  1. Memory Lane Records, just before traffic lights/crossroads? I'm still in touch with the owner of that shop, I'll sort your credit note out
  2. Get well soon Dave, wishing you a speedy recovery Pete & family
  3. These are circa 1975, have got one, sound quality is fine...actually put it on ebay 2 months back and it went for £30 and the bloke never paid for it...why bid?
  4. You did Grant, I've got a tape I did of that night where Searling is going nuts at the people setting up on stage as they keep making his records jump "if anyone ever wanted to see Monty Pythons Flying Circus live it's happening right now on stage" ... must upload that tape, it's a cracker.
  5. He didn't work for RCA until 4 years after this was discovered, it's a Mecca or Catacombs record, 72-73 discovery * sorry posted before read all replies saying the same thing
  6. beat me to it...question "which pop song do you prefer over soul version" cue someone complaining the thread is about pop music
  7. You can absolutely bet your life someone will!
  8. It's just one of those things - I always preferred Doni Burdick's version of I Have Faith In You to Edwin Starr's and I've been told a thousand time that it's the ultimate in sacrilege - but I think the reason is, I heard the Doni Burdick one first, so that's the one I got to know, then when I heard the Edwin one a year or two later, he sang it in a different way to the one I was used to, so I wasn't that keen on it. Of course Edwin's voice is many times better than Doni's, but that doesn't appear to be the reason why I prefer the one over the other, it's just what you are familiar with. Stop me if I'm talking b*llocks.
  9. Sorry look I wasn't being a smartarse, it was just when you said that you'd never lost one by getting up at 4am in the morning, it sounded as if that was the secret to winning, physically getting up out of bed and bidding maybe I read it wrong...
  10. It is isn't it, I'm with you on that one.
  11. You're right Roy, an awful lot of 'start up' records there. A lot of rubbish as well but a fair amount of decent items - £2.50, you can't even get a pint for that...
  12. I didn't even know the Elton John record was a cover version!

  14. Very intelligent comeback, well done And again... Cheers.
  15. Last time this came up it caused so much argument that the site almost crashed - that was mainly due to me and Mr Chorley having a mega-clash after I said I preferred Go Now by The Moody Blues and Sitting In The Park by Georgie Fame. I still stick to those choices.
  16. But you would have done if my sniper was set at higher than your bid...and I'd still be tucked up in bed

  18. Never used that one but you have to set the time yourself. Usually.
  19. How can anyone buy from a list like that, no gradings, no prices and no information as to whether it's an original or a reissue (most are reissues). I appreciate it says to PM for price and condition but why not just state them?
  20. THis is reggae not soul, but it's so soulful, if you know what I mean, two versions here If there's a better early Reggae 45 than this I'm yet to hear it. One of the maybe three or four records from my old collection that I had to get back come hell or high water, I finally got it back last week, cost a pretty penny mind but it was well worth it. The song was originally a late doo-wop hit for The Pastels featuring Dee Irwin on vocals. Derrick's version obviously updates it by doubling the pace, but the call and male backing response of the title is still present and both versions are supremely soulful, plus there's an extremely catchy organ riff to spice up Derrick's version. All the time the chopping, "Sufferer" type rhythm is propelling the song along and I can honestly say that this is - in my opinion - one of the best 10 Jamaican records ever made, it's one of those you can play, put the neddle back on and play again, and do this again and again... I've put a link to both Derrick Harriott's version and also The Pastels original
