  1. You should get along to Ian Levine's new venture when that kicks off, sounds like what he says he's going to do. (but thats based in London which will put loads off going)
  2. If you have a listen, it's a totally different version to the one on Fat Fish, a very early version, a bit faster, different arrangement. From a Screen Gems-Columbia acetate.
  3. Tainted Love bootleg - "East Coast vinyl promo - stamped!" starting bid £150 buy it now £250. Jeez.. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NORTHERN-GLORIA-JONES-TAINTED-LOVE-CHAMPION-EAST-COAST-VINYL-PROMO-LISTEN-/321211074857?pt=UK_Records&hash=item4ac9ac0929
  4. The guns get discharged
  5. For those of you suffering from Reggae withdrawal, I hope this helps, it's mainly classic Skinhead Reggae sounds, with a couple of Rocksteady and Ska tracks included to mix things up a little. One interesting track is the steel drum version of The Slickers tune "Nana" which come from an acetate, I'm afraid my recording is very quiet so you'll have to turn it up considerably but it's well worth hearing and has never been included on a compilation or a reissue as far as I know. The rest - mainly my old favourites plus some really good rarer items from 1968-69. ERIC BARNETT - QUAKER CITY THE UNIQUES - LOVE AND DEVOTION CARL DAWKINS - I'LL MAKE IT UP THE INSPIRATIONS - LOVE OH LOVE THE SPARKERS - SONG OF THE YEAR ROLAND ALPHONSO - MUSICAL RESURRECTION THE KINGSTONIANS - PUT DOWN YOUR FIRE CHARLIE KELLY - IF I WERE TO BLAME THE HAMLINS - SUGAR AND SPICE UNCREDITED (SIR COLLINS) - NANA (STEELS VERSION) THE TARTANS - LONELY HEARTACHES THE KINGSTONIANS - SUFFERER DERRICK HARRIOTT - BEEN SO LONG THE SOUL SISTERS - WRECK A BUDDY BOB MELODY - THE BREAK ERIC MONTY MORRIS - SAY I'M BACK PATSY - GIVE ME A CHANCE THE AFROTONES - FREEDOM SOUND THE MAYTALS - DO THE REGGAY JUNIOR SOUL - THE HUSTLER THE HEPTONES - GIVE ME THE RIGHT AUDREY & THE DREAMERS - I SECOND THAT EMOTION THE SKATALITES - RUSSIAN SKA FEVER BUSTERS ALLSTARS - JET 707 THE SKATALITES - DOCTOR KILDARE TYRONE EVANS - IF THIS WORLD WERE MINE DELROY WILSON - THIS LIFE MAKES ME ALVA LEWIS - RETURN HOME SCOTTY - SESAME STREET DENNIS ALCAPONE - THE GREAT WOGGIE ERROL DUNKLEY - THE PRODIGAL RETURNS SHORTY THE PRESIDENT - HALFWAY TREE PRESSURE BASIL DALEY - HOLD ME BABY https://www.mixcloud.com/mayfairmenthol/do-the-reggae-68-style/
  6. So that's where my Gran's tablecloth ended up
  7. I don't know Win, I don't go, Mick does and I was just repeating what he told me to say (not sure why he won't post himself mind)
  8. I know where you're coming from and have to agree, the baggies were really good for dancing in compared to say a pair of Levi jeans. It's funny, when I first started dancing in 'normal' trousers I really missed the swish of the baggy trousers round the bottom of the legs. Anyone remember trousers that came in, 78-79, or they were probably better known as "pegs", baggy at the top, tapered, they were called Skids trousers sometimes because Stuart Adamson from The Skids had them on on the Into The Valley sleeve.
  9. I know when I stopped going they did not have that outlet upstairs so they must have started it after August 78, the ads in Black Echoes will probably reveal everything
  10. Just talking to Mick Smith, said he only caught the last 5 minutes and was too embarrassed to try and watch the rest on iplayer - he was talking about the clothes and dancing styles making people think that we all lived in a 40 year old time warp - and said it's a totally Northern (geographically) thing and nobody would be seen dead dressing like that at the 100 Club.
  11. You're right Steve, the Spencers I think first showed up in 78, they made our 30" bags look like drainpipes. The Mod revival did a lot to wipe out baggies, after that everyone started wearing Mod style retro clothes or what became to be known as casual gear, with some adopting a sportsgear kind of look complete with tennis type headbands!
  12. I just did two though!

  14. Was on Ian Levine's podcast on tuesday night if anyone wants to hear it
  15. Looked up your postage stamp sized book of knowledge to check the other version which you've never heard did you?
  16. Excellent work mate
  17. Sorry I thought you meant hordes of them, yes of course pockets of smartly dressed people were around, I apologise. I remember a guy who never danced, always stood at the back looking at the dancefloor, smoking a pipe...anyone recall him?
  18. So where were they at Wigan then? There was practically nobody dressed like that there in 76, 77 or 78. 79 onwards maybe.
  19. No if we'd have worn straight legs at a time when the rest of the world was wearing baggies, then we'd have been different.
  20. To be honest Glyn a lot of people try that on here as well, but it is very very annoying.
  21. Robin Rice beats George Smith into a cocked hat. Bachelors Savory Rice beats George Smith into a cocked hat.
  22. How can they have an authentic Mecca revival without Levine?
