  1. Practically ever UK major (and minor) label issued Northern Soul 45's during the boom years of 74 to 76. I actually listed all of them once!
  2. That's not exactly true, the best pair of sunglasses I ever had were knock offs. I am not now or have never been a pikey.
  3. I quite like The Flasher. I really like Life Is A Song Worth Singing by Mistura, thought that was something really different at the time.
  4. Unbelievably, I did not know the Righteous brothers did this song, I know it by the female version, The Blossoms, which is one of the greatest records ever made (and is also produced by Bill Medley) - Paul this is fantastic, thanks for the tip, absolutely magnificent - but not quite as good The Blossoms version which is a barely mentioned cheapie...words just cannot do justice to this track or Darlene Love's vocal performance
  5. Green demos with white A's, white demos with red A's, these are original British demos. There are loads of varieties of USA Motown demos, all depends where it was manufactured, an East Coast demo can have a different design to a West Coast demo. Some are white labels, some are coloured labels. Some have the map design, another will be the same record with a plain design. I'm sure it's all down to regional variations.
  6. "Ewan Renton from Darlington who impressed me on his last set at Seasons playing Razzy I Hate Hate". Cutting edge stuff eh?
  7. I suppose it's part of something that's been going on for years. I remember the first time Tim Tam & The Turnons was played at Wigan - march 11th 1978 to be exact, day after my 18th birtrhday which is why I remember (also cos I've still got it on tape) anyway I remember us being stunned that a record so terrible had been played and completely dumbstruck when it was played again by the same dj an hour later - and this time it packed the floor and did so for another 4 weeks or so. I, and my mates, could not get our heads around the fact that people could like such a record. Same thing as is happening today?
  8. Sooty I have to say, I really like what you've done with the music, usually when people fiddle about with Northern it ends up sounding crap but that Competition and Tombstones tunes are spot on, as is the Freddie Highes thing. very nice, well done.
  9. I didn't think it was very popcorn-ish or soulful. It was just...nothing...I do quite like the original version of Venus though
  10. I know but they owned them but as all the releases on CSP were either from Epic or Columbia, Okeh was obviously kept separate, which is what I was trying to say. At the time that the CSP 45's were done though, there were very few Okeh records being played, the only two "newies" were Major Harris and Ken Williams and those were barely played after 1975, so thats probably why no Okeh 45's were issued on CSP.
  11. I don't think it is the same company though Dave, Okeh must have been totally separate to Epic and Columbia where the other reissue tracks came from?
  12. Thats a kind of reissue of a reissue, and to confuse matters, there's also one with a picture of the girls as the label on red vinyl
  13. Two year gap Dave, they re-assessed the Okeh material and put out a couple of compilation albums and a handful of 45's, that was in 1976, the Okeh small 45 releases came out 73-74 time.
  14. You're right, how could I forget those...
  15. Yeah was excellent.
  16. Don't know if you realise but that Psychedelic Soul is an original. Come on everyone, get bidding. My commission is 20% https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Saxie-Russell-PSYCHEDELIC-SOUL-Thomas-Northern-Soul-record-45rpm-Vinyl-RARE-/190819666641?pt=UK_Records&hash=item2c6dbd0ad1
  17. He's on about the pink or yellow label Ted not the lookalikes
  18. Off the top of my head, these all came out at the same time. DANA VALERY - YOU DON'T KNOW VIBRATIONS - CAUSE YOU'RE MINE POPPIES - THERES A PAIN IN MY HEART LOU EDWARDS - TALKIN BOUT POOR FOLKS OTIS BLACKWELL -IT'S ALL OVER ME FRENCH FRIES - DANSE A LA MUSIQUE the latter four were massive 'big room' plays and the top two giant oldies. Six months later there were supposed Columbia Special product releases of HARRY BETTS - FANTASTIC PLASTIC MACHINE BOBBY DIAMOND - STOP but the labels were poor, very basic and I always doubted that these were proper licensed product
  19. It wasn't a really bump because the scans weren't mentioned in the first post so people who'd read it already wouldn't know about the scans... you serious about the £6.95? What just for mailer/three bits of card/record? An across the board rise of 60p? *are you sure it's not registered parcels that have gone up?
