I first heard him when I was 12 years old in 1972, performing the immortal "Rock Steady"Â on The Trojan Story triple LP. It was love at first listen. This is a guy who could sing the phone book and make it sound soulful. I wanted to try and get all Alton's greatest records in one place, hence this compilation. I have included a few alternate takes so that the diehard's might still find it interesting, plus several of Alton's brilliant cover versions of Soul tracks, which he was particularly adept at. I've had to leave one or two things off as I only had access to 12"Â versions. I've also had to use the Studio One version of "Breaking Up"Â as opposed to my preferred version, the Treasure Isle one, but apart from that, this is about as perfect a showcase of Alton's genius talent as I could put together. I can't believe the amount of "followers" I have on Mixcloud, it's exactly 700, but how do they get to know about it/me, I don't advertise with them. I post it to facebook every time, I post on here maybe 70% of the time, but I don't use twitter. I do 3 diverse types of podcast, soul / reggae / everything else, I think the followers of soul and reggae are split evenly but I've been doing podcasts for a long, long time and I've never had numbers like that before. Not that it makes any difference, I'm happy if just a couple of people listen.

Do you mean mixcloud? I've got about 100 mixes on there. All brilliant.

There's no Philips demos from 61/62 until 68, only issues with stickers or yellow stamps on them. Honestly.

Unusual to see a white label on an American record, so I checked the index of Jamaican matrixes and came up with nothing I'm afraid...
