Just A Quickie, And Hopefully A Quick Answer If Poss'
Pete S replied to Northern Soul Uk's topic in Look At Your Box
It's actually rare on the US Congress original white demo. But it's very common on the US Congress white demo bootleg! rarely come across a real one. -
I've got 3 copies of I Saw The Light by Todd Rundgren just in case anything happens to my main one. Like me sitting on it or something. This is the only record I've ever bought more than one of for this reason. You cannot wear a record out if you look after it, it will play forever.

Must be thinking of his other one then...same label or similar, definitely dark blue
-
Ah thats a shame, I actually really thought it was obscure - never seen it in my life, always see Doug Gibbs (?) on that label.
-
£300 seriously - for that side?
-
Thanks Benji, much appreciated...

Doubt it, they were probably used as promos or giveaways, and I would have thought she was dead now - Astra Agency they were called, did all the local bands and also the early northern nights at the Civic and Wulfrun if I remember correctly - part owned the Lafayette?
-
doubt it, but I never knew they were also The Halos, almost everyone mentioned below had a record played on the NS scene The group originated in New Jersey as The Starlets which consisted of sisters, Barbara "Bibs"[1] and Phyllis "Jiggs"[1] Allbut, Bernadette Carroll, and Linda Malzone.[1] They had some minor local hits and wound up doing back-up work in the studio.[1] When Linda Malzone left, Linda Jankowski (later Jansen) became the new lead singer. Their manager, Tom DeCillis, turned his focus to Bernadette Carroll and dropped the rest of the group. Carroll would find solo success in 1963 with her Laurie single "Party Girl."[1] After a failed attempt at record deal with producer Gerry Granahan, the Allbut sisters turned their focus to education.[1] Phyllis Allbut was in teacher's college at the time and Barbara Allbut was accepted into the Juilliard School for her abilities as a musical arranger.[1] Soon Granahan, who had previously rejected the group, suddenly saw hit potential in the song they had performed for him in their audition, a version of "Till," and wanted them to record it in the studio.[1] "Til" became their first single under their new name, The Angels, and also their first hit (#14 US) released by Granahan's Caprice label in 1961.[1] The song was followed up with a less-successful single, "Cry Baby Cry." The Angels had one album on Caprice, titled ...And The Angels Sing in 1962. Jansen left the group in late 1962 to go solo and was replaced by Peggy Santiglia, formerly of The Delicates (with Denise Ferri and Arleen Lanzotti). Santiglia had sung jingles for WINS Radio, appeared on Broadway, and had songwriting experience.[1] In 1963, the triosigned to Mercury Records' subsidiary label Smash Records and began working with the Feldman-Goldstein-Gottehrer songwriting team, who wrote "My Boyfriend's Back". The Angels' performance (with Santiglia on lead) was originally intended as a demo for The Shirelles' consideration, but the music publishers chose instead to release it as it stood.[2] The song was a major hit, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100, but no follow-up of comparable success was released. "My Boyfriend's Back" sold over one million copies, and was awarded a gold disc.[3] The follow-up was the lower-charting "I Adore Him" (#25 US). The B-side "Thank You And Goodnight" was also favorable and charted at #84 US. During their Smash career, The Angels maintained a steady string of moderately successful singles which included "Wow Wow Wee (He's The Boy For Me)" (#41 US). Their album My Boyfriend's Back made the top forty, charting at #33[4] but their next, A Halo to You, didn't chart at all.[4] The group left Smash in 1964 and signed with Congress Records. The group became The Halos, following a dispute over the ownership of the name "The Angels." Peggy Santiglia took a leave of absence from the group in 1965 and was replaced by Toni Mason (Angie & The Chicklettes). The group released several more singles, none of which charted. Mason left the group in 1967 and was replaced by Debra Swisher (previously of The Pixies Three), who had recently recorded and released her own version of "Thank You And Goodnight" on the ABC-Paramount Records subsidiary, Boom Records. This lineup resumed using the name "The Angels" and released a handful of singles on RCA Records. Former Starlet Bernadette Carroll was back in the group and became the new lead. They appeared on "The Dean Martin Show" before disbanding in 1968. Santiglia and Phyllis and Barbara Allbut regrouped in the early 1970s and released a new single on Polydor Records. Phyllis Allbut and Santiglia still perform as The Angels, joined occasionally by Barbara Allbut.

I asked him (Jon Ford) if he had any copies of the record and he said that his management, Nita Anderson Agency based in Dudley, they got something like 5 copies from the record company and they gave him one copy, that's all he ever saw. I would think his other two Philips singles sold better because I've often seen them at boot fairs, record fairs etc.

Don't know about released, escaped maybe

Tezza, have a listen to this podcast, well listen to it from about 17 minutes when JV's spot starts, he plays Jon Ford as his second record, this is the only recording I have of this being played at Wigan. Can anyone tell me what price I should be asking for one of these, black lettering? * not to worry just seen a price
-
I've had 2 demos, last one was about 5 years ago, there is a topic elsewhere about this but I'd say there are probably only about 20 reported copies, one of which we know broke in the post!
-
Issue £100 - £125 Demo £200 - £300 (in my opinion)
-
Sorry Steve I wasn't bothered, really, just a strange thing to see when you've just got up.
-
So I shouldn't ask for help then?
-
That was the one.
-
Here is a little known fact. The UK demo is a different mix to the UK issue. It's either in stereo, or just a different mix, it's not quite as 'powerful' as the issue (in my opinon). It's also one of the rarest of all UK demos.

There was a great quote on here the other day from someone who was playing a record out and a guy came up to him and said "I've got that record" and the first guy asked him what he paid, and the second guy had paid twice as much as the first guy, so the first guy said "you paid twice as much as me", to which the second one replied "yeah but I bought mine off John Manship" expecting the other guy to be impressed by that fact. sorry just in case anyone thought I made this up here is the topic, it's post 24 half way down the page

Bit of a strange title for a topic, we all need a bit of help now and again, that's why were on this forum!

If you go in the sales section there are some 'pinned' topics at the top and these include the guidelines. -
Was a genuine release on UK Philips 1970. He had 3 releases I think after being previously known as Eli Bonaparte (had a small hit on Decca) in 1969. I've had email contact with him, he has no copies of his record, he lives about 3 miles away from me! First played by John Vincent, september 1975.
