  1. No it's the truth!
  2. It's Betty Winston of The Adorables
  3. Yeah it's a pants song but that backing track is pure detroit magic
  4. It's had all the life strangled out of it between it being a rough demo and a nearly finished product, I could barely believe it was the same record when I heard it.
  5. It does, but that bears practically no resemblence to the other version.
  6. Said I wouldn't comment on these auctions again but to see a Grapevine / RCA acetate which I would have rated at about £40 sell for more than one of the rarest British soul records in existence is just bizarre. Someone got a real bargain with the Edwin Starr Polydor demo, it's twice as rare as something like Darrell Banks on London demo.
  7. No, it's a bloke I was convinced when I got it, thats why I covered it as Little Carl Carlton. It sounds nothing like Betty Boo. It's a boy, sounds about 11 or 12. I'm playing it now, it's a boy.
  8. Tingle's by a bloke..
  9. I'm grateful for all sales, but when you have a record for £20 and they ask if they can have it for £15, despite you already being £10 cheaper than anyone else, well I just give up. Do they go into the supermarket and say "ah yes, this loaf of bread costs £1.50 but I am only going to give you £1.10 for it" and try to haggle the price down?
  10. People get the hump with me if I don't give them free postage on records over £100
  11. There's certainly 2 or 3 versions of the backing track, with strings, without strings
  12. The title. But I see below you've provided proof. Could be fake.
  13. That sounds like an urban myth to me Ged. One you just made up
  14. Yep it's legit, they did Tightrope at the same time, same design.
  15. Jay Traynor was the original singer. He was replaced with Jay Black.
  16. 17. Yeah that's the actual acetate and the uploader is Rob Pheasant aka robinofsherwood aka sherwoodofrobin. Nice work mate!
  18. Yes the RCA acetates are Grapevine advance copies
  19. Think he's still got it.
  20. John Anderson got it along with loads of others (Hanky Panky, Spaceland etc) first time he made contact with Popcorn Wylie
  21. No Stanley Mitchell was pressed on the orange Soul Wax label in 75, then on the colured Dynamo label in 77, the Jades was booted on Ree in 1976 and the Nite Life ones came way later, it was certainly never around in 76-78
  22. It is rare, but not that rare - I've had about half a dozen in the last 10 years including two in the last two years, in fact sold to two people on here, most I've ever asked is £125 but I guess that might be slightly on the low side. The singer comes from about 5 miles away from here in Dudley, Rob Pheasant once found a 10" acetate at a boot sale locally containing the two tracks off the single plus an extra, unreleased track.
  23. MIGHT BE WORTH A LOOK FOLKS, JUST PUT ANOTHER 20 MOTOWN AND DETROIT RECORDS UP, VARYING CONDITION BUT ALL GRADED BY PLAYING THEM SO NO MISTAKES. INCLUDES THINGS LIKE LONELY LONELY GIRL AM I BECAUSE OF YOU TO WIN YOUR HEART TWO FELLOWS SPINNERS LITTLE STEVIE WONDER AND SO ON ANYWAY PLEASE FEEL FREE TO HAVE A BROWSE... https://www.rare-soul.com/wordpress/ pete.smith@freeuk.com
  24. Have you actually had one John because I've never even heard of one.
