  1. People collect records for different reasons. Some might collect a label, and have to buy inferior releases on that label that they will never even play, in order to get the set. So records aren't always bought to be played. As I mentioned a few weeks back, I'd never consider buying a UK label record which has had it's middle knocked out. Horses for courses. As for the Valentinos - I rate it as one of the best Northern records ever, but I'd rather have a £10 pressing to play than an original with writing on the label.
  2. Are you talking about Ian Levine?

  4. It would, and I'd bid on it except everything about the ad is terrible, the title, the description, the photo, and you'd imagine he's never packed a record before either!
  5. Oops yes that might help https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/music-7-vinyl-/320925090328?pt=UK_Records&hash=item4ab8a04218#ht_500wt_1415 the writing on the feedback is identical to that on the listing, all lower case, what a mug
  6. Sorry this isn't a soul 45 but might be worth a look at, it sold last week for £51 but is up for sale again now starting at £50, same copy, same scan Yet feedback was left for the first one, by a bidder with zero feedback, for a seller with zero feedback. Surely this is the seller bidding on his own record under a second username and leaving feedback for himself?
  7. Gene I think both might have been released to cash in on Kiki Dee having a little success on Elton John's Rocket label in 73/74. Though the MFP one might have already been planned as part of their big Motown reissue series.
  8. Sorry Tone, didn't know you had any mates no but seriously, when I first heard this, absolutely totally unknown and the chap who had it collected beat, so as a swap I actually gave him The Craig on Fontana for it you can have my demo when I sell it in a few weeks though if you want it
  9. Please note now reduced to £190
  10. I'm not going to reply by putting three nodding smileys but you're a deaf c*** oops
  11. 1977 legal reissue, someone must have had their finger on the pulse there because they also reissued Susan Farrar on the same label after only about 4 weeks of plays. Also Chalfontes previously.
  12. Have to agree with you here Dave, Doug Banks, briliant record with that fantastic dramatic intro...
  13. Good find Ian, I absolutely loved the French Fries and I still do, one of these days I'll post up a Wigan tape I recorded off the balcony and when this comes on you should hear the feet stomping to it, so loud you think it's clapping!
  14. I think Dora Hall had very minor plays. The Anita Bryant, I've never heard played out, but it would only be played as an "ender" anyway. As the person who was responsible for introducing the general public to this record, I take all the blame. Patti Page was definitely played as a cheaper alternative to the Teddy Randazzo version. But it's never about the artist, it's about what comes out of the grooves, otherwise Northern Soul would have no Dana Valery, Rufus Lumley etc.
  15. Every copy has that. My most abiding memory of this is buying two copies from the record bar at Wigan, about two months apart, both were £8 each, ah those were the days.
  16. A remarkably similar topic I did a few months back slagging off the same records... /forums/topic/226185-the-records-that-nobody-likes/page__hl__%20records%20%20nobody%20%20likes
  17. There are just too many to pick one.
  18. There's a lot of "legends" made come backs over the last 15 years, Ian Levine, John Vincent two name two, would they ever dream of playing off cd's because their "legendary status" gives them a free pass of some sort? Of course they wouldn't. What's the point of booking anyone playing Northern oldies off cd's, at least go to the effort of borrowing the records off someone else.
  19. That made you gobsmacked because...it was so bad???
  20. I'd rather hear my little boy farting in the bath than listen to a great jazz or modern soul set so it works both ways...what on earth is wrong with someone playing a rare soul set off original 45's, that is what the scene is built on!
  21. What about MSJ's - Memory Stick Jockeys
  22. All the top dj's played Rain because it was catchy and great to dance to. I'd still play it now, great record.
  23. Maybe Modern Soul dj's should now be known as CDDJ's? After all DJ stands for DISC Jockey. Then there'd be no confusion.
