It was, well it was manufactured and distributed by them. I've got the rare Blossom Toes album on Marmalade. Shame it's knackered. Not that much to get excited about though really, one or two things on Toast though.
-
Also played at The Cats....apparently.
-
I like the fact that Toast's sister label was called Marmalade (no, it really was...)
-
Yeah good label, three or four decent releases, part of Transatlantic Records
-
Oh God don't me started on this subject. I've been writing about it for 25 years The Carnival label that The Manhattans came out on is not the same as other Carnival label which released records by Sugar & Dandy etc. The latter was a London based indie. I think the Manhattans Carnival label came via Philips/Polydor and only had 2 releases. People can find that single and 250 others featured on my website https://lostvinylgemsofthe60s.blogspot.co.uk/ Some other interesting UK indies worth looking at: React, a striking looking label with a couple of decent Mod releases Strike, ran for 2 years, couple of biggish hits, 3 or 4 good soul/northern tracks to look for Venus - a very interesting label distributed by Rio Records which only released Jamaican soul / r&b, I've found 4 or 5 releases Go - couple of Carl Douglas releases, Samantha Juste pop stomper, some good freakbeat/psych Salvo - super obscure label can't even work out what their speciality was despite having a discography, only released 99 copies of each single, distributed by "Emperor Records" never heard of them! SnB - Simon Napier Bell's label, one Northern 45 several good pop and psych things Plexium - one big Northern rarity and a couple of very rare psych things Alp - mainly Scottish beat via Polydor, one Northern dancer Airborne - couple of interesting singles, Joyce Bond and Johnny McBee Purdah - Mike Vernon blues label pre-Blue Horizon issuing just 99 copies of each single actually best not linger on this or I will be here all year, ought to do some work!
-
It is superb - it's an absolute Northern belter and Neil Rushton wrote in his book that at one point, it was the biggest sound in the country and people would travel just to hear it. It's got just about everything. Actually pretty rare on it's first Philips issue too.
-
Tim there is an ABC bootleg from about 10 years back with some other artist on the B side (Trends?) which you should be able to find cheaply and easily. It's just the 1977 counterfeit which remains very hard to find.
-
He wants the Yum Yums though not The Sapphires
-
Yes, as I mentioned above Dave - ABC counterfeit pressed in 1977 at the same time as Eddie Regan. I've turned down £200 for mine. Seriously.

Pioneers Of Northern Soul On The Radio Back Then
Pete S replied to Sjclement's topic in All About the SOUL
Even before that, I have a Rosko show from 1969 where he plays the (then deleted) Just A Little Misunderstanding and introduces it as "the biggest discotheque record of the moment". I've got stacks of Mike Raven shows on reel to reel. -
So true. Especially 'bargains'.
-
You'll look for a long time then Tim cos it was never issued with Eddie Regan on the other side... ABC counterfeit, looks superb, pressed in 1977 and at exactly the same time, Eddie Regan done. The Sapphires issued with Eddie Regan on B side, UK ABC

So it's not even gone into production yet then, according to the article re. Steve Coogan? I saw some footage as described by Chris above, where was that from then? -

Yep Pepsi is their most collectable track apart from the useless Skinhead Shuffle. That one above might sell for £50 on strength of the name but I doubt it.
-
Didn't as far as I know - there's thousands of this sort of record, collectors only, never got spins. I may be wrong. Price, no idea, I don't rate any of the Mohawks records but I know some people love them for the breaks etc. Dave Kilworth will know.
-
I've got the original Landsdowne Studios acetate of this which I will be happy to sell if I don't take any money from elsewhere today!
-
Snap, except it's not just the weekend..

Just an update on this, after he sent me the original email which I mentioned above, I replied saying that I would be contacting ebay and his reply was "Dear boy, I am 71 years old and have a terminal illness, what do you think Ebay can do to me"? So I replied that they spend enough time chasing non paying buyers, what about non selling sellers? No reply. Since then I have had four or five reminders asking me to pay for the record, eventually I rang Ebay on thursday, told them what happened, they checked the correspondence etc and said they would send a note to the seller advising him he is in breach of their rules regarding selling, and not to worry about it. This morning they opened a non paying buyer case against me

There's much worse instrumentals been played than this one. -
