  2. Part of the President set up owned by Ed Kassner. The first releases, before they settled down into soul, are an amazing hotch-potch of styles; rocksteady, pop, psychedelia, novelty. Some very interesting and obscure non-soul singles there.
  3. These are the same people who issued things like Johnny Wyatt and Jimmy Robins, they had a specific market for these, they weren't exactly chart fodder. Anyway let's agree to disagree. Jackie Lee "Oh My Darlin'" was always a second division Mirwood sound until reappraised much later.
  4. Change it then Rod, it's unecessary.
  5. I disagree with your disgreement. Look at the amount of copies of the Mirwood things around, every time I buy a collection there's half a dozen in there, yet your Ernie & Ed's are nowhere. They obviously had people with their finger on the pulse of the scene telling them what to release. I've got some Mike Raven shows featuring these records so they weren't just issuing them for the sake of it, they wanted them to be hits.
  6. Honestly what rubbish, it came out on Fontana, got deleted, came out on Action due to demand, got deleted, came out on Jayboy due to demand again...
  7. Sorry only just read this, already sent the list out, what did you want to know?

EMAIL ME AT pete.smith@freeuk.com GRADING: M- Perfect or nearly so. May have a small paper scuff or tiny mark, but very, very clean. E+ A couple more marks than a M- record, but they won't sound, a pretty record with great fidelity. E Full gloss, some light marks and scratches, looks good, plays well. E- Still good shine, numerous marks and/or scratches, but they will be light. VG+ Lots of marks and/or scratches, not ruined but not pretty. VG Scruffy looking but plays through all right, though likely with persistent noise. Note: These records are in the U.S. Shipping is £4 for the first record plus £1 for each additional. Orders over £100 must include £12 for registration, so the package can be tracked. Of course, anything can be returned for a full refund if you're not satisfied. PRICES ARE IN UK POUNDS LABEL ARTIST TITLE GRADE/NOTES UKP -- Nite Riders Kathy E- 100 --Oddball unkown, A-side is group soul ballad with spoken intro, B-side is raucous party soul. No label name, no sign of where it's from. Sounds like an early "Ëœ70s basement production. 521 Paul Walters I Know What Love Is All About E- to E, lt. lbl wear 800 --nice copy, little soiling at the label crest Acetate Dusty Wilson It's Going to Be a Tragedy E 200 --Label was originally typed up as though for a record with a small center hole, and all the paper for the large center hole is gone. Says "Mutt Record Productions" with address at top, bit of title and artist name still intact, but most of both is gone, since it would have been over the center hole. Seven-inch record plays at 33 1/3 with significant acetate hiss throughout, though the music is clear and undistorted. Plays quieter than most records, so needs to have the volume turned up. Blank B-side. Okay play copy, but needs to be eq'd for the hiss. 9. Just what I needed to stick on my carver
  10. Just one of those I've always loved yet never heard played out, ever - always thought it had a bit of everything, great record
  11. I'm talking 72-73 here, they were massive records!
  12. Just a little heads up - Stand by folks - one of the most amazing lists you'll see for a while - up within the next week. Includes 521 Paul Walters She Put Me Down Bard Eddy Hughes Soul Searcher Charade Little Ron & the Esquires I Found Someone Diamond Jim Tempos I'll Never Forget Jam Spencer Sterling Come Back to Me Ole-9 Icemen It's Time You Knew Sound of Soul Little Tommy Baby Can't You See and about 100 more...
  13. Don't think it's rare mate, think I've got one somewhere, or it was in the last job lot I did...would have only sold it at a fiver or so. Others may disagree but there's very little on that label to get excited about, and Westbound No 9 was a chart hit too
  14. Ian things like Shotgun & The Duck and My Little Girl where released due to public demand, they weren't issued on spec just because President had the rights to them. Not saying all Mirwood things on Jayboy were, but 99% of the dancers were. The Cats and The Torch had Cigarette Ashes and That Beatin Rhythm and My Little Girl etc before Jayboy released them, of course they did.
  15. https://www.rare-soul.com/wordpress/record-shop-2/usa-northern-soul-rnb-originals/bonnie-brisker-lovin-deep-me-magic-city-003/ scruffy copy plays great
  16. Well I've been asked to sell it on Kenney's behalf so I'll get the info from him soon as I can.
  17. Agreed, thought it was Cats biggie.
  18. Anyone tell me the price for this please, sale imminent...
  19. It's got hardly any hook, no melody and it's messy?
  20. Back with a very strong Northern Soul compilation which I have decided to modestly call "Brilliant". That's because it's Brilliant. Basically it's some of my very favourite Northern oldies mixed with enough rarities and unissued stuff to keep everyone happy I hope! 21. What does he mean, one acetate? One original acetate from Popcorn Wylie? Cos there's more than one contemporary (contemporary as in 1979) acetate
  22. Don't rate either side to be honest. Not the best sales pitch, I know
  23. Think it's just a collector's record to be honest - might have had Stafford plays maybe - I have a tatty one for sale if anyone wants a copy (tatty label, vinyl ok)
  24. No they are made by someone else Dave, I'll try and find a link to them
  25. Dave the fact that Pep couldn't remember it probably means he was given it there and then that night and asked to play it.
