  1. I'm sorry but that just does not hold true. What about the many plays of the vocal of DOUBLE BARREL at Kings Hall Stoke (A Northern Soul allnighter). Try convincing me that that turns into Northern Soul after X amount of plays.
  2. I don't agree that it's a weak record, I think it's a great record, I remember it being played on Radio 1 when it was first released back in 1968, liked it then, like it now. Just don't really see how it can suddenly become a Northern record.
  3. Thats got to be the bargain of the year!
  4. I always thought it was but someone posted up a vocal/inst demo recently, unless I dreamt it
  5. No it doesn't, why would it? Are you saying if Carl Willingham played "Hey Jude" by The Beatles in the Main Room at Kings Hall, we'd have to ask ourselves if that was Northern?
  6. Brilliant track
  7. I'm no Northern Soul snob, in fact I'm quite the opposite, and I doubt if anyone else has had more UK produced Northern 45's than I have to be honest, but no way in a million years is "Beggin'" by Timebox a Northern Soul record. It's a Mod record. Who plays "Beggin'" by Timebox as Northern Soul?
  8. I've got a test press of just one side of a Martha & The Vandellas French Tamla EP! Just a white label though so pointless putting a picture up.
  9. The Best Top 500 Northern Soul Records In The World.....Ever
  10. Yep brilliant instrumental that. It's on that Wigan 2nd anniversary tape I posted up years back
  11. A top 500 does not make any sense at all if it's based on CURRENT dancefloor favourites because that will all change in a months time. So it can only be based on a record's history and it's quality and longevity. I bet some of the stuff in the last book is nowhere near this book. And even then, it's subjective to the author, and of course most people have a different all time favourite.
  12. Nobody really knows where these records were played first do they? We only relate to where we first heard them, so if I first heard Lillie Bryant at Wigan, I associate it as being a Wigan record whereas someone else says it's a Blackpool record..
  13. Chris L knows Arthur Wright, I"m sure he can give a few facts and insights, I think he ran over an unissued acetate in his garage once

  17. I personally can't choose between Sidras Theme vocal and instrumental, when I hear the one I want to hear the other, and vice versa, maybe someone should do an extended mix!
  18. Big for about a month at Wigan via Richard and Pep, Ian, then dropped like a stone after it was booted
  19. I love most of these and agree with most of them being better than the vocals but the instrumental of Try A Little Harder better than the vocal, do me a favour, it's very week compared to those other scorching Mirwood insts and the vocal is just brilliant.
  20. It's a hard record because it was withdrawn from sale because of it's similarity to "This old heart of mine". Or so the rumour goes...
  21. This is my 6 year old boy Sam's favourite record, I filmed him dancing to it the other week but I won't make you suffer it as some of his dance moves are rather bizarre (street dance, apparently)

    Good point Rod.
  23. If you're trying to tell me the early 80's were the halcyon days of Northern Soul, I'm afraid we shall have to disagree. I'm talking about numbers. From 1978 onwards people left the scene in their thousands and nobody replaced them. That's fact!
  24. It's not a reissue. It's a UK recording and that DJM release is the original issue. Most of the people who played on that were Elton John's backing group. If you want the actual 'original' it's by a group called Wind and a label called Life, USA issue, you'll find one for a fiver.

They certainly are, but wouldn't it have looked fantastic as a red and white? I hate green and white demos. They just don't have the wow factor of red and whites. Or on the other hand, I might be mental.
