  1. I love the sense of tolerance and unity you get on the soul scene
  2. You say then go on to quote one of the worst of them
  3. Well the first 20 or so had colour outer covers but it was so expensive I had to scrap that idea, but yes that's the one Pete.
  4. Probably more likely to have been "Break down and let it all out" I think?
  5. That Walter jackson is a brilliant choice
  6. You know I collect ska and reggae right, I only have about 400 or so singles (sold 3 massive collections) but I would honestly estimate that at least 60% of those were won for bids of a maximum £13.88 or less. (Not sure why I always put .88 on the end).
  7. You know when you've got no money but you see a record you really want on Ebay and you just can't bear not to have a snipe on it, even though you know you haven't a chance of winning it? I've got that feeling at the moment big time, six records, I expect them to go for between 60 and 100 quid each, I've bid £26.88 on each well you never know...
  8. OK think I know now so closing topic, cheers everyone
  9. No I think he only golfs on fridays now...sometimes mondays LOL
  10. Nah he would have asked me mate, I spoke to him this morning.
  11. Exactly. I'm sure I was told at least 40 x 300 dj boxes but that would be 12,000 records not 150,000.
  12. I've just been told that a shop in Wolverhampton just bought in 150,00 Northern Soul records (surely not that many) including loads of big tunes, complete run of UK Motowns etc, but this doesn't make much sense to me as surely someone on here would have known about a collection that size being sold or bought? Ring a bell with anyone at all?
  13. Spot on. Best place to get an accurate price? - here on Soul Source.
  14. Yeah actually Dave I contradicted myself on the two podcasts I listed because there are a couple on there that aren't strictly beat ballads. I think the concept was 90% northern beat ballads and 10% Spector wall of soundalikes.
  15. Before anyone says oh no not again, can anyone tell me if the Volcanos - Storm Warning - Arctic,. white label with blue lettering, is a 70's issue? I am presuming it is and I wouldn't want to mislead any potential Ebay bidders now would I?
  16. Anyone wanting to hear the absolute cream of beat ballads, these two podcasts will blow your socks off, possibly among the top 5 podcasts I've ever done (and I've done over 300) https://podcast9122525417.podomatic.com/entry/2011-12-06T04_59_05-08_00 https://podcast9122525417.podomatic.com/entry/2011-12-08T07_08_54-08_00 PORGY & THE MONARCHS — IF IT’S FOR REAL — MUSICOR FAYE CRAWFORD — WHAT HAVE I DONE WRONG — RCA MARIE KNIGHT — A LITTLE TOO LONELY — MUSICOR CLYDIE KING — THE THRILL IS GONE — IMPERIAL WALTER JACKSON — IT’S AN UPHILL CLIMB TO THE BOTTOM — OKEH JIMMY BEAUMONT — YOU GOT TOO MUCH GOING FOR YOU — BANG THE KNICKERBOCKERS — WISHFUL THINKING — CHALLENGE CLYDIE KING — MISSIN’ MY BABY — IMPERIAL RUBY & THE ROMANTICS — YOUR BABY DOESN’T LOVE YOU ANYMORE — KAPP GEORGE & SONNY SANDS — DOWN BY THE OCEAN — NEW VOICE JIMMY CLANTON — HURTING EACH OTHER — MALA RAY POLLARD — THE DRIFTER — UNITED ARTISTS BOBBY SHEEN- SWEET SWEET LOVE — CAPITOL ANITA BRYANT — MY MIND’S PLAYING TRICKS ON ME AGAIN — COLUMBIA REPARATA & THE DELRONS — I’M NOBODY’S BABY — RCA JERRY GANEY — JUST A FOOL — VERVE NINO TEMPO & APRIL STEVENS — THE HABIT OF LOVIN’ YOU BABY — WHITE WHALE TOMMY HUNT — LOVER — UNISSUED JERRY JACKSON — I’M GONNA PAINT A PICTURE — PARKWAY P.J. 17. Whereas this is a real beat ballad, all the ingredients you need from, as you say, the master
  18. That's not a beat ballad Dave, that's a midtempo!
  19. Mr. Potts do you have anything else by Derrick Harriott - Walk The Streets, Solomon, The Loser - serious money for those titles
  20. Dave the Drug is adamant that the Wki entry for Northern Soul should be amended so that I can personally take credit for introducing the term Beat Ballad late 80's we were desperately trying to find a phrase to describe this sort of records as 'midtempo' was proving inadequate. I don't know if I got it off a record list maybe so I don't think I actually did invent the term Beat Ballad, but I think I probably was the first person to put it into print and suddenly it was everywhere. I know the term has been about for 50 years - but not in this context. But hey what do I know, I'm probably making all this up to look clever.
  21. Just realised I don't think I've ever actually played "Together", just "Mama Didn't Lie". Slow soulful ballad, very nice.
  22. I would have to disagree - I'm not a massive SOUL fan but there's nothing I love more than real beat ballads like the one you suggested.
  23. It's not rare at all compared to 50% of the Island releases, I must have had half a dozen in the last 10 years, £25 pretty standard price though one sold for £51.
  24. A fantastic list from Joe as always.
