Yes the single is different to the versions that first Kent and then Charly put out on compilations. I also got a jolt first time I heard it.

You don't need permission for anything, just go and play it! But if you have to have original vinyl, something like Yvonne Baker on London is in my opinion a reissue as it was released only because of demand from the Northern scene. 90% of 70's Northern releases were either reissues of tracks already released here in the 60's, or issued because of Northern demand. I wouldn't play any at an OVO night unless they were original 60's issues or proper rare 70's like Jon Ford, Ray Merrell.

No I liked all that stuff at the time mate. And still do. Did you not hear that podcast I did the other week, old favourites from that period.. These records were all spun on the Northern Soul scene, mainly between 1975 and 77, and the interesting thing is that back then, I didn't separate these from the 60's tunes, it was all Northern Soul. Somewhere along the way, lines became drawn and suddenly we had Modern Soul and much later, Crossover, but these uptempo 70's dancers will always have strong connections to some great days on the Northern Soul scene. I was never a Blackpool Mecca attendee but every one of these tracks was played at Wigan and most at Cleethorpes and probably places like The Ritz too. That Memphis Nomads record is something to do with "The march of dimes" whatever that is. I've had a couple, no interest in them.

In Noddy Holder's biography he explains about how they (The In Betweens) got a booking for a season in the Bahamas, supporting a girl group from Florida called The Twans. I recently watched his "This is your life" from the mid 90's and he repeats the story (but doesn't name the group) just that they were pleasantly surprised when they got there.

Her daughter told me she passed away a few years back. And she'd never received a penny in royalties from any company reissuing the record on cd. But she didn't appear to know or want to know about how to try and claim royalties anyway.
