  2. pete.smith@freeuk.com post extra (£2.40 recorded) cheers VALERIE & NICK - IT AIN'T LIKE THAT / YOU DON'T OWE ME ANYTHING - GLOVER W/DEMO EX £25 Hardest of their singles on this label, decent midtempo dancer, B side isa really nice midtempo the tune of which sounds like Patti Austin's "He's Good Enough For Me" THE WANDERERS - SOMEBODY ELSE'S SWEETHEART - CUB DEMO VG++ £30 Brilliant early dancer with ray Pollard on vocals. Really nice shape, only graded vg++ as it has a mark on the vinyl. Has radio station stamp and X. GOODIE WILSON - THE DOOR BELL RINGS - TITANIC EX £30 Classic popcorn style dancer NAT WRIGHT - I'M GLAD IT WAS YOU / RUN, SONNY, RUN - PETAL EX £60 Two early dancers, the very smooth "I'm Glad It Was You" and what I'd call 'novelty R & B' on the flip, "Run Sonny Run" with sound effects like search dogs barking etc. Rare single this, books and has sold for over £100. CALVIN WILLIAMS - LONELY YOU'LL BE / IT WON'T MATTER AT ALL - ATCO EX £30 Got to be a bargain for this excellent Detroit double sider, uptempo dancer on side one and a slower paced midtempo tune on the flip DORIS WILSON - BIG FLAME (IS GONNA BREAK MY HEART IN TWO) - AUTHENTIC SOLD VG++ £50 Well not sure about this one, it books at £300 but I've never had any interest in it, this copy has some surface marks hence my grading but it plays absolutely EX with no scratches, clicks, nothing thats stops it playing perfectly. So JM has it at £300 but no popsike copies have ever fetched anything like that, so..£50? MAURICE WILLIAMS - DON'T BE HALF SAFE - DEESU VG++ £15 Another nice double sider from Maurice Williams, "How To Pick A Winner" on the flip, has a few non-sounding marks and a little label damage to both sides. RUBEN WRIGHT - HEY GIRL / I'M WALKING OUT ON YOU SOLD EX £15 Excellent pairing of two uptempo dancers, surprisngly this came out on UK Capitol as well KING WILLIAMS - PATIENCE BABY / FIGHT FOR YOUR GIRL - MGM EX £15 A nice midtempo dancer back with a huge, deep voiced beat ballad, I'd really recommend that B side if you like the likes of "The Panic Is On" THE TAMS - UNTIE ME / DISILLUSIONED - ARLEN SOLD EX £15 Two good early dancers, especially "Untie Me". Rare label design (apparently), logo to the left of the label. Thanks for reading, ten more tomorrow. 07772 616402 if anyone needs to speak to me about any records

  6. Absolutely, thanks Ricky.
  7. No, I know you're not, we had a chat about this the other day re the early Blue Beats, but that music is more like jitterbug or jumpin jive, whatever it's called, it honestly bears no resemblance to ska music, it doesn't even have any musical link (as far as I can tell) to New Orleans R&B, which are the real roots of the actual ska sound.
  8. Can't find this one anywhere, it's kind of rocking r&b, just wondered if worth anything?
  9. Well this time Buster is talking utter rubbish I'm afraid
  10. It didn't "kick off the Ska boom", whatever that means - he was playing it for years as his theme tune at dances. Ska was 5 years away...
  11. It's definitely not the 1976 styrene pressing, different colour blue and silver.
  12. Doesn't look like styrene to me to be honest
  13. Might have been me, but if it was, it will take me forever to find it again as it's saved to a disc. Having said that, when we've had discussions about rare issues, I put it up here a couple of times. I asked the seller if he'd take $250 for it as it had no bids and he said yes, this was in 2000 though...
  14. Thanks very much. Was doing an LA podcast and wasn't sure.
  15. I've had one of these, I thought I sold it to Mick Smith but he says not, so he had one too - so I've only seen one copy, ever.
  16. https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/mayfairmenthol/m.html?_ipg=48&_sop=10&_rdc=1 a really decent selection of rare and not so rare tunes
  17. Ady, or anyone, was the Era based in L.A. or New York?
  18. I would help out of I could, really.
  19. Probably the same as the US Veep one to be honest - £30. I've had one years ago. Bit of a specialist market so sometimes the Canadian things are hard to sell.
  20. 23. NEW NORTHERN OLDIES SELECTION I know some of us have heard 'em all before but I like these oldies podcasts to reach the ears of people who are maybe just testing the water as far as Northern Soul goes, there's a lot of stuff out there and I like to think that the Northern selections I do are of a pretty high standard and a good place for people to start. I maybe wrong, I don't know! One things for certain, play this lot out in a set and you won't get many empty floors. 24. RECORD BREAKER These are just a few 45's I've bought recently but I wanted to highlight the track "Record Breaker" by Sir Scorcher & The Black Emeralds because to most ears this would sound like prime Studio One material circa late 68 - early 69, except it's actually a 2013 release - possibly the most authentic attempt at recreating the classic early Reggae sound. It's on the Jan Disc label and even looks like an old UK release, complete with push out centre. Meanwhile, The Allentons Rocksteady tune, "Dreams", is also a contemporary release which brilliantly echoes the late Rocksteady period. Also worth noting is the semi-instrumental version of "The Israelites", lots of these previously unissued backing tracks of old classics are sneaking out on Beverleys reissues. THE CRYSTALITES - SLIPPERY JOHNNY MELODY - GOVERN YOUR MOUTH HOPETON LEWIS - COOL COLLIE NOEL BROWN - MAN'S TEMPTATION BEVERLEYS ALL STARS - SMOKE SCREEN SOUL BOYS - BLOOD PRESSURE RITA MARLEY - A DEH PON DEM COUNT STICKY & THE UPSETTERS - ROCKFORT PSCHEDELIA NOEL BROWN - HEARTBREAK GIRL VAL BENNETT - VAL BLOWS IN THE SKATALITES - DR. RING DING BABA BROOKS - SLY MONGOOSE ERIC MONTY MORRIS - BLACKMAN SKA LEE PERRY - ROAST DUCK ROBERT MARLEY - ONE CUP OF COFFEE ERIC MONTY MORRIS - A SPOT IN MY HEART FOR YOU FERDIE NELSON - SKA DOWN JAMAICA WAY THE MAYTALS - DO THE REGGAY VAL BENNETT - SOUL SURVIVOR DESMOND DEKKER & BEVERLEYS ALL STARS - ISRAELITES VERSION THE CRYSTALITES - TONIGHT VERSION SIR SCORCHER & THE BLACK EMERALDS - RECORD BREAKER GLEN ADAMS - SHE'S SO FINE (HARMONY BACKING) THE ALLENTONS - DREAMS https://www.mixcloud.com/mayfairmenthol/record-breaker/
