  1. No but I have a white label test pressing - has the proper B side on the flip - of a cancelled UK 45 release of this, illegal or legal I do not know but I don't know of another copy. Run off number is LYN 29641 which obviously means it was pressed by Lyntone (the people who used to make flexidiscs). Belongs to a friend on Soul Source. Hard to value something like this but what's the chances of finding one - and did anyone else know it existed, I certainly didn't until I saw it.
  2. thats why I stopped buying from the States, it was after ebay made the sellers put on that message about full customs must be declared, it scared half of them to death
  3. Still clearing my books out, I have a hardback copy of Ray Davies' novel Waterloo Sunset for sale, it's signed by the author on the inside title page, condition is nearly new apart from some scratches on the front dust cover, asking £10.99 plus postage. sold..
  4. I've forgotten more than you'll ever know about records......
  5. Great cover up name but it sounds more like a Nigel or a Julian than it does an Otis
  6. Hi folks, here's my Christmas present to you lot, a selection of old favourites, some lesser known stuff and a couple of novelty items which should make for an interesting 2 hours listening. Of the new stuff, how could I have missed Dennis Alcapone's version of "Once Upon A Time" utilising one of the heaviest rocksteady rhythms ever put down? Wow. Talking of Al Capone, here's Emperor Rosco's version from 1970, recorded with help from none other than Clancy Eccles. He recut it in 1974 but this is pure Skinhead Reggae style. There's the usual smattering of some of my regulars (Clarendonians, Alton Ellis, Skatalites) but the last word goes to the joyous, youthful sounds of the late Steve Collins with his "Ding A Ling Ting A Ling", far from the greatest record ever made but one that should leave a smile on your face. Thanks to everyone following me on Mixcloud for your support, and thanks for listening. Cheers and a very Happy Christmas, Pete. https://www.mixcloud.com/mayfairmenthol/xmas-sound-system-special/ OWEN GRAY & COLLINS BAND — CHRISTMAS GREETINGS THE MAYTONES — CALL YOU UP DESMOND DEKKER & THE ACES — SABOTAGE D TONY LEE — COOL COOL ROCKSTEADY SHORTY THE PRESIDENT — HALFWAY TREE PRESSURE DOBBY DOBSON — LOVING PAUPER JACKIE MITTOO — RAM JAM KING STITT — KING OF KINGS DENNIS ALCAPONE & ALTON ELLIS — BIG BAD BOY VERSION PRINCE BUSTER — SHAKING UP ORANGE STREET OWEN GRAY — GIRL I WILL BE LEAVING THE TECHNIQUES — YOU DON’T CARE DENNIS ALCAPONE — MOSQUITO ONE U ROY & ALTON ELLIS — AIN’T THAT LOVING YOU THE HEPTONES — A CHANGE IS GOING TO COME KEN BOOTHE — YOU LEFT THE WATER RUNNING KEN BOOTHE — HOME HOME HOME SCOTTY — SESAME STREET DERRICK MORGAN — HARD TIME DENZIL DENNIS — NEVER FOUND A GIRL SOUL REBELS — I’M THE ONE WHO LOVES YOU GOD SONS — MERRY UP ROSCO — AL CAPONE (1970 VERSION) SIR LORD COMIC — THE GREAT WUGA WUGA DION CAMERON & THE THREE TOPS — LORD HAVE MERCY DERRICK HARRIOTT — THE JERK DERRICK HARRIOTT — DANCING THE REGGAE THE SKATALITES — MISS SKA CULATION AUGUSTUS PABLO — KING TUBBY MEETS ROCKERS UPTOWN THE CLARENDONIANS — WALKING UP A ONE WAY STREET I ROY — WAR ZONE PAT KELLY — STRIVING FOR THE RIGHT BIG YOUTH — THAT’S LIFE BOBBY ELLIS — REINCARNATE DENNIS BROWN & DENNIS BROWN — GET IN THE GROOVE THE PIONEERS — JACKPOT ALTON ELLIS — BREAKING UP I ROY & DENNIS WALKS — HEART DON’T LEAP THE CLARENDONIANS — LONELY HEARTACHES JOHN & JOYA — MAYBE SOMEDAY THE TENNORS — REGGAE GIRL THE REGGAEITES — HARRIS WHEEL THE INSPIRATIONS — DOWN IN THE PARK MARCIA GRIFFITHS — TELL ME NOW STEVE COLLINS — DING A LING TING A LING
  7. Dunno but this wasn't a website, northernsoulrecords was just the guys ebay user name
  8. I didn't even look at them but I'm still happy for people on here to act as detectives on my behalf...
  9. People were asking why the old popsike photos and the new ones were the same. It would have only taken a minute to explain why. This seller is obviously perfectly legit but fingers crossed you don't become a victim of someone who is REALLY a scammer after people tried to warn you or at least do a bit of digging to find out the legitimacy of an item. We're all here to help each other not gloat.

Yeah the chap was selling it on here - or rather plugging the ebay sale of it on here, he found it at a local flea market I think - was about 3 months ago. Sorry don't know exactly what it went for, rumour was $12000
  11. the white issue like many other spqr issues is not a demo - it was pressed at monarch delta 53023 which makes it a early 60s original press

I will bet anyone that this has been pressed from the soundfile provided by the seller of that original the other month, the mp3 on the ebay sale is low quality but you can tell it's a fresh recording, the chap must have sent out stacks of them.
  13. If you can't see where the problem is then you've obviously not read the thread.
  14. That's a very rare demo Steve. I wouldn't have paid more than a tenner as I don't like it but I can count the copies I've seen on one hand.
  15. Have to agree with all of this.
  16. I said exactly the same thing the last time this record came up. But A Williams is maybe Andre Williams? (Going back 15 years or so I think Ady compared the two in a Kent cd sleeve note)
  17. Don't know why he says that, apart from being written by Eddie Singleton and 'produced' by Ray(noma?), it sounds like a New York production, nothing like a Shrine record.
  18. It's a very old Gershwin song but the last version I remember was by Bronski Beat! Loads of people have done it though https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/It_Ain't_Necessarily_So
  19. In keeping with many many reggae 45's, it's not even Ernest Wilson, it's Glen Adams!
  20. Think I've lost track of the thread but are people saying that Mind In A Bind is a better record than I'm So Devoted? Can't be true surely...
  21. Never heard of this being booted, too common surely?
  22. Shirley Edwards is one of the greatest records ever made
