  1. No they didn't Kev, the white OOTP's came after, look at the number sequence for goodness sake, and the fact that some of the last ones are rarely seen, the shooting star label was first, the clue is that the first one is number 001.
  2. Kev, Lynne Randell booted on the Torch's Out Of The Past label, first series not second white label series so 1972/73
  3. Yeah no doubt, every now and then an oldie would come from nowhere and take off again (You Lie So Well, Touch Of Velvet etc)
  4. Never heard that at Wigan, first heard at the Lafayette played by Pep - 1978
  5. Was always played as a big oldie but never heard it in the main room on a proper saturday night. I have a distinct memory of my friends Gill, Andrea and Karen dancing in unison to this at an oldies night, great dancers.
  6. That is very true. I remember buying a John Andrews Parlophone demo off him for £20, sold it for £25, ended up in Spain...this was only in the mid 90's as well. Also had bros Grimm demo off him when it was barely known, Linda lewis, loads - top British collector.
  7. Andre Brasseur may well have been played a as new releases in the 60's. Samantha Jones definitely pre Wigan but revived at Wigan with the occasional play from Richard, Russ, Alan, mainly 1977.
  8. No that was something else I ordered and he sent me someone elses record - Chris Cerf aka len Barry b/w The Fabulettes aka Barbara Mills, we had no idea about either of them and again, Wigan didn't get them for a few weeks. I sent that back I think...
  9. Thinking back, I had Lost Summer Love before it was played at Wigan, I ordered a 4 track emisidsc off JM and when it came, Down In The Dumps was missing and Lost Summer Love was on there, nobody had heard it round our way and I had to ring him and ask him what it was all about!
  10. Marie Knight was Alan Rhodes Joey Heatherton - Richard Lynne Randell was already known from The Torch Shane Martin probably pre dated Wigan via local clubs Paula Durante was Richard Lorraine Silver was discovered at St Ives and Wigan didn't get it for a long time afterwards
  11. Oh yes what a great record that is as well! Backing track is from my all time favourite rocksteady tune as well (You Don't Care)
  12. Yeah I was a bit surprised to be honest, it got loads of likes on Mixcloud, just had to get away from the constant soul / reggae for a bit
  13. On August 2nd, 1974 I bought a book that was to have major influence on my life. Well my musical life anyway. I know the date is correct because I still have the book ans the date is written inside. It was called Rock File 2 and basically it catalogued singles which charted between the years of 1970 to 1973. Great. But it also had an article that caught my eye; being the only person into Reggae in my entire school, it was very hard to learn about the music and find new stuff, especially when you're only 13-14. I had a few Trojan compilations and singles, and there was a program on BRMB Radio on a sunday, but that was about it really. Anyway the article was written by Carl Gayle (a regular contributor to Black Music magazine) and was entitled Are You Ready For Rude And Rough Reggae? (inspiring people to dig deeper than Judge Dread and his "Big" records); it was divided into subsections: "The Real Thing " (a comparison of ethnic Reggae with string laden chart 45's); "Watch This Sound" (a brief history of Ska, Rocksteady and Reggae plus the story of the Sound Systems); "Dub Wise Skank - Talkover" (dealing with the DJ phenomenon of U-Roy, Big Youth etc), and finally "Rude Reggae (a look at some of the lesser known rude Reggae 45's). Now I made up my mind that I was going to find and listen to every record mentioned in these articles. Liquidator and Israelites were obviously a piece of cake, but "Kill Me Dead"? "Aldina"? "Everybody Rude Now"? Of course I did accomplish the task in the end but it took 30 years or so! These podcasts document that article which had such an influence 40 years ago, there are two parts, the running order is pretty random to mix it up a bit and I know that you will know most of these records, but just imagine what it was like hearing them for the first time ever! 14. In 1979 I bought Sam's "Call Me Tomorrow" (Major Harris) off him for £18 after begging him for weeks to flog it me, lost it at one of the Stafford alldayers!
  15. I've got a weird Motown record, it's a French EP of Martha & The Vandellas, except it's a white label solid centre test pressing of just one of the sides. I had a few of these, only got the one now.
  16. The comment was really aimed at those who would play out one side of a record but not play the other for fear of offending - who exactly? Step back and look at how ridiculous this whole argument is - if it's the first time on a 7" in the UK, f*cking play it.
  17. You'd lose a massive chunk of classic records if you were to only play non-hit artists, there'd be no Billy Joe Royal, Dusty Springfield, Wilson Pickett, Lynne Randell, even people with big Northern records like HB Barnum had hits...
  18. I put all 4 on Amazon. I got £50 for one of them. £20 for another, £15 for another and I still have one.
  19. Still got a couple of Greenlights - one has Little Anthony Gonna Fix You Good..
  20. Nobody can possibly know everything that's been on ebay. I was on it in 1999, hardly anyone else was, who can remember what was going through at that time, I can't, apart from the obvious memorable ones (for me) like Vickie Baines etc
  21. Been on the pop Dazz? It's worth about £10. I think there's one from the 90's on a blue Verve issue, thats 10 times rarer than Soul World.
  22. Still worth about £80 then.
  23. Embellished your answer
  24. DH is generally UK, all old US lists used to have it as BB Hole
