  1. Soundcloud's f*cking useless, I tried putting a podcast on there earlier this week and they said I had to have copyright for every track!
  2. Does yours play at 33 rpm as well - suppose it must do. But both sides of President on Green Door play at 45.
  3. LOST VINYL GEMS OF THE 60's first update of the week, mainly reggae but one or two interesting things, reviews of most and also sound clip links too. 4. Thats what I said, I never heard it anywhere, in fact I think I first heard it on a tape I got off Rich Simner? Had Heartache Souvenirs on same tape when it was covered up.
  5. I sold my own copy last year, maybe 18 months ago, for £25. It's "on record". In fact i think I sold Alan Poillard's old copy about a year back as well, same price.
  6. It was super-common until a few years back Bob, all of the Mutt stuff was mass imported here (except for Dusty Wilson), Anglo had thousands of them, this was a staple of their list for years, you could even find them locally. Of course it's not common now because people have been told it's good/rare, so like sheep, they all want one.
  7. Spent years as a £5 - £10 job. I'd have thought £40 now. Great record, first had this in 1981 or 82, no idea if it was ever played anywhere, just loved it.
  8. Very rare I get excited about a record arriving mate, sorry. But about your Arabians that you're waiting for; about 3 years ago, I was on the net browsing a UK pop site and they had a few Northern reissues at £5 each, then I spotted The Arabians, also £5, so I thought it was probably a mistake but I bought it anyway. 3 days later, a rare yellow issue copy of Please Take A Chance On Me arrived. It honestly cost me £5. Bit like the time I bought Dickie Wonder for £10 because the website selling it had it down as a reissue on Golden Triangle.
  9. This is the worst topic ever....
  10. I'd say way lower than that. I sold 2 about 6 months ago. £50 and £60. That's a sensible price.
  11. These records were all spun on the Northern Soul scene, mainly between 1975 and 77, and the interesting thing is that back then, I didn't separate these from the 60's tunes, it was all Northern Soul. Somewhere along the way, lines became drawn and suddenly we had Modern Soul and much later, Crossover, but these uptempo 70's dancers will always have strong connections to some great days on the Northern Soul scene. I was never a Blackpool Mecca attendee but every one of these tracks was played at Wigan and most at Cleethorpes and probably places like The Ritz too. Anyway, great memories and to my surprise, one of the most enjoyable podcasts I've ever done! https://www.mixcloud.com/mayfairmenthol/lets-all-have-a-disco/ CREATIVE SOURCE - DON'T BE AFRAID (TAKE MY LOVE) - POLYDOR DOOLEY SILVERSPOON - GAME PLAYERS - SEVILLE EAST COAST CONNECTION - SUMMER IN THE PARKS - NEW DIRECTIONS AQUARIAN DREAM - PHOENIX - BUDDAH BRAINSTORM - WAKE UP AND BE SOMEBODY - TABU VICKI SUE ROBINSON - TURN THE BEAT AROUND - RCA LENNY WILLIAMS - CHOOSING YOU - ABC MOMENTS - NINE TIMES - STANG WILL COLLINS & WILLPOWER - IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO - BAREBACK RIMSHOTS - DO WHAT YOU FEEL - STANG JAMES BYNUM - TIME PASSES BY - PHILLY CITY CAMEO - FIND MY WAY - CHOCOLATE CITY FAT LARRY'S BAND - CENTER CITY - WMOT BATAAN - THE BOTTLE (LA BOTELLA) - RCA D.C. 12. I'll mix this lot and put it out as a podcast later
  13. Practically all of them come from the 1975 to 78 period but Phyllis Hyman may be 79?
  14. Also, something else I learned today, Don't Be Afraid Take My LOve by Creative Source...I thought the vocalist was a falsetto male! It's a female. Did everyone know that? Was there a USA single of this track? ?
  15. Well the question was what was the first 12" single so it's going to have been an American one...
  16. Found this on wikipedia The first very first 12" single was released in 1973 by soul/R&B musician/songwriter/producer Jerry Williams, Jr. aka Swamp Dogg. 12" promotional copies of "Straight From My Heart" were released on his own Swamp Dogg Presents label (Swamp Dogg Presents #501/SDP-SD01, 33¢..." r.p.m.) with distribution by Jamie/Guyden Distribution Corporation. It was manufactured by Jamie Record Co. of Philadelphia PA. The B-side of the record is blank. The first official promotional 12" single was Southshore Commissions' "Free Man". At first, these special versions were only available as promotional copies to DJs. Examples of these promos, released at almost the same time in 1975 are, GARY TOMS EMPIRE - "Drive My Car", DON DOWNING - "Dream World", BARRABAS - "Mellow Blow", THE TRAMMPS - "Hooked for Life", ACE SPECTRUM - "Keep Holdin' On", SOUTH SHORE COMMISSION - "Train Called Freedom", THE CHEQUERS - "Undecided Love", ERNIE RUSH - "Breakaway", RALPH CARTER - "When You're Young and in Love", Michael ZAGER & The Moon Band Feat. Peabo BRYSON - "Do It With Feeling", MONDAY AFTER - "Merry-Go-Round", THE RITCHIE FAMILY - "I Want To Dance" and FRANKIE VALLI - "Swearin' to God". By 1976, with the release of "Ten Percent" by Double Exposure on Salsoul Records, the new format was sold to the general public. The second song found on a 12" single is "Love to Love You Baby" by Donna Summer, released in 1976. This song was originally a full side of her North American debut release, but released again in early 1977 backed with "Try Me, I Know We Can Make It", on the Oasis/Casablanca label.
  17. Ah no mate, the difference is that I used to like most of these records when I was in my teens, as opposed to the other 300 or so modern soul records I am currently listing which I would only listen to if I was clinically insane.
  18. Sure mate, will see what I can do. Carthedrals actually reminds me of Pep's shop, it was one of the very first 12" to come out (along with Salsoul 3001) and I remember it playing in the shop and it went on forever and ever and the general consensus was that they'd never catch on!
  19. Ian, after about 5 records my missus came in and asked me if I was alright and was I doing a cd for someone's disco party I also discovered that DC Larue must be the luckiest man to get a recording contract, he sings so flat! Some other records I had lined up but didn't fit on the cd were T Connection - On fire (too dirty and couldn't be bothered to clean it) Al Wilson - Show and tell (too slow) Bill Harris - Uptown saturday night (horrible) The Magic Band - Falbala (unspeakably terrible) Valentine Brothers - MOneys too tight (dreadful drum sound) Norma Jenkins - Can you imagine that (record jumped) Brother To Brother - In the bottle (warped) Temprees - At Last (utter rubbish)
  20. I was just doing a truly gigantic sales list of Modern Soul records, all sorts, and I thought I'd play a couple, ones I remembered from mainly the 76-77 period. Nothing rare, just stuff we used to dance to. You know what, I can't remember the last time I enjoyed listening to music so much, I hadn't heard most of these for 30 odd years (apart from the chart hits) and I think Party Freaks by Miami might be one of the greatest records ever made! I must have had 10 copies of that over the years and never played it once. Same with lenny Williams - Choosing You, had loads, never played it. Center City by Fat Larrys Band, I remembered every single word of it. I am going to have to turn this into a podcast. If anyone has the number of a good psychiatrist, let me know. 21. I don't think he's received it yet mate, not sure
  22. I'm more than suspicious. Look at the matrix number on the label, scratched out and penned in. The A and B sides usually have consecutive numbers, this has them miles apart, and for Jean Carter these numbers would definitely have been consecutive. Anyone ever seen that Pogo Productions logo before?
