  1. How should I have worded it?
  2. It may not surprise you to learn then that the original To The Ends Of The Earth was done by Nat King Cole...
  3. Don't know if you remember when I originally did this in 2008, it was pretty well received as I added old radio jingles and countdowns etc, anyway I thought they were all lost but I found them earlier on a site called Podbean, anyway I thought I may as well upload them to mixcloud over the next few days, it's not meant to be serious so no point analysing it, it's just to listen to... https://www.mixcloud....time-100-to-81/ IT GETS LONELY SITTING HERE AT HOME GAZING OUT OF THE WINDOW SO TO KILL SOME TIME I DECIDED TO GET ALL MY OLD FAVOURITE RECORDS OUT AND SEE IF I COULD PUT THEM IN SOME ORDER OF FAVOURITISM. OBVIOUSLY THIS IS A VERY DIFFICULT TASK AS THERE ARE SO MANY ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT NORTHERN SOUL RECORDS TO CHOOSE FROM - BUT I'VE HAD A GO AND COME UP WITH A TOP 100. ANYWAY, I THOUGHT I COULD TURN THESE INTO A 4 OR 5 EPISODE SERIES OF PODCASTS AND IT MIGHT BE FUN FOR PEOPLE TO LISTEN IN AND MAYBE GUESS WHAT'S COMING NEXT, WHAT'S IN THE TOP 10, AND HOW SHIT MY TASTE IN MUSIC IS. SO I DID IT, AND THE FIRST 20 TRACKS ARE NOW AVAILABLE TO LISTEN TO AS A PODCAST. REMEMBER, IT'S JUST A BIT OF FUN, THEY ARE JUST MY FAVOURITE RECORDS, IT'S NOT MEANT TO BE SOME KIND OF OFFICIAL CHART! I ALSO ADDED A FEW 60'S RADIO JINGLES AND COUNTDOWN NUMBERS TOWARDS THE END. PLEASE, ENJOY! NUMBERS 100 TO 81 (p.s. I only used records I had on vinyl at the time, no cd tracks etc so loads were missed out) 100 RAY CHARLES - I DON'T NEED NO DOCTOR (ABC) 99 RITA & THE TIARAS - GONE WITH THE WIND IS MY LOVE (DORE) 98 STEMMONS EXPRESS - WOMAN LOVE THIEF (KARMA) 97 LESLIE UGGAMS - DON'T YOU EVEN CARE (ATLANTIC) 96 SOUL BROTHERS INC. - PYRAMID (GOLDEN EYE) 95 REPARATA & THE DELRONS - PANIC (MALA) 94 SAXIE RUSSELL - PSYCHEDELIC SOUL (THOMAS) 93 MARION STEWART - I MUST BE LOSING YOU (R RECORDS) 92 TOBI LEGEND - TIME WILL PASS YOU BY (MALA) 91 RUFUS LUMLEY - STRONGER THAN ME (RCA) 90 JOE JAMA - MY LIFE (OPTIMUM) 89 POOKIE HUDSON - THIS GETS TO ME (JAMIE) 88 THE HIGH KEYS - LIVING A LIE (VERVE) 87 THE EMBERS - WATCH OUT GIRL (MGM) 86 CHECKERBOARD SQUARES - DOUBLE COOKIN' (VILLA) 85 THE DYNAMICS - I NEED YOUR LOVE (RCA) 84 COURT DAVIS - TRY TO THINK WHAT YOU'RE DOING (EAST COAST) 83 LILLIE BRYANT - MEET ME HALFWAY (TAY-STER) 82 EMANUEL LASKEY - I'M A PEACE LOVING MAN (THELMA) 81 EDDIE DAY & THE FOUR BARS - GUESS WHO LOVES YOU (SHRINE)
  4. Ah come on, Ends Of The Earth is utter brilliance, dramatic production, fantastic record...Paris Blues is good...the one by him that sounds like the Pub Singer is "My Home Town"
