Funky Soul
Some people on here really ought to listen to themselves, another post which is an utter joke. Paul promoted one of the best Northern Soul nights in London "These Old Shoes" and was resident DJ there so for you to say he doesn't know how a record might or might not go down in a club is disgraceul to be honest. Or do they have to pass some sort of committee vote from a panel made up of people on the "cutting edge" of the Northern scene, which is obviously what you lot posting this funky shit think you are.

I Wish Bootleggers Would F*ck Off
Not unless someone was making them to order and selling them, or getting quantities of same title bootlegs and selling them like they do on ebay

Kenny Bernard - What Love Brings - Uk Pye Issue
2nd issue says Disco Demand on it and looks nothing like the 60's Pye label, as Dave says, classic red label.

Talking About Jackie Edwards 45's
Giz a chance, it's got to get here first LOL I got that one and also a Wirl copy of Keep On Running, do you need that? Paul I"ve never seen a Jamaican copy of Come On Home / I Don't Know so how I'm gonna price that one may be down to guesswork!

Funky Soul
So if they're so great with their own brilliant scene, why are they still hanging onto the Northern scene then? That's what Toad was saying. It's a laugh Nev, I don't mean that nastily, but you and Russ going on as if there's hundreds of venues playing this funky stuff, out of a thousand venues probably only 20 are playing it, the other 980 aren't interested in the slightest - yet it's THEM who are in the wrong...
-
Funky Soul
This is another point I absolutely agree with.
-
Funky Soul
You don't have to hear it at a venue Russ, Steve G in the weekender thread says that most of the stuff posted up in this thread is second rate, and he knows more about it than me, I can only comment on whats in front of me and if I don't like it I will bloody well say so and just because someone danced to it once it doesn't make it any better. I remember hundreds of people dancing to My hearts symphony but it's still sh*t.

Weekenders....is There A Demand For A Rare Soul Weekender?
But they keep telling me they're the best thing since sliced bread and slagging me off for not agreeing with them

Don't silly comment me, it was utter sh*t. I can think for myself.

Two people also said the same thing as me above Nev - that in the 70's, Southern meant slow, Northern meant fast - not always, but mostly. Bit perterbed that you think I wouldn't know that labels like the Backbeat set up, Goldwax, people like Lou Pride etc came from the South though. I do actually know quite a bit about music
-
Funky Soul
Thanks for patronising me Nev however if you were a bit older you'd understand that this was how the press diifferentiated the types of soul, generally Southern meant slow, Northern meant fast. For f*cks sake.

Funky Soul
OK sorry I'll explain what I mean, Roburt said that on his night out he'd like to hear disco, southern soul and so on, as long as it was soulful, I think we're at cross purposes because I am talking exclusively about Northern Soul nights and I wouldn't want to hear ballads etc at a Northern Soul night.

Funky Soul
Are you kidding, it was, in just as big a quantity at Wigan, do a bit of reasearch! For a start, one of the biggest record ever, You're Ready Now - FRankie Valli.
-
Funky Soul
I'm talking about it in the old definition, slow ballad soul. You knew that.
-
Funky Soul
Bob I wasn't talking bout the Specials I was talking about the other version of I Really Love You
-
Funky Soul
Anyone who wants to hear southern soul and blaxploitation at a Northern Soul night hasn't got a clue. Ballads next? Apologies, I've edited my first reply but I'm so angry I'm going to bed.

Just found this, wonder what you think, nothing special but quite pleasant and incredibly obscure...presume from about 1963 https://www.divshare.com/download/18703782-0d1

Callum said it had been filling floors - that's the stampede of people trying to get out when it comes on
-
Funky Soul
That's just so generic though, as I said, there are thousands of records that sound like this, bog standard boring uptempo funky 70's records, if this is the future of Northern Soul then God help us. That one is a waste of good vinyl.

Talking About Jackie Edwards 45's
I just picked up a Jamaican Wirl copy of "Come On Home" and you'll never guess what's on the other side: "I Don't Know" is! I'll start accepting offers now :-)
