No but they might be in a week or two

I hate this sort of stuff. Nobody knows how many copies of anything there are. There are so many collectors who are off the radar. All that guy can say is that HE only knows of 10 copies in the world.

I'll try and think of something

It'll probably take 3 or 4 months before the US sellers realise they are not getting half the business from the UK as they used to. See what happens then maybe.

PETE SMITH 01902 326306 pete.smith@freeuk.com SOME REALLY CRACKING OLDIES TODAY FOLKS DEAN COURTNEY - (LOVE) YOU JUST CAN'T WALK AWAY - MGM DEMO EX 200 SOLD Please read carefully! This one is glossy but has some marks on the vinyl ok, so you look at it and think maybe VG+ or EX-. It plays NEAR MINT no pops, scratches, crackles, nothing. So if you want a perfect playing copy, £50 to £100 cheaper than you'd pay for one without a few marks on the vinyl, this will be perfect. Sounds absolutely awesome. THE SOULFUL TWINS - I CAN'T LET YOU GO - SABLE M 150 SOLD Stunning copy of this in-demander - same backing track as The Magnetics "Count The Days" MARVELOUS RAY - WHIRLPOOL - ABNER EX 90 Absolute monster dancer from the Thelma label - how it ended up on Abner is anyone's guess. Old Searling cover up (Baby Washington). Has a little background noise in one channel from time to time but barely makes a difference - absolutely fine for dj-ing (sound clip available) POSSE - EVIL - JANUS EX 70 Great later Wigan oldie, now a forgotten sound. Lovely vinyl but a little wear on the raised part of the label. BOBBY HEBB - YOU WANT TO CHANGE ME - PHILIPS M 50 Now an established classic but really tough to find a USA copy which doesn't hiss. This one is perfect. BOBBY SHEEN - SOMETHING NEW TO DO - WARNER BROS ISSUE M 50 SOLD Lovely stock copy. Actually has a very thin ring wear circle but the vinyl is absolutely pristine, and it's a vinyl copy not styrene. THE AMERICAN YOUTH CHOIR - KEEP YOUR FINE SELF NEAR ME - POLYDOR M 30 Superb uptempo dancer - came out on UK Polydor as well. WILSON PICKETT - LET ME BE YOUR BOY - CUB VG++ 30 Has some label wear and marks on the vinyl but it plays near mint - the grading is for it's visual appearance, no worries about how it sounds. JEANIE KING - YOU'VE GOT A GOOD THING GOING - GENERAL AMERICAN M 30 Classic oldie from early Wigan / Mecca period CHICAGO ALLSTARS - NOWHERE TO RUN - TRI EM VG+ 25 SOLD Very gospel-influenced dancer from Stafford. Used vinyl but plays great. PEGGY MARCH - IF YOU LOVED ME - GERMAN RCA EX- 30 SOLD Very nice looking on this label. Some tiny quiet background pops right on the intro otherwise perfect. BOBBY THOMAS & THE AFROS - MR. LOVEMAKER - LYNDELL M 40 Very funky uptempo dancer. THE PARAMOUNTS - I WON'T SHARE YOUR LOVE / THE GIRLS WITH THE BIG BLACK BOOTS - MERCURY DEMO VG++ 50 SOLD Both sides glossy but with a few little pops here and there but both play great. Little label damage to a small part of the edge on 'Boots' NOLAN PORTER - IF I COULD ONLY BE SURE - ABC EX 75 SOLD Fantastic copy, the only thing keeping it from Mint is a non sounding mark on the vinyl near the run off. Guaranteed floor filler. LOU ROBERTS & THE MARKS - YOU FOOLED ME - MGM ISSUE EX 40 SOLD Very nice black stock copy. One or two non-sounding marks. Plays perfect. THE PETER HAMILTON GENERATION - HEY GIRL - JAMIE DEMO M- 100 SOLD Undoubtedly one of the greatest Northern Soul instrumentals ever made. This is the track that the Venicia Wilson record was built around of course. Old Wigan cover up...honestly if I could afford to keep this I would. This is 300 quid on JM's site. PRINCE & PRINCESS - STICK TOGETHER - BELL EX 30 SOLD Cracking oldie, totally forgotten CHERLY GRAY - YOU DON'T LOVE ME ANYMORE - AUSTRALIAN HMV EX+ 30 SOLD Rare Aussie only version of the Johnny Caswell classic LINDA JONES - MY HEART NEEDS A BREAK - LOMA EX 80 One or two marks but plays EX+ absolutely spot on PATTI PAGE - YOU DON'T NEED A HEART - COLUMBIA EX 35 SOLD Nice version of Teddy Randazzo. Plays mint, has a non sounding mark on the vinyl. (I always mention if a record has a mark whether it sounds or not - full disclosure!) VELVET HAMMER - HAPPY - SOOZI (PINK LABEL) M 40 SOLD Last time I listed this I had about ten calls on it! SPYDERS - I CAN TAKE CARE OF MYSELF - MTA EX 40 This is so rare on MTA stock copy, I think people don't realise. Was played as the alternative version to Gene Chandler back in late 76. DEE IRWIN - I ONLY GET THIS FEELING - IMPERIAL EX 30 SOLD Excellent uptempo dancer THE ACCENTS - WHO YOU GONNA LOVE / YOU BETTER THINK AGAIN - ONEDERFUL VG+ 100 SOLD Super-rare and a real top Chicago dancer. RareSoulMan's site describes it as being "usually an auction only item". Okay onto the condition, Who You Gonna Love looks a little scruffy but plays without a single problem, You Better Think Again label has name written on in ballpoint, vinyl looks VG, I have played it all the way through and I heard two tiny pops on . Otherwise plays like a champion! A really excellent double sider. Only had this once before. DANNY MOORE - SOMEBODY NEW - ALLRITE M 50 There must be someone somewhere who hasn't got a copy of this classic! JOHNNY NEWBAG - GOT TO GET YOU BACK - ATLANTIC DEMO EX 40 SOLD Pounding Catacombs dancer. X on label. Deep soul flip. Does look great on a demo. Sorry Ian thought you were on about two records. Yes I'm Gonna Hurt You was discovered before Secret Of Mine. I first heard it on a Soul Supply LP circa 1988 so it was obviously played before then (Stafford?) They are probably both the same value.
-
You could be right mate, my memory isn't what it was! I'm Gonna Hurt You was an 80's spin somewhere, Hey Girl, I don't know that one
-
She's got a great voice but why waste it on a crusty old backing track like that one?
-
I still don't think it's worth more than £350. If you're talking about Lost Soul...

