This is one of those strange black and white Treasure Isle labels Trojan used for a short period in 1973 (they used black and white versions of practically all of their labels for a couple of months) https://www.rare-soul.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/dennis-alcapone.jpg THE EAGLES — YOUR ENEMIES CAN’T HURT YOU — DUKE REID 2522 YOUR ENEMIES CAN'T HURT YOU / VERSION CONDITION: VG++ £25 Credited to Duke Reid Allstars on the label, this is one of the hardest Duke Reid 45's to find. https://www.rare-soul.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/reid-allstars.jpg DENNIS ALCAPONE & KEITH HUDSON — SHADES OF HUDSON — BIG SHOT 565 SHADES OF HUDSON / SPANISH AMIGO CONDITION: VG++ £40 Little crackle, nothing major, this is a really tough one to find, "Amigo" has a little noise towards the end but no real problems with either side https://www.rare-soul.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/keith-hudson.jpg PAT KELLY — NEVER GIVE UP — GAS 110 NEVER GIVE UP / WORKMAN SONG CONDITION: EX+ £30 https://www.rare-soul.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/pat-kelly.jpg THE HEPTONES — A CHANGE IS GOING TO COME — STUDIO ONE 2005 A CHANGE IS GOING TO COME / NOBODY KNOWS CONDITION: NEAR MINT £150 You will have to wait a long, long time before you see a better copy than this one, stunning vinyl and labels, plus two of the greatest tracks ever issued on Studio One. THE JOE WHITE SIDE HAS A SCRATCH WHICH MAKES IT STICK ON ONE GROOVE ON MY DECK, TINY BIT OF WEIGHT AND IT PLAYED THROUGH, BUT I'D ONLY GRADE THAT SIDE AS 'GOOD'. WAY OF LIFE PLAYS GREAT THOUGH, THAT'S THE SIDE I BOUGHT IT FOR. £50 https://www.rare-soul.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/lynn-tait.jpg BIG YOUTH — KEEP ON MOVING (VERSION) — UPSETTER 393 MOVING (VERSION) / UPSETTERS - CRUMMY PEOPLE CONDITION: VG++ TO EX- £15 B SIDE HAS A FEW MARKS MAINLY VG+ https://www.rare-soul.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/DSCN3715.jpg BOB MARLEY & THE WAILERS — SMALL AXE — UPSETTERS 357 SMALL AXE / ALL IN ONE CONDITION: VG TO EX- CRACKLY INTRO £15 https://www.rare-soul.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/DSCN3714.jpg NEVILLE GRANT — BLACK MAN’S TIME — UPSETTER 384 BLACK MAN'S TIME / ANSEL COLLINS - BLACK SUPREME CONDITION: VG++ TO EX £15 https://www.rare-soul.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/DSCN3713.jpg SLIM SMITH & DAVE BARKER — BLESSED ARE THE MEEK — UNITY 567 BLESSED ARE THE MEEK / JEFF BARNES - PEOPLE'S VOICE CONDITION: A SIDE VG TO VG++ B SIDE VG £20 https://www.rare-soul.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/DSCN3712.jpg KEN BOOTHE — MOVING AWAY — STUDIO ONE 2053 MOVING AWAY / COME TOMORROW CONDITION: VG TO VG++ £25 HAS WHAT LOOKS LIKE SILVER PAINT IN SOME GROOVES - HARDLY ANY NOISE CAN BE HEARD WHEN THE STYLUS PLAYS THROUGH THESE PARTS AT THE START, BUT A SMALL SPLASH AT THE END CAUSES A FEW CLICKS, THE REST PLAYS GREAT ACTUALLY. THE "TOMORROW" SIDE ALSO HAS A LITTLE OF THE SAME MATERIAL IN THE GROOVE BUT ONLY CRACKLES FOR A FEW ROTATIONS. So is the silver text one no longer a counterfeit?
-
I do it by more than 50% most of the time.
-
Hey Tim, 13 years ago I didn't receive a magazine, what have you got to say about that
-
Not booted? It was booted twice at least! First on the green label, identical but with silver lettering instead of gold. Then on the maroon label with very difficult to read print. Whether that was a legal reissue is a moot point, two reissues appeared within months of each other. Don't know about a light blue copy by the way.

Why Have People Who Should Have Written A Book Never Done So
Pete S replied to Pete S's topic in All About the SOUL
I keep toying with the idea of going round and interviewing people on video about their experiences on the scene and with collecting records, just to get it preserved. Even locally I can think of half a dozen interesting people. Budget would be zero and all could be uploaded so everyone could watch them. -
I don't think anyone specialises in soul books anymore, I might be wrong. I'd love to take them all of you but I couldn't afford to. And I'd immediately put them on Amazon anyway - you ought to consider that as an option, I've lost count of the stuff I've sold on there. I'd like a crack at R&B indies if you decide to set sale them though, I was truly upset to have to sell mine.

It was a much smaller room, lower ceiling, still had a balcony, small but longish dancefloor, crowds of people around the edges of it, there was often DS in the toilets, sound was too loud and I didn't spend a lot of time in there myself.

Northern Soul Memorabilia, Memberships, Patches Etc
Pete S replied to Pete S's topic in General Sales & Wants
Been offered £250. Going to be hard not to accept that...these iphones don't pay for themselves -
As a subscriber, I can assure you I did not receive all 3 issues or a cd! In fact I remember buying a copy at Blackpool Weekender (off Mark Bicknell I think) and saying I'd already paid for it but never received it.
-
Must be nice to not have to care if you sell anything or not though

What like say on for 10 days instead of 7? -
It was one of those 'pay your subs and get f*ck all back' jobs in the end.

Northern Soul Memorabilia, Memberships, Patches Etc
Pete S replied to Pete S's topic in General Sales & Wants
Paul, if I honestly knew I would be happy to but this is not my field of expertise, someone's offered me £125 for the lot but someone else said I should be looking at at least double that, so I think it's looking like an Ebay job...see what you mean though, if you re-frame it all, it would look nice -
Those South African copies are an enigma. Some people rate them, some don't. I just think they're a nice curiosity piece but in the case of that one, I wouldn't have thought more than £30 to be honest
-
If I was still collecting UK I would say that £250 to £300 would be a fair price for an issue copy. Much less for a demo but I can't tell you how tough that issue is.

Northern Soul Memorabilia, Memberships, Patches Etc

That first lot, I literally found those this afternoon in a little red box, I knew I'd got them but didn't know where they were, found by accident in the garage. -

Poll Northern Soul Showdown - Detroit Vs Philadelphia
Pete S replied to Mike's topic in All About the SOUL
Actually it's a little unfair because there are more Detroit tracks than Philly tracks on there -
Yeah I remember putting towards the collection, it was bought at a price way more than it was worth and I don't actually remember anything after that whatsoever!
