HOLD ON No I've got all this completely wrong, I should be saying december 1980 not 79, I was basing it all off the 7th anniversary tape but that was 1980 not 1979, sorry folks
-
No I guessed at the date and I only came up with that because there were several records played at the 9th anniversary (9 tracks actually) that were also on this playlist, so it's there or thereabouts, but the writing on the tape has faded completely so I can't tell for sure to be honest. Cecil washington wasn't discovered at the september anniversary though so it's definitely after that.
-
Can't do it Eddie, sorry, it would mean having to listen to all that modern stuff in real time, anyway it's a truly terrible atmosphere, the recording is very good but it sounds like the place is empty, I hate to remember it like that. You can have the tape if you want it though, I'll never use it.

Thanking you Jim

Going through these minidiscs and I recorded them all off vinyl between 1998 and 2001, so a long time ago for me to remember all of them. Male group sound, called (Talking About) This Little Girl Of Mine, thats the chrous followed by 'she makes my lovelight shine' and 'she makes me feel so fine'. Midtempo, Stafford era sounding. Anyone please - Major IV??

I just found mine, a SonyNet MD Walkman MZ-N510, recordable, it works superbly although the mains lead is missing and so is the software. Can anyone point me to where I could download the software to enable me to get it to work with a pc (or mac). If I plug the walkman into the pc, it installs the driver software but I can't see it anywhere. p.s. the software is called SonicStage I think

Its is nice - all her records are nice - the other side of this is better. And I still need a copy of The One Who Really Loves You on Oriole.
-
I know, thats how I identified it for definite - it's scratched to buggery though! (Not on that track fortunately)
-
Not seen but do you mean My Life With You? £70 tops?

Reading back through the topic though, I hadn't really thought about this 'nostalgia' scene thing before, but it does seem as if people are specifically dressing up in the old 'uniform' to attend some events. This would be akin to going to a 50's night and dressing up as a Teddy Boy rather than wearing normal clothes. So do people do it just so they can dress up and relive their youth, do they have any interest in seeing the scene continue via new discoveries? I think we know the answer, sadly.

I know what you mean, very restrictive!

Once again, the mystery of the JM auctions. JACKIE TRENT - ONLY ONE SUCH AS YOU - PICCADILLY. This attained the incredible price of £184 in a January auction, and of course in the next few weeks loads of copies turned up for sale on Soul Source, from £40 to £70 mainly. Many of us were astonished at the auction price as prior to that it was worth about £10. Anyway it would be interesting to know if anyone actually sold a copy. I picked one up off Ebay, from the Soul section, for £6.50 on sunday, and that despite there were 11 bids, nobody bid higher than £6.50! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/231019433233?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 The same has happened several times, most notably with the Jackie Edwards "Come On Home" which went for £300 plus despite it only being worth £20. I sold a mint one to someone who offered me £80 for it but otherwise I struggled to get £20 for my other spare copy. I think the auctions are great entertainment but I am still trying to work out why people pay astonishing sums of money for such common records, records which can easily be found cheaply with a couple of mouse clicks.

Several of these had two presses (some had three), for instance, Salvadors, Anderson Bros and George Blackwell came as really good PB counterfeits, followed a couple of months later by styrene copies which wouldn't fool anyone but still had PB in the run out. I'll try and remember some more titles but it was around the time of Mel Britt, Joe Hicks etc -
This is a character from a game Sam plays...nice trousers!

Yeah but I've been to Stoke many times, last time was 3 years ago, didn't enjoy it at all, but as I said, if I had to choose...and I probably didn't enjoy it as I drove myself there so couldn't have a drink or anything else come to that so probably wasn't entering into the spirit - I know I left at 1.30

Same here, you will get people saying that everyone stopped wearing them in 78 but I finally got rid in about October 79 when I went to see the Undertones and knew I'd look out of place in baggies. I remember wearing some straight Levis cords in 78 and people I knew on the soul scene p*ssing themselves laughing at me originally, when I started senior school in 1971, it was "oxford bags' which were baggy but about half as baggy as things like Karman Ghia which came in 1974, oh and in 72-73 we had "Skinners", again a kind of parralel type jean but still not outrageously baggy
-
Chalky I used to have a handful of Stafford tapes but they got lost in a move, but I know who does have some, cos he got them for me - Rob Pheasant from Willenhall. He goes on ebay and youtube as Robin Of Sherwood should you think it's worth contacting him.
-
Yes UK only - phenomenal stomper loved by about 3 of us - produced by Claire Francis who did some cracking stuff for Polydor before going off and marrying a red Indian. Sonny Childe was Sam Cooke's nephew - or similar relation - and he had a hit two years later with Take A Letter Maria, recorded under his real name of R.B Greaves.

I THINK THERE'S 167 DIFFERENT TITLES HERE, AROUND 185 RECORDS ALTOGETHER, MIXTURE OF 60'S SOUL, SWEET SOUL, DOO WOP, SOME ROCK N ROLL, 70'S SOUL, NORTHERN, THE LOT REALLY. I HAVE GRADED ALL VISUALLY. If I was being asked that question and if I had the choice, which one would I go to on the evidence we have seen in this topic - I'd go to Stoke
-
I don't really like white pop stuff though - well I do, I love it but I like to collect it and listen to it here at home, I hated it when they used to play loads of it out, didn't mind one or two of the really good ones, Chapter Five etc.

Wales I think mate

Someone's got copies on ebay already, 10.99

Welcome to disagree Steve. I've never heard as much dross as this played. Well maybe one night in 1978 on a Keith M spot. But at least it was Northern.
