  1. I do a sliding scale every time I re advertise something so the £150 no sale would now be down to £1
  2. Just going offtopic a little, I used to see Mike Atherton at Brighton record fair and this one day he had four or five records on the Downey label (including Pat Powdrill - Do It) and he'd found them in a junk shop in Sussex along with handwritten letters, they were from a guy who was English but had moved out to L.A. to try and break into the music business, and he'd ended up working on these records for the Downey label. I wish I could remember his name, but he was definitely English, and he'd sent these records over to his parents so they could hear what he'd been working on.
  3. Oh God I hate that tune (Get Lucky) it's just so utterly sh*te, the lyrics must have been written by a 10 year old but it has that terrible way of sticking in your mind a bit like that Kylie record Can't Get You Out Of My Head with it's la la la chorus...
  4. MIke Atherton is a collector/write/seller, lived in Sussex for ages, can't remember where he is now but he does a list every three months or so - obviously there could be more than one! https://www.rocksbackpages.com/Library/Writer/mike-atherton
  5. It's nearly always one part of a record, maybe a couple of lyrics or a riff, then you have to try and think what it is and where it comes from, sometimes it can take hours, days even.
  6. I get loads of songs each day pop into my head, hardly any are soul, I immediately go and check to see if I have them in itunes and I add them to a playlist, there are a few hundred on the playlist but last few days I've added Arrows - A touch too much Lou Johnson or Adam Faith or Dionne Warwick - Kentucky blue bird (message to martha/michael) (just got a little bit of it repeating til I remembered the song) Cher - Dream baby Jay & The Americans - Come a little bit closer (I hate the song just kept hearing the line "she belonged to that man Jose" and had to try and remember what it was from) Max Romero - Chase the devil and so on and so on, each day
  7. So if I advertise something and it doesn't sell, I can then advertise it, again, exactly the same after 3 days, then if that doesn't sell, I can do a new ad every 3 days until in he end I have 150 ads for the same thing all 3 days apart?
  8. I thought it was against the rules two have two threads about the same sale - the idea is to bump the original thread once a day.
  9. Not sure about that. Think there are two groups with the same name. The more famous ones were a male group.
  10. I did a podcast last week and included a UK female version of this I had on a one off acetate.
  11. Love the fact that the same person who sold it to me keeps it back for 2 years then tries the same thing again thinking people will have forgotten!
  12. From 68 onwards the large centre holes were the norm, I'd say they are about 80% large and 20% push out, this went on until they started using those awful plastic moulded labels in 1972. As for this record being only 3 copies, come on, UK Philips from 71-72, they're going to be out there, it's just that people didn't know to look for it! They'd have pressed a thousand of these.
  13. It is a demo but only as much a demo as those with not for sale stickers on them
  14. SOLD, APOLOGIES FOR THE DELAY IN GETTING BACK TO THOSE WHO ASKED, HAD TO GO OUT FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS This is the second version, the first is the rocksteady version from 68, this is the first reggae version, the one that kicks off with "stick it up mister, put your hands in the air", there was a third version recorded a year or two after this. Record is in really excellent shape, doubt if you'd find a better player, tiny wol on the centre. B side vinyl has some marks on it where it has been in one of those plastic sleeves but they do not affect play. £40. hear it below. pete.smith@freeuk.com
  15. Six versions all in one clip here Simon
  16. I've got one, £15 (+ £2.40 recorded delivery 1st class), it's the really good lookalike - I can post tomorrow. Excellent nick...pm me if interested, ta
  17. Yes Dave that is definitely it, thanks - I wouldn't have remembered that title in a month of sundays
  18. I'd want more than that if I was selling it I think. £100 is a bargain.
  19. I once had for sale this US double LP, I think it was a film soundtrack circa 1973, anyway of all things it had Bobby Womack's "Nothing You Can Do" on it - the Northern rarity on the HIM label.
  20. Totally bogus, being doing the rounds for ages, sounds convincing but it's a fake - I received it too
  21. Did I sell you that Phil? If so, it's totally different to the released version. Brilliant track.
  22. We are obviously reading it differently then. People are being told it's wrong to buy reissues as it threatens their integrity. I changed that post anyway.
  23. "I'd better not buy this record I really like in case some old blokes on Soul Source who I've never met and am never likely to meet tell me off for buying the record on wrong label and talk about me to each other" cos their opinion REALLY matters
