Who Is Behind All These Reissues? Please Tell Me So I Can Shove
Pete S replied to dthedrug's topic in All About the SOUL
We did mainly 45's, Shadowman EP, Thats A Promise 45, several Italian colour vinyl ones came from us, I used to have the most fantastic sources back then, never manufactured anything as never had the money but was able to supply loads of first generation tapes. I am going back a long time now though, peaked around 1986 I'd say. I used to run a Bowie magazine just dealing with the underground stuff, someone lent me a full set recently and I can't believe what I knew and what I had back then. My ex wife got everything. -

Just to expand upon this. Back in the old days, if someone had an original it would be admired, but if I'd got the same record as a bootleg, I wouldn't have the p*sss ripped out of me or told I couldn't play it. If I went somewhere today with a box of pressings, I'd be shunned by the collectors of original records, not because of who I am, but because of what I'm carrying...yet if I had them all on original, I'd be invited to chat and become a member of the top people's club. I don't like this elitism and never have. Outasite records - I've had nost of those on original, I sold the original and now have Outasite copies, so what? Does that make me inferior to everyone else now? -

What I'm trying to say is, you say we should be going out here there and everywhere - I've done all that, I did it from the age of 15 upwards, I'm approaching my 54th birthday and I don't want to go out all night, listen to loud music and take drugs, I want to play with my kids, watch Match Of The Day and drink beer! It's a young man's game. I don't mean to insult anyone by saying they should grow up but seriously, 50+ years old people taking speed on a weekly basis, come on... -

OK well I can tell you from 1st hand experience that - and I'm talking vinyl here not cd's - up until the cd age, Bowie vinyl bootlegs were done in quantities of 100 to 1000 on a first run, then they would be done as and when required. The majority had runs of less than 500 copies. I supplied tapes for at least half a dozen and none were done in quantities of more than 500. I even sat and hand numbered certain ones! -

There are also people with families to look after who spent half their life already going to places like this and it's time to give it a rest and grow up. -

Oh my goodness how many times do I have to answer this question? A CD or MP3 is NOT a record. That's all there is to it. I want to play a record, not a cd or an mp3, a touchable, vinyl record that you can go through the process of removing from it's sleeve, wiping it on your jumper, placing it on the turntable, putting the needle on the edge of the record, anticipating the music to come, and then enjoying it for 2.30 seconds. I get nothing from clicking a button on a computer.- 153 comments

Who Is Behind All These Reissues? Please Tell Me So I Can Shove

I can't really answer for him but I think Dave may have accidentally picked on the wrong record mistaking it for one of these cut to order things that litter ebay nowadays. -
Most of 'em are available as instrumentals!
-
What was it like, have got it ready to watch
-
It was early 90's yes Chalky. It also fooled a couple of people. You can actually hear where the original is being dubbed, a little surface noise just before it start. Hold to the light, it's a reddy brown colour. The one from the last few years has a datestamp and different label lay out and I would presume u=is still being manufactured and is therefore worthless.
-
Ronnie & Robyn is great, not as good as the inst but still great. Breakaway Steve Karmen inst better than the vocal. Bari Track definitely better than the vocal but the vocal is still a great record. Would like to hear an instrumental version of The Carstairs.

Hucknall never went to the Casino, he said just that on camera on the OGWT feature, "I never went to a Casino allnighter", anyway he can be seen pogoing at the Electric Circus on a famous clip of The Clash in 77 all punked up.
-
In fairness to Wayne Hemmingway, he's been into it for ages and I can remember selling him a copy of Ann Sexton ages ago. I doubt about the 13 years old at Wigan though.
-
This is true. I reported it. I was there. It did happen.
-
It was one of those that was pressed to quickly before it really had a chance to go huge.
-
Tony I'm not sure there is a white label boot - definitely pale blue and pale green
-
Light green as well.
-
The problem is (in my opinion, obviously) those price tweaks aren't enough to convince people to buy. For instance if you did Gloria Jones at 125, Tony Diamond 125, V Satins 200, Dee Irwin 100 etc, you'd sell em instantly. Well maybe not Dee Irwin, good as it is.

I was thinking I might be mistaken so I just played it. I still like it. I like the original as well. -

Oh no! It's a FANTASTIC record. Brilliant to dance to and used to sound great at Wigan. Not sure if it's an offers sort of thing though, lots of copies around in the UK. But a great memory jerker. -
It is seriously hard work mate, I have this problem every single week of every single year - getting people to buy stuff.
-
Having been into the music for over 40 years I can look back and seriously say that the only stuff I don't or didn't like was Modern Soul and Crossover (late 70's onwards, I liked the 74-77 new releases), that leaves me with up to 100,000 tracks I can and have enjoyed, it's always gone through phases, if you think now is the best then that's great but I can assure you I do listen to newies whenever prompted and I've not heard anything in a long time that compares to the stuff you say I should have left behind. Is this really the most magical period?
-
Yeah it got into the low 30's I think, these days it would have gone to number 1 with those kind of sales