  20. Unsold records label scans can now be seen here https://www.raresoul.co.uk/wordpress/
  21. PETE SMITH 01902 326306 pete.smith@freeuk.com ALL ORIGINAL 45's THE FABULETTES - THE BIGGER THEY ARE (THE HARDER THEY FALL) - MONUMENT DEMO EX 50 St. Ives monster THE JEWELS - WE GOT TOGETHERNESS - MGM ISSUE EX 100 Very rare black label stock copy. Drill hole. THE EPITOME OF SOUND - YOU DON'T LOVE ME - SANDBAG VG++ 100 SOLD Has a little bit of speckling on the label, vinyl is fine with a couple of tiny crackles at start. I can't find the 'braille' numbers on this but it's Frankford/Wayne stamped and of course was not booted on the cream label LINDA JONES - MY HEART NEEDS A BREAK - LOMA (GREEN LABEL) EX 80 SOLD Gorgeous copy POINTER SISTERS - SEND HIM BACK - ATLANTIC DEMO EX 100 SOLD One of the top sounds ever in my opinion. Really nice demo. BILL PURSELL - HEARTBEAT - SPAR EX 150 Yes this old Soul Sam biggie is an acquired taste but it's probably the rarest release on the label and it's appearance at 200 quid elsewhere on the net would also suggest that. This is only the second original I've ever had. JEANETTE HARPER - PUT ME IN YOUR POCKET - 20TH CENTURY DEMO EX 175 Old Mecca / Wigan / Samantha's monster sound. PEARLEAN GRAY - I DON'T WANT TO CRY - GREEN SEA W/DEMO VG++ 40 Very rare white demo. Few marks and the odd crackle. Also some ring wear on raised part of label. Plays great though. THE HAPPY CATS - THESE BOOTS ARE MADE FOR WALKING - OMACK EX 50 OK so this doesn't exactly get spun out very often but as a record it's extremely scarce, and it's a reall belting instrumental...even sounds a little Detroit-ish to me. DENISE LASALLE - A LOVE REPUTATION - CHESS VG+ 25 SOLD Plays absolutely perfectly apart from some crackle on the intro, small writing on label and a few marks - bargain. SMOKEY & THE BEARS - WE TOGETHER BABY - DORE EX 35 Forgotten oldie - sounds like an instrumental based on "Louie Louie"! Twice this price elsewhere. THE SPYDERS - I CAN TAKE CARE OF MYSELF - GOLDEN STATE DEMO EX 40 SOLD Rare version from San FRancisco. THE VOLCANOS - STORM WARNING - ARCTIC DEMO VG++ 30 SOLD Nice one sided demo, writing on label (two big red crayon asterisks either side of the label) DENISE LASALLE - A LOVE REPUTATION - TARPON VG 25 SOLD Label wear and some harsh marks on the vinyl, actually plays really great but it's not pretty. The sort of thing someone would pay 80 quid for on Ebay though. Dark blue Tarpon label. THE OLYMPICS - THE SAME OLD THING - MIRWOOD EX 30 Brilliant oldie PAL & THE PROPHETS - PEACE PIPE - JAMIE W/DEMO EX 30 Really fast instrumental - this was slowed down later and covered up as Luther Ingram Orchestra - Stars Theme! THE VELVELETTES - A BIRD IN THE HAND (IS WORTH TWO IN THE BUSH) - VIP DEMO EX 30 SOLD Small sticker on label (promo man Kent Beauchamp) THE INSPIRATIONS - TOUCH ME, KISS ME, HOLD ME - BLACK PEARL EX 25 Nice oldie. B side is Funny Situation. CHERYL GRAY - YOU DON'T LOVE ME ANYMORE - AUSTRALIAN HMV EX 25 SOLD Female version of Johnny Caswell BOB BRADY & THE CON CHORDS - MORE MORE MORE OF YOUR LOVE - CHARIOT W/DEMO EX 25 This copy is pretty unusual in that it's the rarely seen West Coast styrene demo. Bit of spotting on the label. THE THREE DEGREES - CONTACT - WARNER BROS W/DEMO VG++ 40 SOLD Rare original demo. Has a few little marks and a couple of tiny clicks on the intro hence price. N.F.PORTER - KEEP ON KEEPING ON - LIZARD EX- 25 First issue. No real need for that minus on the ex- grade, it's just been played a few times OSCAR PERRY - WIND ME UP - YELLOW HORIZON EX+ 40 Rare crossover tune THE WONDERETTES - I FEEL STRANGE - RUBY VG+ 25 Actually plays beautifully but not the most handsome copy I've ever seen. Ring wear and two marker pen "R"'s on the label. PATTIE WARD - (GIRLS) YOU HAVE TO WAIT FOR LOVE - ROAD EX 40 Lovely crossover dancer - vinyl has some marks, not sure what from, but it plays more or less as new BEVERLY ANN - HE'S COMING HOME - RCA DEMO EX 75 SOLD Classic oldie SAM AMBROSE & FRIEND - THEY'LL BE COMING - CRAZY HORSE EX 30 SOLD No takers for this? - cracking instrumental OSCAR PERRY - MAIN STRING - PERI TONE EX+ 40 Classic 70's dancer HIGH VOLTAGE - COUNTRY ROAD - COLUMBIA W/DEMO EX 30 SOLD One of the best 70's dancers there is...wish I could still keep up with it MARVIN HOLMES & JUSTICE - YOU BETTER KEEP HER - BROWN DOOR EX+ 25 Mint copy, styrene.
