Hadn't seen this before, hope it may be of interest, every Red Bird issue and demo pictured, but no Ellie Greenwich issue? https://www.the-discographer.dk/vinyl/red-bird-disko.pdf

Have a listen and see if you can make out the voice - Martyn Ellis is definitely on there - I wouldn't have recognised Kev Roberts or Ian Fishwick's voices so it may be one of them. Or not - I don't know, I didn't record it. And to Eddie, by the same token as some of those titles being 'later' - others are positively ancient and well known from other venues, Nancy Ames, Frank Beverly etc
-
I'm losing my marbles here, there was a post from Kev Roberts which I can't see now, and my reply to him which I also can't see now, where did they go? * oops they are on the actual tape topic, ignore this
-
Have a listen then Kev, see if you can make out the voices - one is definitely Martyn Ellis - I said the other was 'probably' Richard

I've had at least 5 copies of Chapter Five and I've had two John Andrews demos and one issue. The last demo I sold about 3 years back for £300. It sure is a tough record to find but It's not gone up £700 in that time, surely.

Chris, it may well have been Stella Starr, I just presumed it was Cissie Houston. Whoever sent the original tape wrote the date on it, so I just went by that. I'm not going to question the memory of the person who recorded it. By the time I was 'on the scene' which was about 12 to 18 months after this tape was recorded, most of these were being played at our youth club, so had obviously all been pressed. As someone said, Joe Hicks managed to avoid the bootleggers until 1976, Lou Ragland until 1977. And everyone - as for the 'real' date - it doesn't really matter does it? You're getting some priceless nostalgia, and it's free.

I'd hate to shop where you do!

It is up Jim, in audio / video section

Time for another Casino tape and this one is a very rare one. This tape is from October 1973, the earliest Wigan tape in existence as far as I know, just a month into the Casino's lifespan. The playlist is pretty much as to be expected, mainly comprising records from The Cats, The Torch and places like Va Va's. Much of the tape was cut to pieces where the original taper started recording then changed his mind. Tracks I had to cut off this tape included Terrible Tom, Jr Walker (I Ain't Goin' Nowhere), Morris Chestnut, Freddie Chavez and Lou Ragland (I Travel Alone). Very interesting to see LOU RAGLAND in there though, I had no idea until today that this was spun and then dropped for 3 or 4 years. It's a fabulous tape, usual mono quality, great atmosphere and the clapping during Mike Post Coalition is spine tingling. You'll wish you were there - I did! DJ's are cut from the tape mainly but I can definitely hear Martyn Ellis and probably Richard Searling. JOE HICKS - DON'T IT MAKE YOU FEEL FUNKY SAXIE RUSSELL - PSYCHEDELIC SOUL AUDIO ARTS STRINGS - THERE IS NOTHING ELSE TO SAY STANLEY MITCHELL - GET IT BABY TONY & TYRONE - PLEASE OPERATOR JOHNNY CASWELL - YOU DON'T LOVE ME ANYMORE NANCY AMES - I DON'T WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT LYNNE RANDELL - STRANGER IN MY ARMS VOLCANOS - THE LAWS OF LOVE LEE ANDREWS - I'VE HAD IT THE SAPPHIRES - THE SLOW FIZZ EDDIE FOSTER - I NEVER KNEW THE ADVENTURERS - EASY BABY FRANK BEVERLEY - IF THAT'S WHAT YOU WANTED CISSIE HOUSTON - BRING HIM BACK CUT GLORIA JONES - TAINTED LOVE LEON YOUNG STRINGS - GLAD ALL OVER DETROIT SOUND - JUMPING AT THE GO GO MIKE POST COALITION - AFTERNOON OF THE RHINO GOLDEN WORLD STRINGS (TOTAL ECLIPSE) - SUPERTIME THE JELLY BEANS - YOU DON'T MEAN ME NO GOOD FREDDIE CHAVEZ - THEY'LL NEVER KNOW WHY https://www.mixcloud.com/mayfairmenthol/wigan-casino-earliest-recording-october-1973/

