  2. What's he meant to do, play them to a panel of judges first? Someone's got to be brave enough to go with their instincts haven't they?
  3. I know they are the first issue but a blank label is a blank label - thats why I compared it to a carver - black vinyl, white label. As opposed to a labelled copy. Wasn't saying they weren't the originals, I know what they are, I've got enough of 'em.
  4. That's a rare one, came out on UK too. Fortunately I still have a copy of this one.
  5. It would. F*cking hell am I kicking myself, about 2 years ago I GAVE AWAY the Jamaican blank of this to Brian Kelson, he bought a box of British off me and I said oh, there's about 20 blanks in that bag, you might as well have them...I didn't realise Love Kiss Blue sounds like an instrumental version of The Hamlins - I Don't Care At All. By the way, I can't see why anyone would pay that money for a blank, may as well wait for a labelled Doctor Bird one to come up.

  7. Agree, I think that's because a lot of the UK releases were dubbed directly off Jamaican vinyl copies.
  8. Yes he does, though pre's usually describe later releases I think (mid 70's onwards)
  9. As John says above, they're the equivalent of promo copies really. I'm a bit split over Jamaican or UK blanks though, I'd much sooner have a labelled copy and I can't see a lot of difference between a blank and a carver. From experience, the majority of blanks that come onto the market are always very well used.
  10. This is a proud moment for me.
  11. If he spells it Rood it's a mistake on the label!
  12. Very rare and very expensive that one. Never had it myself. I believe I had the first copy of Gloria though (no worries if I stand corrected on that), sold it for £300 a long long time ago, I'd say it's actually worth less than that now.
  13. Folks I am closing down the current site where the episodes of Lost Vinyl Gems are stored and am going to transfer them to YouTube instead. I will do all of them eventually and post the new links here, just done one so far. Episode 7. There won't be any more new episodes.
  14. How the f*ck should I know, I read it on someone else's post.
  15. I thought he said "they do have a place" not "do they have a place" I'll read it properly next time.
  16. What was wrong with his statement, can't see anything condescending at all, he says all should be able to advertise whatever type of do they promote.
  17. On the Right To Reply thread, someone said why does the Modern scene always hang on the coat tails of the Northern Soul scene. Well?
  18. This is true, the original aim of the thread was to try and pick a record which was played but nobody appeared to like it at the time or even now. Something like "Take a letter Maria" by Boots Randolph for instance.
  19. Doug Banks has a lot more going for it than the likes of Soft Walkin, Let me be your boy, Emperor and all those similar things - much nearer "Northern Soul".
  20. I've said it before and I'll say it again. TOO MANY DJ'S Once upon a time there were a handful of DJ's with their fingers on the pulse, you would travel just to hear an exclusive record from one of these dj's. Nowadays, everyone is a dj, if they haven't got that rare original 45 they can play it from a different format. Sounds aren't difficult to hear now - you don't have to travel to hear them - which is why there are so many local nights, and so many venues playing exactly the same records. The scene has to split now. DJ's playing new discoveries and rarities from original vinyl, and the rest, which include club nights, motown do's, nostalgia events, oldies nights. There's nothing wrong with the latter, but it's not what Northern Soul used to be about. also take into account the age of the average punter, running around the country was great back when we were 18, but now, in our 50's, it's way easier to go 5 miles up the road to an oldies night for a beer and a chat than it is to plan your weekend around a saturday night spent 150 miles away from home. And then there's the "interest" factor, people have much more to do nowadays than base their lives around music. So there are lots of things to factor in, one things for certain, it's not going to die but it may need a bit of resuscitation from time to time.
  21. Can't see why it's credited to QCSB and if it's the (Razors Edge) vocal it's worth £10...
  22. Essential Modern Soul. A misnomer if ever there was one
  23. I see no difference between a "badly photocopied label" and an original which has been defaced. Valentinos sound quality is perfect on the pressing. What are all these "badly photocopied label" bootlegs anyway?
