  1. Sold mine today for £50. I was never going to play them. More or less what I paid for it so not being greedy.
  2. Well if a record gets into the charts, it's a pop record, whether it's a soul record or a reggae record, if it's a hit, it becomes pop - but it's undeniably a soul record, like Israelites is clssic early reggae but gets called a pop record. I know what I"m talking about if nobody else does. Northern is meant to be underground - which is why you would rarely hear a million seller like 123 out.
  3. Theres the rub as they say: "123" is pop, but if it hadn't charted and only sold a few copies, it would be "northern soul". If you see what I mean. The actual sound is 100% northern.
  4. I agree with that but am just saying that these were not around to buy at the time, if they were there you must have either had to be in the know or you bought durectly off John, I never saw it in a shop or an advert - if you think about it, it was massive until it came out on Grapevine so if it had been pressed for all and sundry before Grapevine, it would have been dropped for sure
  5. Yes but why issue it on Satirion and kill the sales potential of the Grapevine one? Especially when you part own the label.
  6. No you might well be right Grant but they were not made available to Joe Public if they were, I actually didn't see this until the 80's on that yellow label and I swear to you I was buying or at least seeing everything that got pressed from maybe 1975 to 1980 in Peps shop
  7. Not many I wouldn't have thought. Was just saying to Scal - dj's were playing this off emidiscs, not off Satiron copies, then it came out on Grapevine, then the "import" copies appeared, well after.
  8. It's not really a boot, it was pressed up by Soul Bowl from the original tapes, but it never had an official 'original' 60's release
  9. Yep, this, The Mighty Dodos and the (fake) Skatalites, all on blue Spark, all worth about a fiver apiece until someone says they are rare

  11. Incredible. Had loads of these, used to sell them for £4 a time. That's about all I'd pay for one now.
  12. His version of You Baby is a cracker as well
  13. He's an excellent blue eyed soul singer with a great production team behind him
  14. Hollywood Persuaders - Hollywood a go go Don't pretend instrumental
  15. Probably a drug thing on my behalf, nobody wanted to be seen on camera with eyes like saucers in case our parents saw it which is why so many people were sat not around the edge of the floor like usual, but back against the walls, in the shadows
  16. Fading memories Dave, it was filmed on two consecutive weekends and the lights were on until at least 3am both times, to huge cheers when they went off.
  17. I threw a Discotron away a few months ago, was sick of seeing it in the garage, it was a wooden outer and what made it unusual was that it had a radio built in as well. I took it apart once, there's just nothing in there. They were made in Birmingham and took one of those huge square batteries.
  18. Mine's got the worst damage I've ever seen at the start of a record, the first groove that actually plays is the first note of the actual instrumental after the talking and dog barking, so at least it can just about be cued in
  19. Sufferer is one of the most important records in my life, when I was 9 there was an older kid over the road called Brian Smith and for some reason he gave me this record because he knew I liked Isarelites and the reggae tunes that were charting at the time, I was only 9 but it was the first reggae record I ever owned and unbelievably, I still have the same copy, it's got writing all over it, tear on the label, even some silver paint on it but I'd never sell it...to have had a record for 45 years.. I just played this and there's barely a noise on the record, both sides!
  20. Very expensive on Big Shot seeing as how it came out on Crab It's also on one of the Pama compilations. I sold my copy of this, but I've still got the instrumental version "Sic Him Rover" on a Jamaican blank.

  22. Where was it being sent to?
  23. Karl, mate you have to sort that photo out, it's doing my head in looking sideways all the time
