Brilliant selection!
-
Haven't got a copy of it! It's Beatin Rhythm issue 14 or 15 I think.
-
You're right, nothing to do with a drinks advert, I had a superb interview recorded with Popcorn Wylie where he talks about this, I think I may have actually transcribed it in one of my magazines, anyway I lent it to Tim Brown 18 years ago and it never saw the light of day again
-
No Richard I was going by "F*cking fantastic record" content rather than "lacklustre vocal version" content
-
That doesn't even enter in it for me where Northern Soul is concerned - Cool Off is a better Northern Soul record in my opinion. Pointless saying (to me) that because it's got proper lyrics it's therefore a proper song and is more soulful because, as you know, I don't base my favourite records on whether they are soulful or not, otherwise Joannie Sommers, Cajun Hart, Dean Parrish and Chapter Five wouldn't be in my top 30. I like what I like the sound of, I don't give it some kind of soul test first Rich. I give you Georgie Fame
-
I'd actually contest that Mighty Lover is a better song than Cool Off, it's lyrics are rubbish
-
Don't know if this is of any interest or use to anyone but here is a discoraphy that I compiled of all soul releases on the Australian CBS label. It includes blue eyed Northern as well. Nothing earth shattering here but Carl Carlton "Competition" sounds nice on an Aussie CBS copy. So of those who expressed a preference, Cool Off wins by 7 votes to 5. I bet the people who voted for Mighty Lover probably rate If It's All The Same To You Babe higher than Exus Trek as well.

Articles: Helen Pereira - Queen Of The Go-Go
Pete S replied to Pep's topic in Front Page News & Articles
Thanks mate, I know that one lasting memory that I and others have is of that time at the Locarno when I split my nose open when I pulled the roller towel holder off the wall and into my face somehow: Helen grabs me, my nose pouring with blood, says she's going to sort it out for me, all she could get her hands on was a giant plaster about 6" long so she stopped it bleeding and stuck this plaster across my nose and half my face, I was like a proto-type Adam Ant with this giant sticking plaster covering me, she did her best considering the tools at hand - and also gave everyone a laugh for days. I got it stitched next day at the Royal but in all seriousness it could have been much worse had it not been for Nurse Helen. And that's what I mean about her looking out for us. -
Cool Off by a million miles. Never forget the first time I heard this, played by Pep, I thought it was terrible, within 2 weeks of hearing it had got into my head and it was my top want and within 4 weeks I'd secured an emidisc of it on my first trip to Wigan. Still a big big favourite of mine. The other version is ok.

That was beautiful Ian. Helen always looked out for me, as she did all of the young uns. My first memory of her is of her getting you to play KIll That Roach by Miami at Sammies (St Giles) and she being the only person on the dancefloor and not giving a monkeys, and me thinking WHO IS THIS? Myself, Tom, Jaga, Andy etc will all be there on the 26th to pay our respects. Much love Pete Smith -
Surely some mistake? The Fury label would have stopped trading before that record was released, wouldn't it?
-
It's that 2 shared website thats the problem, right in the middle of the page is a link saying 'download' which takes you to a totally unrelated page to download some crap program, so people are a bit wary of those sort of sites
-
Yep there's barely any bass on it. Terrible recording.
-
Again, agree with this. Though the VS has been done four or five times. The first one, on the white label with the swirl, is perfect. I think the red one is ok too. Maybe the one sided blue one is the bad one.
-
Have a read of the description of this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NORTHERN-SOUL-ATLAS-RECORDS-1257-DANNY-WHITE-KEEP-MY-WOMAN-HOME-/270951188237?pt=UK_Records&hash=item3f15f3070d#ht_728wt_1398 it has some very light "airlines"
-
It is slightly faster than it should be (Johnny Hendley) But like you say, the Lenny Curtis press on End, is perfect.

The Story Behind Lou Ragland's "i Travel Alone"
Pete S replied to Roburt's topic in Look At Your Box
You're right, I've seen an interview with Lou Ragland where he says that...or did he say they were inspired by that...