I was just getting this tape ready to put up as a podcast and thought it would make interesting reading if I posted up the track list. This tape is from October 1973, the earliest Wigan tape in existence as far as I know, just a month into the Casino's lifespan. The playlist is pretty much as to be expected, mainly comprising records from The Cats, The Torch and places like Va Va's. Very interesting to see LOU RAGLAND in there though, I had no idea until today that this was spun and then dropped for 3 or 4 years. It's a fabulous tape by the way, look out for it later on, great atmosphere and the clapping during Mike Post Coalition is spinte tingling. DJ's are cut from the tape mainly but I can definitely hear Martyn Ellis and probably Richard Searling JOE HICKS - DON'T IT MAKE YOU FEEL FUNKY SAXIE RUSSELL - PSYCHEDELIC SOUL AUDIO ARTS STRINGS - THERE IS NOTHING ELSE TO SAY EDDIE FOSTER - I NEVER KNEW MIKE POST COALITION - AFTERNOON OF THE RHINO MORRIS CHESTNUT - TOO DARN SOULFUL CUT STANLEY MITCHELL - GET IT BABY TONY & TYRONE - PLEASE OPERATOR JOHNNY CASWELL - YOU DON'T LOVE ME ANYMORE UNKNOWN INSTRUMENTAL (sounds a bit like You Want It You Got It) NANCY AMES - I DON'T WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT JR WALKER - I AIN'T GOIN' NOWHERE TERRIBLE TOM - WE WERE MADE FOR EACH OTHER LYNNE RANDELL - STRANGER IN MY ARMS EARL JACKSON - SOUL SELF SATISFACTION VOLCANOS - THE LAWS OF LOVE LEE ANDREWS - I'VE HAD IT THE SAPPHIRES - THE SLOW FIZZ EDDIE FOSTER - I NEVER KNEW THE ADVENTURERS - EASY BABY FRANK BEVERLEY - IF THAT'S WHAT YOU WANTED CISSIE HOUSTON - BRING HIM BACK GLORIA JONES - TAINTED LOVE LOU RAGLAND - I TRAVEL ALONE PHIL FLOWERS - DISCONTENTED LEON YOUNG STRINGS - GLAD ALL OVER DETROIT SOUND - JUMPING AT THE GO GO MIKE POST COALITION - AFTERNOON OF THE RHINO GOLDEN WORLD STRINGS (TOTAL ECLIPSE) - SUPERTIME THE JELLY BEANS - YOU DON'T MEAN ME NO GOOD FREDDIE CHAVEZ - THEY'LL NEVER KNOW WHY

Just shows though doesn't it, he had two big reissue 45's out, the London issue of Night Owl (b/w Yvonne Baker) must have sold around 15,000 copies and I Walked Away maybe 10,000 copies, but all the royalties went elswhere - and that was from two legitimate UK releases.

Seller is a member on here and used to be on a fair bit, shame he hasn't joined in with the thread
-
It's actually not a hard boot to get though, people shouldn't really pay more than £10 for it, neither is Lenny Curtis. Eddie Parker is pretty scarce but not worth anything like the price it sells for. Something like Rufus Wood "Before 2001" is a rare one.

I knew, but only because someone told me recently, it's just that I can't remember it being announced on here, if it has been then I apologise for repeating bad news, but it is pretty sad This is from his wife....to Ian Levine Hi Ian, OK now I feel better talking to you about BOBBY...We moved from Hollywood, CA to Las Vegas, NV in 2006 and bought a nice house...He was working on his album, but was always tired, then his son Bobby Jr. was killed in a car accident in Jan.2007 and he and I both became very depressed...he started going to the doctor who started draining his blood every week as they said it was to thick...after draining his blood doctors said he was doing fine, but he was sleeping more and more...then one night he felt so bad I took him to emergency...they started doing a lot of tests one being a bone marrow and they found out he had Leukemia...they only gave him 2 weeks to 2 months to live...I was ready to take him home at 4:00pm September 24, 2009 and he died at 3:50pm...what a shock that was because he never complained of any pain, was just tired...I lost my BEST friend, we knew each other since 1969, but did not marry until Feb. 27, 2001...Ian if you could let people know of Bobby's passing I would really appreciate it as I do not know how to google it...if not that's OK too...Over the Christmas Holidays my cousin who is in a band is going to help me with Bobby's music...so maybe there will be 1 more album...Well one more ting and its a big thing, Ian THANK YOU SOOO MUCH for all you did for him...

That's a great track. I'm a closet Lesley Gore fan. I recently got everything she ever recorded including a few demos. Whittled them down to beat ballads, classic girl group sounds and dancers, got rid of all the schmaltz, ended up with a cracking 38 track compilation.

OK not really much point in everyone saying their copy is not off centre is there just rubs it in
-
Wait a minute, didn't realise it was on UK MGM. It is rare - I'd have thought £60 maybe.

It's just my bad luck Mick, probably the only one in the batch that's offcentre!
-
I'm not sure it ever was, I think it might just be one of those collectors records. I've never heard it played anywhere.

pete.smith@freeuk.com post extra Here's 10 more excellent original 45's for sale - oops actually it's 11 today THE SKYLINERS - EVERYTHING IS FINE - JUBILEE SOLD EX £10 A truly stunning record which never went big when it so deserved to, probably too many copies and not rare enough, but quality wise, this is up there with the best male vocal group records. THE SONNETTES - I'VE GOTTEN OVER YOU - KO KNOCKOUT EX £20 Another one which used to be around in quantity, though not on this very first press with different label design. Excellent midtempo dancer. ROSCOE SHELTON - WHO WALKS IN (WHEN I WALK OUT) - SOUND STAGE 7 EX £15 One of his more obscure dancers, string laden uptempo tune and a real gower. Deep flip. Was surprised to see you didn't know the Tom Green, knowing what you know Ian, been a play out record for lots of people for 12 or so years, one of those very obscure late Action 45's on the grey label.

Reissue is styrene with stuck on label - original isn't :-)
