Without a picture of it there's no point asking about it. I could make you a Jobete acetate in a week. So could anyone else. -

Northern Soul - An Illustrated History - Out Now Competition

I spoke to Mick about this yesterday and he says it's 100% true that the guy has the film, he just no interest in either NS or the film and is happy to keep it in his attic or wherever... -
IT'S BEEN EMOTIONAL For all lovers of soulful midtempo movers, big city beat ballads and emotional wrist-slashers in general. This is a truly awesome mix of some of the greatest 45's of this genre, some extremely well known, some largely unknown or simply forgotten. There are another two episodes two come, I was on such a roll that I selected over 90 tracks so I've split them into three separate mixes. So pour yourself a glass of your favourite tipple, turn the lights down, put the old feet up and let these soulful sounds of the 60's take you off to another planet...p.s. the Buddy Smith was a request BIG DEE IRWIN - YOU CAN'T STOP ME LOVING YOU ARTIE FULLILOVE - THANK YOU FAYE CRAWFORD - WHAT HAVE I DONE WRONG THE DIPLOMATS - LOVE AIN'T WHAT IT USED TO BE DEON JACKSON - HUSH LITTLE BABY GWEN STACEY - AIN'T GONNA CRY NO MORE BUDDY SMITH - WHEN YOU LOSE THE ONE YOU LOVE HOLLY MAXWELL - ONLY WHEN YOU'RE LONELY LENNY WELCH - THE RIGHT TO CRY BRUCE SCOTT - YOU CAN'T LOSE SOMETHING YOU'VE NEVER HAD BARBARA MILLS - TRY DEE DEE WARWICK - DON'T THINK MY BABY'S COMING BACK JIMMY HELMS - YOU'RE MINE, YOU LINDA CARR - A HEART WITHOUT LOVE THE EPSILONS - I'M SO DEVOTED JACK MONTGOMERY - DON'T TURN YOUR BACK ON ME BROOKS ODELL - WATCH YOUR STEP JUDY CLAY - HAVEN'T GOT WHAT IT TAKES ESTHER PHILLIPS - JUST SAY GOODBYE ANNABELLE FOX - LONELY GIRL EDDY HUGHES - SOUL SEARCHER KELL OSBOURNE - QUICKSAND BOBBY REED - I'LL FIND A WAY JERRY JACKSON - I'M GONNA PAINT A PICTURE FREDDIE HOUSTON - IF I HAD KNOWN DUSTY WILSON - IT'S GOING TO BE A TRAGEDY DAVE HALL - LOOK AT ME JOHNNIE MAE MATTHEWS - I HAVE NO CHOICE CLYDIE KING - SOFT AND GENTLE WAYS H.B. Great topic, great music, well done all contributors and topic starter!

One of my discoveries. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. I must have recorded this for half the population of the UKin the 80's. I mentioned this before but one day in London in 1988 I found a copy of this at Out On The Floor, a demo copy for £3, but I left it cos I'd already got it. I went back 3 years later and it was still there, so I bought it. Nobody took any notice of it in 3 years...
-
Check this two out by Jerry Butler, totally ignored tracks, both super beat ballads (I Can't Stand To See You Cry / You Came Into My Life)
-
See this is the big question. If I was to buy one of these at £250, could I ever sell it at a profit - or in fact, could I ever sell it at all? Because it's only auction nutters who make these records fetch such prices.
-
All that money for a Moody Blues cover version! Having said that...I've never seen a copy of that Ellen & The Shandells in the flesh.
-
You're right, this used to be on a par with something like Cody Black on Ram Brock, in fact they probably came out of the same soul packs, it's so inferior to The Magnetics that nobody wanted it. That's the truth.

Camera crew to film at northern soul bash Written byBY LISA BUCKLEY A CAMERA crew is to descend on a Nuneaton nightspot. The BBC will be at the Co-op Club tomorrow (Saturday) night to record Mark Freeman’s latest Oldies Soul All Nighter. Footage taken from the event, which starts at 8.30pm and runs right through until 6am the next morning, will feature on a forthcoming special edition of the Culture Show which is to be broadcast later in the year on BBC2. “The BBC are filming in Stoke, Wigan and in Nuneaton for a Culture Show special on the thriving Northern Soul club scene,” explained Mr Freeman from Nuneaton who has been putting on the popular nights at the Dugdale Street-based club for the past seven years. “Northern Soul is just getting bigger and bigger, and they wanted to film where it’s most popular, so Nuneaton was the place to go. “And the camera crew are to stay for the duration. “They are to do some filming in the afternoon of some of the DJs and then come back and film the night. “The results are to be in a Culture Show special which is supposed be broadcast some time in September.” It was back in 2006 that Mark ‘Fluff’ Freeman, launched the dance nights. They soon became a must for local soul movers and shakers. They now welcome people from up and down the entire country as they make a regular pilgrimage to the town. Tomorrow’s offering will see a host of DJs take to the decks to entertain those hitting the packed out dance floor. As well as Mr Freeman himself, there will also be Ian Jones, Daz Dakin, Dick Crop, Trickster and Sam Evans, Ian Stacey, Colin James and Andy Baskett. Entry to the soul celebration is priced at £7 per person before 10.30pm and £10 after that time. For more information interested parties can call 07718 496 968. Other Oldies All Nighters for this year are to take place on October 12 and December 14.

Jeez yes, those lyrics, his voice - almost makes you want to cry - I suppose that's that the very best soul music can do. I'd never heard this before.

I can top that - here's one I was selling in April - £175
-
It's no better than Johnny Vanelli
-
YEP THAT WAS THE DESTINY LP "THE RECORD COLLECTOR" FROM 1979. I NEVER HEARD IT BEFORE IT APPEARED ON THERE EITHER. Sorry about the caps lock!
-
Can't remember who it was cover up as though, can you? I do remember Dave McCadden uncovered Billy Watkins, Joey Heatherton and Paula Durante all at the same time...to much consternation
-
Pretty certain Billy Watkins was Richard Searling at Wigan late 76 or early 77, dropped when Dave McCadden revealed who it actually was in Black Echoes.

Remember it distinctly and even had it on tape, asking for a show of hands. They took no notice and those 2 consecutive weekends were truly awful, until 4am in the morning when the lights went off and the opportunists who were only there to jump in front of the camera f*cked off. If you were a casino regular, watch the footage and see how many of the people you remember and how many were never seen again.

It's from 1975 but not the 2nd anniversary.
