Marjorie Black One More Hurt Demo Diff Take From Issue?
Pete S replied to slimharpo's topic in Look At Your Box
Two totally different takes for the Derek Martin record, one way more powerful than the other, sorry can't tell you whats what off the top of my head but I think the vinyl issue with the black face and the bass intro is the better one. -
If people use it as a GUIDE then there's no real problem. If people use it as a BIBLE then it starts to get silly. Of course the other use it has is for discographies, research, catalogue numbers etc etc, and edition number 5 with those colour plates of the bootlegs and pressings was / is an essential purchase in my opinion. It's worth £30 just for that information. No one is more against price guides than I am, but credit where it's due, that book was brilliant.

Been hanging around for ages Steve, didn't sell at 40, didn't sell at 35, so 30 was the bottom line, wouldn't have gone any lower than that though...or would I... LOL

That was great book, very funny read, only when I got to the end I thought someone had pulled the last page out because it just seemed to stop with no proper ending. I forget the chaps real name but he came to the KTF weekender at Llandudno, there's a picture I posted up of several of us and he's on the photo, never saw him again..
-
Cheers Ian, made a nice change actually that one yesterday, might do a few more like that, maybe one soul, one reggae, one everything...

Was on one of the first Cellarful of Motown double cd's I think - can't remember if it circulated before the cd's appeared - utterly brilliant track though, as are all of her Motown things
-
Well if a demo can sell for £300 this one's got to be worth a fair bit more than that!
-
If it's an OVO venue there's no way you can play it. If it's down your local pub, go for it!
-
It's very close - my Lou Pride had Reggie Garner on the other side, and my Dena Barnes had World Column on the other side. Sundown Records, £5, order on a friday afternoon and collect the following friday - we didn't know then but all their discs were cut by a certain Mr. Pep
-
I'm afraid it's not an authentic anything, that's just a custom made cut of two then indemand sounds, would have cost £5 back in 1975 when it was made.
-
Do you mean a proper EMI acetate of something that came out on one of their labels (or an unissued track) or an old one time rarity that was cut as a one off acetate to order? Most of the latter are completely redundant now as everything people used to get on Emidiscs came out or were bootlegged. (Emidisc was one of the old bootleggers favourite blank discs) A proper Emidisc - of course it could be played out without someone having you arrested.

How Do You Define R&b ? Split From Other Thread
Pete S replied to Sceneman's topic in All About the SOUL
There's no need for this hair-slitting. Yes it's an R&B record. Yes it's a soul record. Yes it's a Northern Soul record. In fact, it's also a pop record as it was released to sell copies and become popular. But the abiding opinion of 99.9% people will be - it's a classic Northern Soul record. -

No I'm afraid they would not. I don't know anyone who would not describe this as a Northern Soul record. You can twist my words to suit your own agenda as much as you like but you're going to have to accept that there is a separate genre of music known as Northern Soul. When Ady Croasdel agrees with me on something, there must be some part of it that rings true! -
Does This 60's Music Video Description Ring A Bell?
Pete S replied to Pete S's topic in Look At Your Box
I know the Exciters clip, it's not that one, and I'm pretty sure it's a standalone promo and not part of a movie or a tv show - the song is a beat ballad and a little different from the music that the artist usually does. Thanks for your suggestions, one of these days it'll hit me and I'll remember who it is, it's definitely on a sports field, to the right of her is either fencing or a building and she's walking alongside it, on her other side as I said, are sportsmen in a team strip, I can't remember if there's a crowd... -
Replied to your email Tony.

I was watching Arsenal v Everton so just had the Wolves match on the internet equivalent of Ceefax so I could see the score....ecstatic, no not really, I don't care anymore, not until this management goes, this isn't the club I used to go and watch..

How Do You Define R&b ? Split From Other Thread
Pete S replied to Sceneman's topic in All About the SOUL
I'm not getting into this again but if you read back I said that by their very nature they are all R & B artists making R & B records except several thousand of these records are referred to as Northern Soul not R & B, if you were discussing something like "I don't like to lose" by The Group you wouldn't immediately say oh what a great R & B record that is, you'd say isn't that a fantastic Northern Soul record. -
Evening folks. As Wolves are sure to lose tonight, I decided to cheer myself up with a new podcast. I wanted to get away from the usual cycle of Reggae then Northern Soul then more Reggae and so on, in the old days I used to stacks of these "Found In The Basement" type compilations, so here's a new one which I'm quite excited about. We've got some red hot Rockabilly, lots of brilliant Girl Group tracks, some UK psych, a rare unissued Rolling Stones track, some unknown (to me) Popcorn tunes, a bit of Northern, a great cover of a 1967 David Bowie lp track which is well worth hearing, and some classic Rhythm & Blues. Oh and a French version of Don't Pity Me and a Velvet Underground classic to end with.