THE THINKING MAN'S OLDIES # 7 HOPE YOU ENJOY THIS LATEST VOLUME, THE PREMISE IS THAT IT RUNS LIKE AN 'IDEAL' DJ SPOT, OF COURSE THIS IS NOW THE SEVENTH DJ SPOT AND THERE'S A FAIR BIT OF VARIETY BETWEEN THEM. Right this is my theory. If it was played - and I only refer to Wigan because I only went there - it was played before 1976 and after 1978 when it would have been a 'big oldie'. I can say that with confidence as I did not miss many weeks in those years and I don't ever remember hearing it. And it doesn't appear on any of my pre 1976 WIgan tapes, of which I have around 15. I did hear it at Birmingham Locarno alldayers though, late 78 early 79.

Elaborate Script Writing In The Vinyl ,what Is It ?
Pete S replied to Sceneman's topic in All About the SOUL
No I wasn't referring to Porkys, I know he did thousands (they were signed Peko or Pecko to start with for some reason, 72-73, I remember scratching that onto every one of my singles in 1973/74 so that they couldn't be nicked at parties!) -
I've got the tape, I'll try and find it this afternoon

Elaborate Script Writing In The Vinyl ,what Is It ?
Pete S replied to Sceneman's topic in All About the SOUL
Oh didn't realise he meant UK records. I think the artists must have been present at a lot of these master cutting sessions as the messages probably only make sense to them. On one of the Bowie singles from 79, might be "DJ" it says "My bicameral mind" on one side and "mind my bicameral" on the other? -

Pete S replied to Sceneman's topic in All About the SOUL
That's right. The script usually reads Nashville Matrix (or Nashville Mains) or Bell Sound. Pressing plants.
