Another 70 minutes or so of cracking Northern Soul oldies. This series are meant to play out as if they are a DJ set - my DJ set - except I don't DJ anymore - but hey, if I did, this is the sort of thing you'd hear. It's much easier being a bedroom DJ of course. Now I took a risk here including the Linda Lewis record but it really is a great version and is very seldom heard anywhere. Lots of upbeat, uptempo things in this set, including the brilliant Deon Jackson acetate, hope you enjoy it and next one should be up in a day or two. JACKIE BEAVERS — COME BACK MY LOVE THE EMPIRES — YOU’RE ON TOP GIRL KATHY & THE CALENDARS — PLEASE DON’T GO BUTLER BROTHERS — REPUTATION LINDA LEWIS — YOU TURNED MY BITTER INTO SWEET THE GROOVERS — I’M A BASHFUL GUY THE CAPITALS — I CAN’T DENY THAT I LOVE YOU THE MOMENTS — YOU SAID JOE GRAVES — DEBBIE BRICE COEFIELD — AIN’T THAT RIGHT DEON JACKSON — SOME DAY THE SUN WILL SHINE THE NATURAL FOUR — I THOUGHT YOU WERE MINE THE POETS — WRAPPED AROUND YOUR FINGER BUD HARPER — WHEREVER YOU WERE DON RAY SAMPSON — BABY COME BACK THE ROTATIONS — PUT A DIME ON D9 MONIQUE — IF YOU LOVE ME (SHOW ME) MARVELOUS RAY — WHIRLPOOL PAMELA BEATTY — TALKING EYES THE TEARDROPS — HERE COMES LONELINESS RUBY — DECEIVED LANDY — DOCTOR GOOD SOUL FREDDIE HOUSTON — IF I HAD KNOWN LAFAYETTE VAUGHAN — FIRST DEGREE LOVE JIMMY BEAUMONT — I NEVER LOVED HER ANYWAY JERRY JACKSON — I’M GONNA PAINT A PICTURE GWEN STACY — AIN’T GONNA CRY NO MORE PORGY & THE MONARCHS — IF IT’S FOR REAL https://www.mixcloud.com/mayfairmenthol/the-thinking-mans-oldies-4/

Makes me smile, in 1976 I remember doing a tape for myself and I had all the records on it, they were all big records at that time, MVP's, Pointer Sisters, Nate Evans etc, none had been pressed, couple of years went by, I lent the tape to a mate and he was with Chris Plant going to Wigan and they played the tape in the car, and he asks who did the tape and my mate tells him, and he says what a boring predictable bunch of pressings. He wasn't even on the scene when I recorded that tape, last time I saw him I sold him bloomin' Samantha Jones on UK United Artists. He obviously progressed.
-
Excellent work, Sun.
-
Probably just a one-off girl group record unrelated to anything else. I remember buying 2 copies off this when I first got on the net, from a shop in Cornwall! £5 each or something daft like that.

Pete S replied to Donkit's topic in Look At Your Box
Well it's all subjective Dave, I didn't think that many people would know The Uptights, or things like The Voices, I know I included one or two 'top 500' things but in general it's stuff I would have played if I dj'd, or would like to hear someone play. They're meant to run together like a dj set. Not to be taken too seriously. -

What a dull record this is. Will not make it onto "The Thinking Man's Oldies" -
Not seen one for 13 years, sorry!
-
Extremely easy - original is pink/red, reissue is gold.
-
It's actually a reissue from 1976. Just list it as 2nd issue or reissue, year doesn't matter.
-
If it's styrene with a stuck on label, it's likely to be a pressing / reissue. See if there's anything etched in the run out. If it's got a triangle then a number 100271 it's a reissue. You can usually date records by that delta number, numbers beginning with 90 and 100 are always made in the 70's
-
But ridiculous price
-
I wouldn't worry about that, they had both, you know how to tell originals from reissues - small 45 on the label for reissues (except one Major Lance 45). Later bootlegs dead easy to spot.
-
That Chris Farlowe looks stunning.

As far as rarity goes - this is almost on a par with the Billy Harner instrumental. Am amazed there's not been more fuss about it to be honest. -
There's quite a few UK Garnet Mimms releases, unfortunately that one isn't worth a lot, you should expect £10 to £20 for it, if you get more, bonus!

Major Lance, Canadian Epic, Valuation Idea Please

Mebbe - but who'd pay it? Doubt if I'd pay half that for a Candian one -

What Album Never Left Your Turntable When You Were Younger?
Pete S replied to Davebanks's topic in All About the SOUL
Think it was either Selectadisc or Colin Bee, all the biggest oldies on one LP. -
Welcome to volume 3 of The Thinking Man’s Oldies, blimey you lot loved the first two, record figures for Mixcloud for me personally so this must prove that contrary to what they say, I HAVE got decent taste in music after all (LOL) This episode is another cracker, not a duff track to be seen/heard, and a couple of surprises too (c/o Kent Records), check out the previously unissued September Jones track and see if the backing sounds familiar, and there’s an alternate version of Melba Moore’s incredible Magic Touch as well as 25 or so slices of Northern Soul genius. I hope you’ll be pleased to hear that I’ve got another three episodes already recorded after this one (then that’s yer lot). Happy listening — Pete. p.s. I need red and white Island label 45’s, please let me know if you have anything for sale https://www.mixcloud.com/mayfairmenthol/the-thinking-mans-oldies-3/ RAY AGEE — I’M LOSING AGAIN LEE ANDREWS & THE HEARTS — CAN’T DO WITHOUT YOU LOU PRIDE — I’M COMUN’ HOME IN THE MORNUN’ SEPTEMBER JONES — STUTTERING SAM TAMIKO JONES — I’M SPELLBOUND BIG FRANK & THE ESSENCES — I WON’T LET HER SEE ME CRY THE VOICES — FALL IN LOVE AGAIN THE CASANOVA TWO — WE GOT TO KEEP ON THE ADMIRATIONS — HEAVEN IS IN YOUR ARMS THE ROYAL ROBINS — SOMETHING ABOUT YOU THAT SENDS ME JOCK MITCHELL — NOT A CHANCE IN A MILLION THE MASQUERADERS — HOW THE ARCADES — THERE’S GOT TO BE A LOSER THE BOSS FOUR — WALKIN’ BY NANCY BUTTS — I WANT TO HOLD YOUR HAND SAMMY KING — YOUR OLD STAND BY JAMES FOUNTAIN — SEVEN DAY LOVER THE VOLUMES — ONE WAY LOVER BOBBY MAC — SHY GUY DIANE LEWIS — YOU AIN’T GOT A CHANCE COURT DAVIS — TRY TO THINK (WHAT YOU’RE DOING) THE STARTONES — LOVIN’ YOU BABY JOAN BAKER — EVERYBODY’S TALKING DOUGLAS GIBSON — RUN FOR YOUR LIFE MELBA MOORE — THE MAGIC TOUCH (ALT.VERSION) FRANK HOWARD — JUDY ROSALIND MADISON — NEIGHBOURHOOD GIRL MARY WELLS — KEEP ME IN SUSPENSE
