids at our youth club, I disticntly remember an older guy from Wolverhampton coming down and bringing an Out Of The Past copy of The Invitations with him for our dj to play, I just couldn't believe it when I heard it, same as I couldn't believe how fantastic the original version of Going To A Go Go was compared the The Sharonettes The killer though was that a lot of people were playing a terrible version of Girl Don't Make Me Wait by Bo Donaldson & The heywoods, this one tuesday disco some guys from St Giles' in Willenhall bought the original Bunny Sigler version down to play and I think that was the end of us buying crap tailor mades and it was, for a 14/15 year old, part of an education. But I won't stand here and say "no, I did not buy Wigans Ovation or Footsee or Javells", because I did.
  5. What was it mate, it might not get paid for!
  6. Not just you Steve, three people in a week, very unusual.
  7. If you mean me I am genuinely flattered! If you don't, I'll just pretend you did
  8. Please please can people check availability with me before they send any money, thanks.
  9. Tamla Motown demo prices are totally unpredictable - if I was set-saleing that I'd ask £125 I think, on Ebay it may go for double that price. Also a lot of dealers would probably stick £200 on it.

  11. Does my head in, time and time again, the way people like yourself and Russ just can't accept that people don't like the same things as you. Especially when it's this emperors new clothes sort of thing that probably only 50 people on the entire Northern scene would admit to liking. If I told you Wayne Gibson's Under My Thumb was f*cking brilliant and you said no it's not, is that a cue for me to stereotype you with daft comments about taking bets on your reaction? Why do you feel like you have to do it, if the records good enough it'll speak for itself won't it?
  12. I've got this and I didn't think it was even worth listing on the LP list I put together at the weekend, it's a good album but not rare, now that it's sold for £246 I'll put it out at £24.60 just to show how ridiculous that price is. And I wil do it, so someone look out for the bargain of the century
  13. Nige I wasn't acid tongued when I said it was not very good, it just isn't very good and I said so in a fairly downbeat manner!
  14. Good choice!
  15. Saw one last night in our village on a huge 4 x 4, number plate N 2OUL, anyone know who's that is?
  16. Poor version that. Better arrangement than LJB though. n.b. lots of people bought a Kenny Lynch track called The Drifter after someone said it was the same song, it's not
  17. Sorry, I just can't believe that. His own record label didn't supply him with a copy of a single that he recorded both sides of 6 months later? What, they gave him 2 publishers acetates of the separate sides?
  18. That's almost 100% a tall tale, Ray Pollard's version came out before Baldry's, on the same label as Baldry's, and Baldry not only covered The Drifter, but also it's B side as well, Let Him Go. They obviously got a copy of the Ray Pollard single.
  19. I know this topic is 8 years old but Mike, can you remember who it was who had the original acetate? because Mick Smith's had it for years, did he buy it off your mate maybe? I was listening to it 5 minutes ago and it's a really good version, it's better than Long John Baldry's version by a mile.
  20. Ah sod it, I'll just leave it, it's not gonna make a lot of difference anyway and it certainly doesn't affect the sound quality, I just really miss my beautiful mint copy which I sold to Nige Brown a couple of years back, I'd managed to hold on to it while selling every other decent record I owned then one day I ran out of decent records to sell - hence my delight in getting this copy, cheap!
  21. No, sorry, didn't mean fresh residue, like you say, it's probably been on there for 30 odd years
  22. Sorry Russ, I'd have to go along with that actually it's not that good, on hearing it just this one time, I know I'll have totally forgotten it within 2 minutes...pedestrian soul-rock, like a poor man's World Column or Manifesto. But thats just me...