  5. Yeah and I love Exus Trek but can't stand the vocal!
  6. They obviously don't know the score Chalky because they can't be bothered to read it or they do know but just can't be bothered to follow the protocol as they think it doesn't apply to them. It's not like this is a new rule that's just been bought in, it's been nearly five years since it was implemented. No matter how many times you point it out, it carries on. When I was moderating the sales section I got so fed up of asking people to do this that I just went in, edited their post and locked it. And before anyone starts moaning and asking what the fuss is all about, constant bumping my exclaiming an item is "sold", for a start it's of no interest to anyone else but the seller and secondly it keeps putting that sellers post to the top of the listings ahead of everyone else who is playing by the rules.
  7. I have this at number 2 in the greatest Northern Soul records ever made Funny, I never thought that much of it then one night I heard it at an all nighter, I think it was at Herne Bay, it nearly knocked me off my feet with it's power. Relentless, pounding, Detroit soul. I love this record. Sorry you don't like it Emily!
  8. Who are you to call anyone miserable, you don't like the happiest Northern record ever, Wake Up To The Sunshine Girl. Happy, happy, uplifting, happy.
  9. OK. I also gasped in amazement that someone could think I'm Gone is overrated. I've not been on this thread slagging any records off, I'm interested to see what people think. If you go home and post up a thread saying 'what are your top 5 of all time', you'll have people moaning that it's been done a thousand times before. So nobody can win.
  10. Is that a picture of Mick McCarthy on your display? Now you really are trying to upset me.
  11. The topic is about OVER RATED RECORDS. If you don't want to hear people's opinions about their personal OVER RATED RECORDS then just don't read it. Go to a POSITIVE thread instead. They can both exist side by side. Otherwise the forum would be a very boring place.
  12. Are you going to use this in every conversation we have, it was funny the first 14 times, but now...
  13. No, I just don't see the point of having a discussion about anything if nobody is allowed to say they don't like something. I don't like black pudding, I'm not going to say I like it just to make you happy am I...
  14. Yep let's just say nice things about everyone and everything, no criticism of anything at all, flowers and chocolates and jelly and balloons all round. Every soul record ever made is absolutely brilliant, there are no bad ones in Bob and Jocks magical happy place. What a fab forum it would be if we all followed those rules and didn't dislike anything at all. Or you could just leave...
  15. Wasn't Sweet Soul the stuff we were trying to find an alternative to back in the 70's hence many of us discovering Northern Soul? Nice music but last record at the disco stuff.
  16. If anyone wants one, I have an original copy. Whats the going rate though?

  18. Controversial!
  19. It's called My LIfe. I love this.
  20. They don't like merchandising on here.
  21. Well am still none the wiser but well done with the site. I added a little comment about there being a second mix of Jimmy Ruffin on MIracle. Thats probably the only thing I know that wasn't on the site
  22. Thats precisely what I mean though, I constantly get them in collections and just chuck them. No one wanted them.
  23. The companies didn't seem to understand that it was the song not the artist that was of interest Ian, that's why the "follow ups" to big Northern revive 45's never did a thing. Tami lynn, Formations, Little Anthony and so on. These records that you are highlighting (and selling), most of them ended up with dj's on the record companies mailing lists, back in the early 90's I bought my mates sizeable dj collection and the amount of promos was astonishing, I stripped it of all the 60's and things I knew were rare like The Ramones "Blitzkreig Bop" pic sleeve, (there was a terry callier look at me now in there from a soul pack also) then I gave around 500 promos to the Cats Protection League in Hastings Old Town, as the years went by I've often thought about what I gave away, Pioneers My Good FRiend James and so on but at the time I just had no interest in keeping hundreds of 'disco' records. They were all "Alsatian" plugger promo copies.
  24. Toots was over 2 hours late to the show we went to see. Disgraceful. He wondered why the place emptied early, everyone had to get trains and public transport home.
  25. Mick Smith's got one for £25 in his box... (rings me up a minute later to say it's a demo not a test pressing)
