  1. There's nothing wrong with SNATM, it's a fantastic record. I'm replying to the context that it was put in.
  2. True, they were going for years and years, maybe even into the late 80's. Gordy did I ever tell you, I have an A4 sheet sent to me by someone who will remain nameless but got access to the archive, showing the sales figures for all of Island's 45 releases up to about WI-90? Makes fascinating reading. Biggest seller was The Maytals - Six And Seven Books. Some titles sold less than 200 copies.
  3. Well I also have a Mayfield Singers and I'd struggle to get £10 for that one. The Moses Smith is 100% legit. Not sure about the other one, don't think it is.
  4. Thank you chaps. I tend to base my prices on what things go for on here now rather than anywhere else. Example, George Blackwell - Mr Loser, £150 on a website, £60 on here. I'm going to go for the latter. £90 difference! Loads of examples like that. p.s. little sonny - wade in the water - enterprise - 30 / 40??
  5. He used The In Crowd I think...
  6. OK so the Ramsey Lewis wasn't used on Radio Hallam but it was used on the show he used to do from Manchester - right?
  7. Last time I sold this it was about £40 I think, I see one on Popsike went for £94 - now I know it's a reissue but has anyone actually got a copy for sale, and if not, I presume I could actually ask £75 or so? What do the panel think is a fair price for this one?
  8. And so you should
  9. It was Ramsey Lewis' version of "Hurt So Bad". I presume.
  10. A mint record should have only been played two, three times at most, after that it becomes mint minus. An EX record or an EX+ record is the same as above but might have one mark not affecting play. A VG+ record will have sings of play, the odd pop, but not be a piece of crap like most people grade VG+ at! There is way too much of a jump between VG+ and M- which is why I won't use the Soul Source gradings.
  11. I would say that there are sort-of demos of practically every single ska and reggae record issued in the UK but many are just ridiculously rare as they are plain white labels - pre releases - Blue Beat wise I've only had maybe three, but if I've had three that means there must be more. Island, I've had maybe four white labels. After that, the Trojan and Pama group issued white labels of every one of their 45's I would have thought, also many that didn't get an actual release. They sold at 7/6 each. As to availability, I know Island distributed records themselves for the first two or three years, by van.
  12. That's because you drove them all away by only writing about Modern Soul
  13. It is a nice price but at least it's a sensible one.
  14. ..a 'big name dj' wouldn't play a record that was in the charts a year earlier in the main room at Wigan. It's because of stories like this that people think Wigan played whatever was in the charts. They actually played the rarest of the rare Northern Soul. Mr M's might have played it or Evison maybe but don't associate it with the real Wigan. Top sounds from 75 FRANKIE CROCKER - TON OF DYNAMITE SKULLSNAPS - I'M YOUR PIMP LARRY SANTOS - YOU GOT ME WHERE YOU WANT ME JEANETTE HARPER - PUT ME IN YOUR POCKET BILLY WOODS - LET ME MAKE YOU HAPPY WILLIE MITCHELL - THE CHAMPION CAPREEZ - HOW TO MAKE A SAD MAN GLAD YVONNE BAKER - YOU DIDN'T SAY A WORD KING ERRISON - ZOLA FOUR PERFECTIONS - I'M NOT STRONG ENOUGH DRIFTERS - YOU GOT TO PAY YOUR DUES and DRIFTERS - SATURDAY NIGHT AT THE MOVIES ?????????????
  15. Try searching in help for something like identity theft and I think you'll find a number, otherwise you spend weeks following dead ends trying to find one
  16. Pete there are no Philips, Mercury or Fontana demos from 1963 to 1968, trust me. They are all stock copies with either a yellow stamp or a white sticker. Only other thing it could have been would have been a test pressing or an acetate, I've had 1-sided Philips acetates before.
  17. Just to prove these things go round in circles - I reviewed this as a' newie' in 1989 or 1990 and said exactly the same as you - nobody bothered though except some of the people buying my fanzine. Is the B side I Gotta Now? p.s. no I've got this wrong, I reviewed I Gotta Go Now as the A side and said this side was a weird song about LSD
  18. I don't think this track was ever booted to be honest - and a styrene demo will be an original.
  19. Happy New Year to you too mate, please feel free to argue with me whenever you wish during this coming year, livens it up a bit and no one gets hurt
  20. One here but wasn't the one I'm thinking of
  21. Topic about this very record about 6 weeks back somewhere
  22. Was about to type everything Dave typed above! It's not a rare record. I think the West Coast might be slightly harder than the East Coast though.
  23. I do, I didn't buy them

  25. Negative feedback doesn't seem to bother most of them, my missus bought some slippers for Grace before Christmas, they were two sizes smaller than advertised, so she sent them back, they refunded her but not her postage money so for their mistake she was £3 out of pocket. Anyway, I looked at their feedback and in the last MONTH they'd had like 25 negatives (most for the same thing) and altogether they had over 100 negatives, yet they are still allowed to trade. This is because they make so much money for ebay listing hundreds of items every week.
