  1. https://www.mixcloud.com/mayfairmenthol/singles-bar-3/ I know what you’re thinking, just how many times can he use Lonely Heartaches, The Break, Been So Long…well the answer is..LOADS! Trouble is, when I get the 45’s out for a blast, I always end up playing some of the same titles over and over again. But also, I am taking down the original Singles Bar podcast soon, and five of the tracks are on there and I didn’t want them lost altogether. So anyway, we kick off with two instrumental Ska belters and end in exactly the same way, sandwiched in between is an hours worth of prime early reggae from 1968 to 1970 and the odd curiosity like the Dennis & Owen 45 which I think is really nice. If you’d like to see scans and reviews of these records please check out my blogsite, new design showing all the labels on one page. 3. That must be well rare on UK Parlophone
  4. Fantastic set Benji
  5. Sent you a link mate
  6. Kegsy Applejacks not Honeycombs. Anyway there's a very easy explanation for all of this, the songs were sent over in demo form on acetates to the music publishers, and they hawked them around the record labels and band management to try to get them to record their songs. I've had a publishers acetate of Lets Go Somewhere (I think Gene R found it). And the Five & Penny record was a hit in the States (by S & G) plus it was by two very indemand songwriters. But on the whole - publishers.
  7. OK I'll leave it then, thanks Paul. There is a sub menu top right which pops up when the mouse is held over it allowing you to choose by label (label being ska/soul/pop etc)
  8. Still got that cd Paul. NIce one.
  9. Dennis I have or used to have a series of bootleg cd's called "Jukebox at Erics" which was either a real or an imaginary selection of tunes played at Erics club (managed by Eagle) it's a mix of mainly rockabilly and rhythm & blues, is this the sort of thing you mean?
  10. That'sa really tricky one because as everyone knows, she was an Aussie girl...but that record was recorded in the USA and released on Epic before being issued on CBS, and not the other way round like a lot of people think. Play either.
  11. No I didn't read it as negative at all mate, though if it had been, that would have been helpful too as I really did want people to tell me if it was better or worse than it was before
  12. Jesus Russ, playing bootlegs is not a hanging offence. It's not about justifying anything, it's about enjoying yourself before it's too late, people actually want to do this without restrictions being put on them by label and matrix spotters. There is nothing wrong with playing original vinyl, quite the opposite, but just don't expect people who are not interested in it* (*I am interested in it) to be sympathetic with what you yourself want from the Northern scene. Litmus test: advertise an OVO Rarities night at Kings Hall, then the following like do an oldies allnighter at the same venue. The latter will pull in 5 times more than the former. It may not seem right, but thats the way things are and they are not going to change now.
  13. I'm attempting to say that what was once important is not now as important as it was. Every week we log on here and someone we know or one of us knows, has passed away. It just makes me think, that's all.
  14. Most of you are 20 or 30 years younger than most of us. That's why we like a drink and a good time. We're old, and when you're old you tend to stop caring about matrix numbers and concentrate on spending the short time you have left enjoying yourself.
  15. I think maybe he was inferring that that was the ONLY way to get any money to the artist, not a massive amount, but a royalty.
  16. The latter - like all record companies. They aren't charities.
  17. All this means that you can no longer play any Northern on British labels from the 60's unless it was recorded here by a UK artist and got it's first issue here and not the States. Because using your rules, your Ray Pollard's etc are all reissues.
  18. Quite easy to miss though...
  19. Yep that worked, and I replied, I'd like to see the comments made permanently visible instead of having to go into the entry to look for them
  20. Blimey - praise indeed - thanks Sean!
  21. I'm shocked by this! You were actually going to play The Night? (only kidding - great record)
  22. Yeah there's a dozen or so...one on Jon Gunn on Deram for example
  23. I haven't a clue, honestly, maybe you have to have a google address?
  24. There's a lot of links to youtube clips, certainly on the latter entries, but I'm not going to put actual soundclips on because most blog sites that do that get closed down.
  25. Great, thanks for the feedback. So shall I leave it like this, or change it back to how it was?
