Are you actually agreeing with me?
-
Not quite, the first 10 or so are proper demos with printed A's to the right of the title, Vala Reegan is like that, had a couple of others too
-
You're always out of likes
-
They do, and that was the start of a slippery slope!
-
Oh please please please let me know what doubles you've got before you move them on

Dave it's also a list containing records that are constantly ridiculed on here Dave, like The Poppies, Wombat - but yet you say these records get played out - so does that mean that the people always going on about the likes of Bobby Goldsboro, The Present, and all the other white pop stompers, they don't go out either, and more importantly, their opinion thankfully doesn't affect anything that DJ's do? Because I'm sure they'd like to think it does! -

Dave it's not meant to be an in depth study, it's just some records that I, me, Pete Smith, had not heard played out since their heyday. And a bunch of titles, many of which people say are the worst they've ever heard, like Wombat. It's just a laugh, something to listen to. * oh and trust me, I don't need to get out more if people are playing The Flasher nowadays like Andy reports some posts above -
So we have a night where X amount of people are dancing to Northern, then someone plays crossover and the first lot sit down and a second lot get up, then someone plays R & B so the second lot sit down and another lot get up - and so on and so on. It's either a Northern Soul event or it's not. If it's advertised as a Northern Soul night then play Northern Soul then the people attending won't feel they've been duped. And before someone says "well the more enlightened ones would stay on the floor and dance to all of them" - those people are a tiny minority. I know I don't go out much but I have been out - a lot, an awful lot - in the past, from the ages of 14 up until maybe 10 years ago, and I would not set foot in a place which advertised itself as Across The Board because I'd spend half the night waiting for the crossover and modern to end.Where's the fun in that?

Otis Blackwell is a great track Aid but it was played very little after the start of 77 and then of course it was pressed...Charlie Gracie is on Stateside but it's a red and white demo. I loved that at the time...am on the fence about it now. -

I've not heard that played anywhere since 1976. It had been dropped from Wigan by then despite not being bootlegged. -
No never seen that, supposed to have The Shadow Of Your Smile on the other side, would surely have seen one by now..
-
Snap. And Treasure Isle. Though there's barely a duff track on Treasure Isle.

Jealous? I was asking if the record is now worth more than double what it worth when I was asked to sell it. It wasn't mine anyway so why would I be jealous of whatever price this latest one makes? If I had one of my own and it sold for a low price, then I might be "jealous and resentful". For about 2 minutes.

I think people collect records for different reasons, as to whether it's as popular today as, what 10 years ago? On our scene, I don't think it ever changes, it all 'revolves' around records. I don't collect Northern records, I just buy and sell them. I do collect Ska & Reggae records, and there are two reasons for this. Firstly, I like to get my favourite records and then I like to play my favourite records whenever I feel the need. Secondly, and this is worrying, I collect the red and white Island label and I literally collect the label. This means even if the 45 is rubbish, I will buy it. A lot of people do this, collecting labels, and very few labels have a run where every record is excellent. So why pay money for something you'll never play? F*cked if I know

Did I or did I not put one up for auction on here on someone's behalf maybe 4, 5 years ago and it didn't reach it's reserve of £4,500? So it's now worth more than double that is it?
-
This will mean very little to any of you folks but this means a lot to me and I am so chuffed to have a copy back safely in my collection. It's actually by Carl Bryan and Lynn Tait, not Joe White.

I went to see John Lydon and PIL last year, £30 a ticket. Good show but too few songs, many of them extended to like 12" versions, too much of the new album and not enough classics the fans would have liked to hear. At least I achieved a lifetime goal which was to actually see John Lydon in the flesh, having been a fan of but the Pistols since their first album but never having seen them live.
-
I will put that question to the record's owner but I think the answer will be 'no' as I already reduced it from £60..

Let's not go there, the Clash ending up "selling out" by becoming Americanised and playing stadiums and letting their music be used for Levis ads. You know, ads, same as Johnny Rotten. They are all as bad (or as good) as each other.

Has a little background crackle on the a capella intro, I mean a little, hardly anything, then plays great with a couple of barely audible pops until about 30 seconds from the end where there's a little scratch causing some clicks. Nice copy though, glossy, not mashed up. No centre. I'd grade it as VG++ to be safe. £175 post free

I thought I deleted the line about The Poppies being too white! Actually I did because I ran out of space on the Mixcloud description, I had to cut a few lines, I must have pasted up the original on here. But I'm glad you see what I was getting at though with that point. Plus I'm steering clear of you anyway as it gives me migraines when we bash heads

Just to reiterate, they weren't records that I considered tosh, they were those that either constantly crop up as being examples of what 'bad' Northern is, or ones that fell out of favour very quickly and don't get back on playlists because, in a lot of cases, they are considered not soulful enough for todays scene. Half of them came out of my favourites box!
