I can, but they aren't going to be hotly collected: AOT Rhino and Six O Clock
-
I disagree, like someone said Salvadors WD, that is a unique format as it's never been found on a promo before
-
I really liked Tim Brown's book Wigan Casino Years. And Neil Rushton's book. But they are more tailored to record collectors I think.
-
I thought so too.
-
Why Betty Boo, no one of a kind release for it, not a double sider...
-
That probably means it's either a previously unknown demo or stock copy, so that opens it up again to hundreds of double siders, and as Inspirations is one sided, I withdraw my guess
-
Got to be Inspirations I think

Russ I think you're missing the point - a good 50% used to take gear, me included - I'm talking about the book, and half way through it, you'd think everyone did - the emphasis is too heavy. Just my opinion, not trying to rewrite history.
-
I'm not going into denial about drugs. But I just felt it was too much, that's all.
-
I look back on Wigan as being three of the best years of my entire life. Those nights couldn't ever be matched again. I saw some terrible things too, I had a knife put to my throat in a mugging inside the Casino, I saw someone die on the car park to the left of the main doors, I saw someone beaten almost to death in the toilets and carried out on a stretcher, trouble outside, and many times it felt like you were being crushed to death in that queue. But I'd give away all of my possessions to have one night back there,. I'd choose maybe February 1977.
-
I've still not been able to finish the book, I keep going at it but it's just so drugs, drugs, drugs, it wears you out...
-
Hope not, it says it starts Steve Googan
-
Hmmm. No I'd describe it as a Northern Soul Dancer And Rarity but it wouldn't be in my top 1000 classics I don't think. As for Betty Boo, that just came off a master tape didn't it?
-
Yep that was the copy Mike. Didn't know it's been played though. But definitely the same one.
-
Well John's got the date wrong on his site for s start. Polygram handled Chess and so many other labels, that's why Suzie Q is on there, they probably had a Chess Story of Chess Rockabillies to promote, the Cissie Houston is off one of the then current "Mobile Discotheque" series
-
Yep they were dj promo records promoting latest artists / albums. Motown did a few in the UK too.
-
There can only be one reason for not liking it, surely - over familiarity. Otherwise, it's got everything ingredient that makes up the perfect Northern Soul record. Just imagine if you'd never heard it before, you'd jump off the balcony to get on the floor to it. Or kind of hang over the balcony by your fingertips, ask the people below if they've got you and drop 5 feet into a safety net. But then get on the floor!
-
OK I have been thnking, I have an old mate who lives in the States now, originally from round here, about 6 months back he asked me if I'd be interested in selling a nice copy of Margaret Little for him, I just replied that it would be just as easy to do it yourself...spoke no more about it. Except I got a message from him friday saying he was in the UK. Maybe he's bought it over to give to John? Not sure where that fits in with 'rarest original' but it's just a thought.

Me too. Tesco Stourbridge. Thinking, if it was Brazil, would probably play at 33rpm. -

Seeing a copy of Long John Baldry - The Drifter (UA) for sale today, reminded me, 18 months ago I sold the only copy - a one sided Pye acetate - of another version of the song, by Stuart Smith. It's a good version, not as good as Ray Pollard, obviously, but at least as good as or better than the Don Charles version. Anyway when I sold it, I told the buyer I wouldn't make any dubs for anyone else, I think I may have recorded three quarters of it on a podcast but never the whole version. I did a carver for myself. The thing is, what a shame that a record that could have been enjoyed by an awful lot of people will never be heard. I could play it out if I dj'd, but I don't. I wonder how many records there are like this, which nobody will ever get to hear played out, that people don't even know exist...I'd guess at hundreds.
